4.1 One of my favorite beers!! Pours a dark Amber color. Aroma is filled with pine and grass notes. Taste starts with spicy flavors of the rye malt with a finish of pine and hops. The hops and rye malt compliment each other perfectly. A great classic!!
3.8 On tap at Vastarannan Kiiski, Helsinki. Pours almost clear deep golden with a small white head. Aroma of marmelade, citrussy deep hops. Moderate sweet taste initially , powerful yet balanced hoppy attack at the Finnish....
4.0 Bottle. Bought Aug 2012; BBE undated; Drank Dec 2012 - BCA; lots of floaties. Reddish Brown in colour. Hoppy; piney and floral hops. Fruity, citrus fruity; grapefruit and orange. Malty; toasty malts; caramel, rye malt. Nice hop/fruit/malt/spicy balance. Hops relatively mellowed; probably because bottle not fresh. Bittersweet citrus hoppy malty throughout; becoming earthy and spicy (the rye?). Increasingly bitter finish. Enjoyed this. Nice Rye DIPA! (2012-12-09)
4.0 Slightly hazy deep amber with light brown head. Lots of malty aroma of bread and caramel and toffee plus some grassy hop aroma. Smells delicious. Really nice taste as well. Both lots of malt (lightly toasted toast) and lots of hop flavor (grassy and maybe even some rosemary notes). Not too sweet and not too bitter and a little acidic. Fine balance. Medium/full body.
3.7 650ml bottle. Aroma is spicy, little coffee, some caramel. Flavour plenty of spicy cardamom from the rye, some vanilla, some bitter orange, a little coffee. Quite nice.
3.7 Sweet malty forefront with a nice spiced rye finish. Bitterness rounds the taste out nicely.
3.3 BB backlog, Bottle, pours hazy golden with a medium to large top. Aroma of grapefruit hops, citrus, pine, white pepper, ash, spicy rye and a little bit of malt. . Medium to heavier mouthfeel with a decent bitterness/dryness in the close. Alright
4.0 Poured from a 22 oz bottle into a tulip. Reddish brown, slightly hazy, with a thick tan head that laces beautifully. Citrusy hop aroma with malt base. Taste starts with malts and then the hops come through with a nice bitter, followed by spiciness of the rye. Full body, thick and almost creamy on the palate. Dry, bitter finish.
3.9 Bottle at home. Aroma is thick rye malt, hops, pine resin, ripe fruits, caramel, soft herbal/spicy notes, hint of toffee. Flavour is moderate to medium sweet and bitter. Body is above medium, nice thickness and balance. A prime specimen of rye IPA, bittersweet and rich with a sturdy rye body.
3.8 Cerveja com amargor extremamente elevado com leve percepção do álcool. O aroma é simples e podia ser melhor trabalhado, mas o paladar compensa.
4.1 1/2 pint on tap @ Oljenkorsi. Pours slightly cloudy amber with a medium creamy head. Aroma is sweet malts, pine, some fruits and alcohol. Flavor is sweet malts, pine, rye, fruits, alcohol and loads of hops. Creamy palate. Very nice.
3.8 Bottle from beergium. Color is dark copper. Thin beige head. Taste is medium bitterness, light sweetness. Medium dry body. Finish is long. Aroma is herby, spicy, hoppy, fruity, malty, nutty, chocolaty. Pretty good.
3.8 Very old bottle, maybe 2011. Cloudy dark brown with thick sediment. Caramel, chocolate, coffee, resin, alcohol. Heavy bitter and medium sweet. Low carbonation, probably some lost in cellaring. Long, spicy and bitter finish. Reminds me of mud cake. This is a big, big beer.
3.3 Tap at Stouts Pub. Deep orange with minimal head. Very floral, toffee, rye and hay. Caramel with a spicy, floral bitter finish. Medium body with a soapy feel.
3.9 Tap on a snifter glass at World of Beer St. Paul. Color is a copper variation with a pleasant white head and assertive lacing. Nose is mostly malt and caramel with a little bit of hip presence. Taste has a healthy bitterness but offset with a malty, cereal chewy characteristic that works as a nice balance. Feels like a bready, spicy beer with enough hoppy qualities to keep it from an uncalled unbalanced amber offering. Definitely feels heavier than other Beat Republic efforts but still enjoyable. This one is a good representation of a rye.
4.0 Poured from the bomber, it’s a chunky brown with orange highlights. Taste is sweet boozy hops, some citrus, I’m thinking rye (cause I don’t really recognize the flavor), not so dry at the end, nice change of pace beer.
3.3 12 oz bottle shared by ebone1988. The pour is a dark brown color with a thinner white head that falls to a thick collar. The aroma is interesting. There is a lot of citrus to it while maintaining a light spiciness. The hops aren’t bright, but rather relaxed and offering light influences. The rye adds a hint of spice, but doesn’t do a whole lot. The flavor is way bigger on the rye. Lots of spicy grain and a resounding bitterness. It’s really interesting. The hops just offer a heavy bitter and the rye dominates. It’s almost one dimensional. There is a maltiness as well that I’m not digging. The mouth feel is lighter and decently carbed with a lingeringly spicy rye finish. It’s dry as fuck. It’s interesting.
3.5 Bottle shared with koleminer20. For the book. Aroma is rye, earthy hops, malt, rye heavy. Appearance is red, copper, off white/light tan head, hazy. Taste is rye, grainy, earthy hops, dirt. Mouthfeel is light to medium body, light carbonation, dirt grainy aftertaste. Overall, this one is pretty good.
3.7 Bottle, pours amber with an off white head. Lots of rye in the nose (like!), with a weedy and grassy hops. Taste has a lot of spicy rye, caramel. Medium sweet with a good complementing bitterness, but I’m missing hops really. I suppose it’s an old bottle, but as so often on US bottles there’s no trace of a bottling or best before date anywhere. I still like the rye though...
3.9 Pours hazy dark red amber with low white head Aromas of caramel, dark fruits, hoppyness from tropical fruits, resin Taste has hoppy notes of tropical fruits, caramel, resin, hints of dark fruits, hints of pine Mouthfeel is full bodied, medium carbonation, long bitter finish
3.8 Bottle from Stone in Asagaya. Pours a slightly hazy copper with a finger of head that lingers. Big punchy citrus flavors with orange and grapefruit dominating and little bit of lemon and caramel in the background. Well-balanced on the palate with the caramel notes standing up to the hop flavors. Some honey and marmalade more grapefruit and touch of lemon. Finishes fairly well-balanced with good bitterness, maltiness and a touch of peppery rye notes at the end. Very nice.
4.0 Pours a murky brown with a foamy off-white head. Aroma is lots of spicy rye, pine and floral hops, and some malts. Flavor is spicy rye and caramel. Has a high bitterness and a smooth body. Very enjoyable. As the last rated wrote, I am a bit surprised to see this categorized as an IPA, but regardless if is an excellent beer.
3.7 Draught at St. Augustine’s, Vancouver; 414m Dark amber color, cloudy. Solid beer, the moderate residual sweetness ties together the malts and the spicy rye, and the resiny hops. The final is a bit earthy, expected with the rye. I wouldn’t categorize this as IIPA, it’s a bit sturdy.
3.9 On tap at St. Augustine’s. Hazy golden amber, white head. Aroma is caramel, tropical fruits, some berries. Taste is sweetish, berries, hoppy bitterness. Piney bitterness aftertaste.
4.0 Dark caramel with medium carbonation and a spicy floral aroma. Piney hops taste trailed by a good bitter rye finish. Well crafted.
4.0 Flarra Ölbaren Växjö. Mycket Rye Malt doft.
3.7 Bottle at home. Clear dark amber pour with a thin beige head. Smells like caramel, resin, grapefruit and chili peppers. Tastes like grapefruit, red peppers, spices, brown sugar. Medium bodied with medium carbonation and a smooth mouthfeel.
