Bear Republic Racer X

Bear Republic Racer X

Racer X® is an uncommon Double India Pale Ale which puts a California twist on English brewing traditions by adding an assertive hop aroma and bitterness that compliments the firm malt backbone. Like its little brother Racer 5, Racer X® is balance in a bottle.

3.4 On tap at Hopcat A2. Pours a clear earthy orange with a white head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has strong pine with a bit of citrus and an earthy grain and biscuit backbone. Flavor has earthy pine and grass notes backed by earthy biscuit.
3.2 Fairly classic DIPA in look and nose, dank, medium orange, thin white head, very resiny and bitter. Pine, weed, simple syrup. Tastes far boozier than 8.3, I think to its detriment. Overall effect is unbalanced, a bit soapy and astringent, too sweet/boozy to be wierdly cloying despite all the bitterness. It?s not bad, but a rare miss by Bear Republic IMHO.
4.0 Poured from a bottle into a tulip. Color is a brilliant orange, slightly hazy and with a white frothy head that laces the glass excessively. Taste is nicely bitter, but not as intense as other DIPA’s. Sticky, average carbonation, and with a dry finish. Nicely done!
3.8 Slightly hazy amber beer with off white head. Sweet malty aroma of bread and lots of ripe fruits and some alcohol. Really delicious aroma. The taste is sweet with lots of ripe fruit and caramel notes and a quite bitter finish. Full body.
4.0 On cask at The Pony Bar - 10th Ave. Hazy copper body with big head. Nose is hops and fruits and citrus. Taste again of lots of fruits. Quite nice. Alcy in the finish. Bitter in the finish.
3.8 650ml bottle from the Malt Shoppe in Tosa. No bottle date, but don’t believe that was there a month ago or would have picked it up then. Pours an amber orange with an off-white head leaving some nice coats of lace. Aroma has sweet tangy fruits, pine, some sweet malts and citrus. Taste is of sweet toffee, spruce-y pine, chewy resin, tangerines, some other citrusy fruit and honey. Fuller than medium bodied, the blend is solid and there is somewhat of an alcohol presence. Finishes tangy and to the honey sweet side of bittersweet. A white whale over the years that never seemed to get to the Midwest, or was missed whenever it did. More an old style DIPA than anything extreme. Just a solid tasty drinker, with a good blend of flavors, smoothed out with the honey. 14.1
3.5 Pours a hazy, dirty orange. Aroma is pleasing enough, sweet malt and booze. Taste is prominent booze, strong bitter, soapy!, I like bitter, but this is a bit much.
3.8 16 oz pour on draft at Spacebar. Mostly clear golden orange with off-white head. Aromas of citrus, floral, malt. Tastes of citrus, floral, malt, citrus peel. Medium body with a dry finish.
3.9 Draft at Bru Craft. Hazy orange copper pour that started with a thick tan head that reduced to soapy foam. Huge syrupy Imperial IPA loaded with tropical citrus flavors. Mango. Guava. Tangerine. Apricot. Passionfruit. Pineapple cores. Raw sugar cane. Eucalyptus. Lemongrass. Pinecones. Alcoholic finish. Feels much bigger than the listed 8.3% ABV. Extraordinary explosion of flavors but ultimately feels a bit too harshly sweet and bitter.
4.3 22 ounce bottle into tulip glass, best before 1/22/2017. Pours slightly hazy deep orange/light copper color with a 2 finger dense and rocky off white head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Dense dense soapy lacing clings around the glass. Nice dense soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a light amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of huge grapefruit, tangerine, peach, apricot, pineapple, mango, melon, lemon/orange peel, pine, caramel, brown sugar, toasted biscuit, light toffee/nuttiness, and floral/grassy earthiness. Incredible aromas with fantastic complexity and balance of juicy citrus/tropical/pine hops, fruity yeast, and moderate dark/bready malt sweetness; with great strength. Taste of huge grapefruit, tangerine, peach, apricot, pineapple, mango, melon, lemon/orange peel, pine, caramel ,brown sugar, toasted biscuit, light toffee/nuttiness, and floral/grassy earthiness. Moderate pine/grassy/citrus peel bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of grapefruit, tangerine, peach, apricot, pineapple, mango, melon, lemon/orange rind, pine, caramel, brown sugar, toasted biscuit, light toffee/nuttiness, and floral/grassy earthiness. Incredible complexity, robustness, and balance of juicy citrus/tropical/pine hops, fruity yeast, and moderate dark/bready malt sweetness; with a great malt/bitterness balance, and zero lingering hop astringency after the finish. Light-moderate dryness from bitterness, increasing through the glass. Medium carbonation and medium-full body; with a very smooth, creamy/bready, sticky/resinous, and lightly slick/syrupy balanced mouthfeel that is awesome. Minimal warming alcohol for 8.3%. Overall this is an incredible DIPA! All around fantastic complexity, robustness, and balance of juicy citrus/tropical/pine hops, fruity yeast, and moderate dark/bready malt sweetness; very smooth and easy to drink for the ABV. Seems to be American hops and English malts; and comes off as a amazing hybrid of American and English IPA styles. Has a good sized malt profile, but is never overly sweet. Enormous amounts of juicy flavors from the combination of hops and yeast notes. A highly enjoyable offering.
3.8 Pours cloudy copper amber with low white head. Aroma of pine, citrus, orange, mild resin. Taste is medium to rich bitter with a mild fruit sweet finish, light lingering bitterness. Body is light and smooth with soft carbonation.
4.1 Tasted from bottle. Plus a beautiful orange amber with thick rocky white head. Aroma is orange peel, grapefruit, floral and caramel. Taste is well balanced with a nice moderate bitterness balanced with the malt backbone. Flavors of pine, floral, citrus fruit, caramel, earthy and some herbal notes. Very nice imperial IPA.
4.0 Unclear, amber colored, medium off white frothy head, nice lacing and good lasting. Aroma is of some malt and light caramel, medium+ hoppy pellety aroma of citrus and floral pine. Taste is medium+ sweet caramalt, medium+ hoppy aroma, pellety, citrus grapefruit, pine, floral, some tropical notes, medium bitterness, dry finish. Medium to full bodied, soft carbonation, resiny. Wonderful!
3.8 Pours a deep dark orangish amber color. Aromas of big hop action, sweet malts, and more hops. Flavor has some caramel malty tastes with nice grapefruit and floral hop taste.
4.0 Bottle. Moderate roasted and caramel for the malt, heavy pine and orange peel for the hops, light soap for the yeast, with date, brown sugar and honey in the background. Head is average size, frothy, off-white with slippery lacing and good legs, and is mostly diminishing. Color is murky amber. Flavor starts lightly to moderately sweet and lightly acidic, then finishes lightly sweet and moderately bitter. Palate is medium to full, oily with a lively carbonation and a lightly astringent and alcoholic finish. A nice smooth DIPA with perfect balance.
3.4 Pours a slightly hazy copper from a bottle, white head, lots of lacing. Aroma of grapefruit, some pine. Flavor is more like lemon soap, kind of pine-sol-y. Some malt sweetness. Well-balanced, but not liking the soapiness. Good beer though.
3.9 Bottle from Safeway in Redwood City, CA. Aroma is orange bitters, citrus peels, vegetal hops, pine, earthy wetness (mossy). Taste comes across very vegetal hops with orange bitters / marmalade (mix of sweet and bitter) with a bitter, earthy finish.
3.7 2012 bottle rescued from the trailer cellar. Clear amber color with ivory head. Big floral, fruity, herbal hoppy aromas. Smooth mouthfeel. Tangy citrus, light pit fruit flavors with pine, herbal hoppage, and a sweet maltage to balance---drying finish____tasty.
4.1 big pine hop with some grapefruit and a bit of rubbing alcohol. some caramel and stronger malt backbone. full carbonation at once soft and harsh.
4.7 Awesome hop arms form a copper pour with white head. Biscuit malts and fresh pine flavor with some hoppy dried fruit balance. Slight alcohol army’s excellent beer.
4.0 Pours a medium coppery amber with a one finger off-white head with good retention and lacing. Aroma of grapefruit, citrus and light pine hops and bready malt. Flavor follows with remarkably well integrated malt, citrus and citrus hops. Finishes with citrus rind and herbal hops. While not quite as intense hops as many Western IIPAs, the flavors are so well balanced that this is a pleasure to drink. Medium bodied with a pleasant creaminess.
3.8 Bottle, perhaps a bit old. Cloudy orange gold, light tan head. Resinous, tangy deep citrus, orange, light ethanol, deeper biscuit notes. Decently tangy, bitter, strong biscuity malt backbone. Lightly oily, medium body, decent amount of acidity. Medium finish. Well balanced, good.
3.7 650ml bottle from Whole Foods - Tribeca, New York. Best By 02/24/15 :/ Hazy orange colour with a big white head. Caramel, sweetness, spruce, fruits, dry bitterness.. Still good so fresh one would be great I guess.
4.4 Flarra. Doft kraftig av Apelsin å blommor fräsch. Smaken lite barr , apelsin, äpple å lite trä. Smaken är extremt balanserad . Härrejävlar KÖP Å snälla svenska microbryggeri lär lär å brygg dessa kvalitets öl. Snälla dyrt jaga amerikanska Dipa. Vill köpa svenskt nångång.
4.2 Flaska. Salt o hav, gödsel o sötma i doften. Smaken bred o balanserad. 3d smak torkad frukt o malt samt en finfin beska. Det här är en riktig BRA öl!!!
3.9 This beer a deep hazy golden with a touch of copper and a fluffy rich head. The aroma is less intense than I thought but yet still full of citrus, pine resin, bitter rind and a whiff of sweet malt. On the palate it's a huge blast of bitter hop goodness. The 8.3 ABV is virtually non-existent amongst the hop layers and light caramel malts.
3.8 This is a hop bomb. Poured from a bomber. Big pine/resin hop character, caramel, soft bready malt.
3.9 22 oz bottle. Tasted on 3/4/15. Bottle from LoneStar Liquor. Aroma has caramel, pine & resin. Taste is smooth & balanced with a very nice overall flavor.
