Beavertown Bloody 'Ell (2013-2018)

Beavertown Bloody 'Ell (2013-2018)

Bloody ‘Ell – We have never brewed a straight IPA at Beavertown, why change the habit of a lifetime! Here we take a stripped back IPA malt bill and highly hop it with the tropics of Amarillo and Citra and pile head on with kilos of Blood Orange zest and juice late in the boil, bringing you a smack of citrus and hints of warm orange aromas. One of our favourite and most popular seasonal brews. We will be canning Bloody ‘Ell too from February until the bloody oranges run dry!

3.4 Can. Blood orange an grass in the aroma. Citrus peel. Malty yet dry Hoppy flavor. Grass And blood orange. Slightly herbal, especially in the dry finish. Nice.
3.2 Pours a clear, light gold, straw coloration with a medium, fizzy head. Smells of cat piss. with a hint of blood orange. Taste is quite hoppy, with hints of biscuity, caramel malt. As you might expect, this is dominated by citrus notes of grapefruit, blood orange and tangerine, with a very subtle dankness in the background as well. Finishes with a dry, medium bitterness and light citrus acidity. Light/medium body with medium carbonation. Surprisingly light body for the ABV, awful nose, but decent flavour profile. Still, after the last two IPAs I had by them, I'm starting to wonder if Beavertown shouldn't stick to Stouts and Porters, even though their Black IPA is excellent.
3.8 F: big, white, good retention. C: gold, clear. A: mellow tropical fruity, orange, mango, pineapple, tangerine. T: mango, orange, pineapple, tangerine, bit grapefruits, touch red fruits, medium body and carbonation, nice one, enjoyed, sample from tap @ Tilquin English Beer Festival 2018.
3.7 A hazy golden appearance with a 1 finger white head. A very sweet nose, orange and blood orange comes through, although slightly reserved. Bitterness is not quite as intense as I expected. Nice, but I wonder if the higher abv is worth it...
3.7 Very tasty citrus orange IPA, it's fruity and zesty all the way. Actually the fresh orange really stands out at the end, much more than with other IPAs. Not very bitter at all, but one for the breakfast starters, AH!
3.7 Tap at CBF Wien 5/18. Perfumy, zesty nice. Light sweetness, a bit tart, a bit bitter. Slick. Nice stuff smells, tastes, feels great.
3.1 From a can. Pours dark orange brown, clear, white head. Juicy, orange, bitter sweet, malt in there and plenty of booze. Think I’m in the minority here but I wasn’t overwhelmed, the Amarillo (I think) was overpowering to the point of it tasting slickly.
4.0 Tottenham's finest. Awesome brewery from my home. North east london. Infuenced by many american style beers with and english twist. Pukka
3.8 Sampled @ Tilquin English Beer Festival 2018. A slightly hazy golden beer with a small white head. Aroma of orange fruits, soft bitter grapefruit. Taste of citrusy bitter hops orange fruits, blood orange, long bitter finish.
3.5 Sampled from a can from Prohibition Wines. New batch from 16/4/2016. Hazy golden colour with a white head. Aroma of pine and orange. Rich malty taste, with tons of orange and a powerfully bitter pine and grapefruit skin flavour. Good, full mouthfeel. Powerful with big flavours.
3.2 Aroma a naranja al principio. No sorprende en sabor. Aspecto cobrizo. Espuma poco presente. Regusto amargo, nada especial
3.9 Tap @Stoneworks,Peterborough. Golden, slightly hazy, streams of bubbles. Nose - strong citrus,a bit of pine. Taste - mellow, follows the nose. Oily.
3.7 It’s got as much citrus orange on the nose as you would expect from the name and description. Pours slightly hazy orange gold, tastes...vaguely good for you.
3.5 Tap at the Overdraught. Pours golden yellow with white foam top. Aroma is pale malts and citric hops. Taste is juicy sweet to bitter in the medium range. Palate is medium bodied, sticky feel, average to soft carbonation, bitter finish. Maybe I will take my blood oranges this way in future.
5.0 Superb stuff from Beavertown!.Orangey caramel citrusy tropical flavours bounce off the tongue!.One of my favourite IPAs.
3.3 Pours yellow with a small head, aroma of fruits, caramel, toffee, orange, flavor of orange, caramel, toffee, medium bodied
3.9 Great citrus aroma with subtle bitter finish considering the abv. Pours pale cloudy with nice white head.
4.1 Grapefruit, blood orange, and all that good fruity stuff. Nominally an IPA but it’s not the run-of-the-mill variety. The difference is rather like that of factory-farmed vs organically grown poetry. This is marmalade in rum and hops, lemon in caramel, and teeth like squares of paper towels, hands like burr grinders, spinning out of place, slicing not crushing, like if we held close tightly enough, tonight would forget itself. We could keep walking into each other on off days far apart on out-of-sync schedules. 25 would come and go before we stop singing, spraying foam into the air thick with sweat and gridlocked taxi lights. A tasty IPA from a consistently impressive brewery.
2.5 Not as nice as other Beavertown IPAs. Vague taste of blood orange. Very little in the way of citrus. Hoppy, mild
3.4 Draft @ Kompaan. Pours an unclear golden beer with a thin white head on top. Aroma has some wheaty notes, some caramel malts, light citrus with blood oranges certainly in there. Flavor is a bit weak compared to the aroma. Almost no blood oranges in there, little bitterness and mostly just a malty backbone covering the rest of the palate. Seems a bit old to me, would love to try one fresh. Carbonation is ok, aftertaste is light bitter. Could be way better!!
4.0 Can, 33cL. 7.2%. Home. Purchase ("Le Houblon", @Poitiers, FR). A golden clear beer with a medium white foamy head ; medium retention ; lacing ok. Fruits+ (tropical fruits, citrus), resin, light herb. Medium dry bitter refreshing, light spicy, light warming atmosphere, light to medium sweet. Medium good body, light to medium oily texture, average carbonation, fruity resinous dry lasting finish. Overall, great one !
5.0 Delicious bitter IPA. Strong bitter fruit peel flavour.
3.4 can dorata leggermente velats buona schiuma discreta persistenza agrume succo buona secchezza filo vegetale amaro medio non incisivo
3.4 White fluffy head stayed on a hazy lemon coloured, effervescent body. Minimal aroma. Medium bodied & sharp. Sweet orange, sweet citrus & a bitter hoppy finish.
3.4 Another good one from these guys. Light malt - a little heavier than neck oil - with lots of citrus and tropical fruit from the amarillo and citra and plenty of sour and flat notes from the blood orange. Quite thirst quenching.
4.2 02.04.2015, tap @ Man in the Moon: Nice creamy mediumlasting head. Aroma is slightly sweet grassy, wet grass, grapefruit, wet hops, orange, light malts, moss, lawn, leafs, hop pellets, citrus peel, pine needles. Taste is slightly concentrated grassy, moss, minerals, leafs, fresh hops, lawn, pine needles, light malts, citrus peel, pine needles, bark. Medium to longlasting bitterness, slightly dry grassy mouthfeel. Nice.
4.2 Hazy gold poured from a can. Strong citrus and resin aroma. Fruity, orangey, dank flavours. Quite high bitterness but more watery than I expected.
3.8 330ml from can bought at Oddbins. Yellow clear colour, nice hoppy aroma, tropical and citrusy flavour. Overall a good beer, but not a remarkable one
3.5 Strong notes of citrus, resin, golden with a good white head, light body, medium carbonation, not very intense, just a bit of citrus and the only the bitter final...obviously not bad but not very intense and balanced.
