Beavertown Holy Cowbell India Stout

Beavertown Holy Cowbell India Stout

COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The Bollywood of beers. We wanted to build a recipe which really pushed the love affair between dark malts and hops. So we designed the brew around allowing the hops to sing on top of a dark malt bomb. We aimed to brew an almost dark chocolate-like base beer and then piled on with the tropics of summit and centennial hops, lifting the waves of smooth chocolate off the tongue. We categorise Holy Cowbell as an India stout. ‘India’ coming from the same meaning behind ‘India’ pale ale. Basically lots and lots of hops added in their masses at the end of the boil and then in dry hop, to extract maximal hop flavour and aroma!

4.0 Can from Hennings in Goring. Black and Tan, very frothy, bubbly head. The aroma is rich Borneville chocolate. Taste is sharp with roasted malt.
3.6 Tap. Low brown head on a black body. Coffee, dark chocolate, some floral hop notes. Surprisingly dry, end with very round bitter notes. Medium body with small, pearly carbonation. Nice, slightly hoppy stout.

3.8 On tap at Mel's, Vienna. Shared with Niko. Black, small beige head. Moderately to heavily hoppy, fruity and herbal, neatly balanced with intense roastiness. Dry, creamy and smooth. Light hoppiness. Medium body, moderate finish. Very good.
3.9 Unfiltered and unpasteurised can. Medium tan head with no retention. Dark mahogany body. Grapefruit, chocolate malt, citrus, lemon, lime, spice, fruit, toast, coriander. Roasty bitterness. Salt. Dry finish. Creamy mouthfeel.

3.2 Dark colour, big medium head with short retention. Normal lace. Aroma of coffee, chocolate, resins. Medium body, creamy texture, normal carbonation. Taste of resins, milk chocolate, coffee. Easy drinkable, nice mix, but nothing really special for me.
4.1 ~ Aroma หอมกลิ่น Roasted Malt นำมาก่อน กลิ่นเหมือน Chocolate ตามมาด้วยกลิ่นหอมๆของกลิ่น Hop กลิ่นออกเขียวๆกำลังดี ( Roasted malt like chocolate with a hint of hop piney like ) ~ Appearance SRM 34 น้ำเบียร์สีเข้ม แสงส่องผ่านได้เล็กน้อย ( Opaque liquid ) ฟองละเอียดสวยติดขอบแก้ว Head สีแทนหนากำชังดี ( Nice Frosty tan head ) ~ Palate ซ่าเล็กน้อย ( soft carbonation ) Body กลางๆค่อยไปทางเบา ( Medium to light Body ) Texture ออก Oily เล็กน้อย ( a bit Oily texture ) ~ Taste ขมปานกลางกำลังดี ( Medium to light Bitter ) เปรี้ยวเล็กน้อย ( Light on dry ) After taste ยาวๆกับความขม โดยมีกลิ่นของ Roasted malt ประคองไปตลอดทาง จบสวยๆด้วยความหอมของ hop ( Long bitter finish with a roast malt and hop aroma ) ~ Overall คือดี และ ว๊าวมากครับ โดยทั่วๆไป Stout เนี่ย Hop profile มันมักจะถูก Roast malt ข่มจนหายไปเสมอ แต่ไม่ใช่สำหรับเบียร์ตัวนี้ครับ ผมชอบ Beavertown ตรงที่ มักจะทำเบียร์ธรรมดาๆ ให้ออกมาโคตร Cool ได้ ด้วย Gimmick ที่ดูเหมือนจะไม่มีอะไร แต่แม่งโคตรดี ( Stout with a Hop aroma . Sound so simple but this beer is Awsome !!!! )
4.0 The aroma is full of roasted coffee, chocolate, roasted malt and hops. The color is pitch black. The taste is full of roasted coffee, roasted malt, chocolate, caramel, toasted bread and hops. A nice beer!
3.6 Can. A very tough one to rate. At first, it smelt and appeared and tasted quite mundane. I found the hop and malt combo weird, far too sticky to the palate and incredibly smokey. Overtime however, it developed into a really beautifl beer. The malts and the hops were both given their time to shine simultaniously. Would need another try as this rating puts it as an overall experiecne of bad and excellent but overall good.
4.1 Pours black with a thin foamy head . Aroma of coffee , caramel and a bitter sweet taste coffee chocolate caramel
3.8 Can from bradleys in cork. Pours black with beige head. Citrus fruity, Earthy, pine, aroma. Fruity hoppy, pine, Earth, spice flavour with chocolate. Medium to high bitterness. Nice beer.
3.8 Tap at the Junkyard. Pours dark brown with foamy tan/off white/ beige top. Aroma is muted citrus with chocolate malt. I was expecting a variant on the Terry's chocolate orange. Thankfully it wasn't. Taste was medium sweet in fruit and strengthening bitter chocolate. Palate was medium to full bodied due to thick feel, carbonation soft to average, finish long and bitter (like life). It made me re-think Black IPA as a type. And since we all look for confirmation, anything that changes minds must be cheered.
3.2 Vom Fass Stone Brewing Berlin 2016-06 getrunken. Lecker und schön balanciertes (Outmeal) Stout.
3.7 Piwo czarne jak smola nalewa sie cienka warstwa lekko bezowej piany. Mocno chmielowe i lekko palone, troche kakao i nut sosnowych. Polwytrawne i gladkie z wysyceniem na srednim poziomie.
3.6 Can @home (rating backlog). Pours black, opaque, beige head. Nose chocolate, roasted malts, pine, slight citrus. Taste is pine, bitter finish, bitter start for that matter.
3.8 Black with little brown head. Aroma is dark chocolate, leaves cactus fruit cocoa grains. Taste is bitter and sweet chocolate. More cocoa grains. Smooth but a bit flat. Still very good.
3.5 Can at glass. Pours almost pitch black. Nose is chocolate, toffee, toast, citrus, orange peel. Palate is bitter chocolate, fruity orange, citrus, bread. Bitter finish. Tasty, but black ipas haven’t blown me away yet.
3.5 33cl glass at In de Wildan in Amsterdam. Pours a a pitchblack colour with a medium tan head. Aroma of hops, peach, citrus, orange, resin, pine. Taste is moderate sweet, medium bitter with a medium dry finish. Notes of dark malt, roasted malt, caramel, honey, coffee, cocoa, orange, peach. Texture is oily, medium to light bodied with moderate carbonation
4.2 Can from Beerlovers, Vienna. Pours black colour with beige head. Opens with hoppy bitterness followed by cocoa powder righ away in aroma. Bitterness rule its taste, again with some cocoa notes that last till the finish, which is quite long. Light to medium bodied, has pleasant creamy mouthfeel and is easy to drink. Liked this one very much.
4.1 Can was past best before dzte for some months. Great dark robe with whitey-yellowy foam. Nose of coffee, dark fruits and fresh hops and grass. In mouth, the same equation, greatly balanced in a medium body, finished by a light grassy bitterness (lightness certainly due to age of the can). Overall great balance, really fresh and enjoyable.
3.7 Can from Oddbins. Pours very dark brown with a large frothy beige head. Aroma of hops, malt, roasted coffee, chocolate, citrus and pine. Medium sweetness and bitterness. Medium body, slight oily texture, soft carbonation.
3.9 Can@home, dark colour, hight dense head, coffee, malti, little hops in between, overall rich
3.0 Can at home. Deep brown, almost black colour small brown lacing. Nose is dissonant. Hops and chocolate. Taste is pretty dissonant as well. Hoppy bitterness with definitve roasted malty notes. Idk. Feels like someone grabbed a wrong bag of malts when brewing an ipa...
4.1 Draft at Dynamo. Black color huge tan head with good retention. Aroma of burnt espresso and pine. Taste is bitter earthy cocoa.
3.5 0,33l can. Nose: coffee, dark chocolate, weed. Taste: grassy floral hops, roastiness, dark chocolate.
