Beer Here / Ugly Duck Helmuth Kellerbier

Beer Here / Ugly Duck Helmuth Kellerbier

Helmuth is a beer inspired by the German Kellerbier (or Zwickel as they are also known). It is a unfiltered lager, usually served very fresh and thus less clean and bitter than normal
German pilsner or Helles but with more body, fruitiness and complexity making it a most
satisfying beer. It was decided that the beer needed to have a twist distinguishing it from
its German cousins so we used the rarely used American Athanum hop. The beer is being brewed as a collaboration project between Ugly Duck Brewing and Beerhere on initiative of the Finnish beer geek and importer Juha Ikonen from the famous Finnish pub Pikkulinto.

3.5 Flaske.
3.3 Bottle: Golden, hazy, small stable off-white foamy layer with a lttle lace; mild nutty-caramelly nose with a very distinctive tannic-hoppy background; moderate to solid bitter-sweet flavour, light to medium bodied and quite soft; dryish herbal and grapefruity finish with a mild malty counterpart. Good, a kind of bottom-fermented Pale Ale…
3.2 First rating: Medium creamy offwhite head. Hazy deep yellow body with carbonation. Fruity perfumy strawy aroma with grainy raisiny notes. Dry-sweet resiny fruity taste with mealy wooden notes. Mid-bodied. Mild, mealy mouthfeel. Dryish fruity mealy wooden aftertaste with resiny notes. A bit sharply hopped, but kind of delicate, too. Still, much more like a less-filtered pale ale than any kellerbier I ever had. (0.4l draft at Nedre Foss Gård, Oslo.) 6,4,6,3,13=3.3 Second rating: Small white head. Hazy yellow body. Dusty strawy fruity aroma with spicy notes. Dry strawy wooden grassy taste with fruity vegetable notes. Mid-bodied. Mild, mealy mouthfeel. Dryish floral fruity aftertaste with wooden grassy notes. Nice and highly drinkable. (0.1l draft somewhere.)
3.0 Beer was nice and malty, herbal hop aroma with notes of malted bread. Kinda bitter tho, unbalanced.
2.8 Aroma: Not much there. Citrus and hop notes. Appearance: Murky golden syrup colour. Light head. Taste: Slightly sweet pineapple and lemon flavours, with a little hop kick. Palate: Sweet, with a bitter finish. Very light carbonation, light body. Overall: OK, if a bit dull. Muted aromas and flavours, in what could have been a great beer.
2.8 Flaska boxbeer. Mörkorange kulör. Maltig doft med torkat hö och bark. Doften drar mycket åt blöt kartong. Bra beska
3.1 330 ml, flaske, 4,6 % ABV, BB: 16/12/15, købt i Meny i Rotunden i Hellerup, 1. september 2015.
3.0 Bottle. Pours hazy golden with a white head. Aroma of citrus, hay and grain, sweet, malts. Quite malty, with some dead hops grain. Guess is was too old.
3.2 (bottle, 33cl) Hazy, golden colour with a medium-sized, slightly off-white foamy head. Bready malty aroma with hints of caramel and vanilla, backed by mildly citric and grassy hops. Moderately bitter and slightly sweet flavour, light bodied with a moderate carbonation. Mildly bready malt character with present hoppy accents, which are grassy, mildly resiny and delicately fruity; dry and moderately hop bitter finish with a discreetly balancing malty sweetness. 08.III.15
2.9 Slightly hazy golden color with a fine white head. Nice lacing on the glass. Citric, herbal and malty aroma. Medium body and a fine carbonation. Semi dry and a moderate bitterness. Herbal, grassy and malty flavor. Decent and easy drinkable beer. [Bottle from IRMA Industriens Hus in Copenhagen, Denmark]
3.2 Dark golden color with a white head, medium duration. Aroma has notes of light caramel, some bready notes and flowery hops. Flavor is light bittery with light caramel and mild maltiness. Medium bitterness in the final with dry mouthfeel.
3.4 Hazy orange, thick offwhite head. Strong hoppy aroma. Malty flavour, caramel and hoppy bitterness.
3.3 Tasted 2015-06-08. Pours clear, golden with white head. Citrussy aroma with hints of pineapple and grass. Grassy hoppy finish. Mouthfeel on the watery side. Overall pleasant and very drinkable.
Medium kropp.
3.2 A hazy golden amber coloured beer with a thick white head. A strong fruity aroma, hoppy, grassy and pithy orange and grapefruit. Dry mouthfeel. A potent hoppy flavour, loads of citrus fruit especially orange and grapefruit, grassy and a tad herbal, thyme and tarragon. The finish is long and strong in hoppy citrus fruit.
3.7 Copenhagen 13/9 2014. Bottle 33 cl donated by my girlfriend. Pours yellow and slightly hazy. Aroma is flowery and strong. Taste is not as flowery as aroma suggests. But nice lasting bitter taste with a lot of hops in it. Very pleasant but WHO the fuck is "the legendary Helmuth of Finland"?
3.3 (Draught at Man in the Moon, Stockholm, 9 Feb 2015) Hazy golden colour with frothy, white head. Malty, slightly fruity nose with notes of toast, apricots and orange. Malty, fruity taste with bread, toast, orange peel, apricots and fresh floral hops in a finish with a balanced bitterness. Medium body, with a touch of sweetness. Fresh and tasty. Quite nice.
