4.0 33cl bottle from Bierhalle Deconinck in Vichte. Deep dark brown color with a beige head. Smells of liquorice, orange peel, bit of mint, pine, roasty but not too heavy. Taste starts of sweet with pine and resinous flavors from the hop and ends with a balanced bitterness. Very fresh and hoppy with a bit of roastiness, just how I like them.
3.4 Bottle from my EuroSanta Nisse666, many thanks! Dark brown color with big beige head. Aroma is citrusy, floral, piney, liquorice, roasted. Taste is roasted malts with coffee, citrusy, orange. Medium carbonation - a really good Black IPA I suppose, but I still have problems to fully appreciate this style.
3.7 Many thanks to Nisse666 for this bottle! Label says BlackIPA #07. Great intense floral nose with roasted malts. Smooth and intense roasted bitter beginning. The floral hops are not too intense, but fit in great. Smooth and mild with pine and resin, coffee and roasted malt. The aftertaste is long, piney with a nice roasted dry coffee texture. Great stuff!
4.1 Bottle at home in London - sourced from Beergium. Pours rich black-brown with a creamy, tan head. Classic CDA stout, with equal measures of pine, roasted malts and restrained juicy citrus, orange. Medium sweet flavour with nicely balanced roast, some bittersweet cocoa, rindy orange, scorched earth, hints of coffee, mellow alcohol, a little ash. Medium bodied with fine carbonation and velvety texture. Lightly warming to finish, resinous, with piney hops, further baking cocoa, vibrant citrus fruits, some rindy bitterness, a little burnt grass, melon, tangerine, lingering roast. Really an outstanding CDA from top to bottom.
3.1 Black pour with a thick beige head. Roasty, chocolatey, citrus aromas. Taste is sweetish, dark chocolate, roasty, and decent whack of bitterness at the end
3.0 Bottle from Cornelius. Dark brown body with ruby highlights and a thin beige head. Faint lacing. Aroma of tar, parma violets and glue. Flavour of brambles, blueberries and pine. Medium body with a smooth mouthfeel. Soft fizz. Just ok. There was a weird solvent note on the aroma but it didn’t carry through to the taste.
