3.6 Pint in Belfast. Opaque black with a steadfast dense cream head. Aroma is berry, roast nuts, praline. Flavour is dark berries, roast nuts, vanilla and a touch of leather. Creamy full palate.good stuff.
3.5 Bottle. Roasted chocolate & coffee. Rather boring but solid stout. Didn’t notice oatmeal
3.0 Bottle. Black color with tall foamy tan head. Medium body, bitter and sharp taste, coffee aroma, long finish just okay.
3.6 Huge mocha colored head recedes slowly over the black body. Aroma of bittersweet chocolate with a hint of dark fruit. Coffee and chicory stand out in the initial taste while the earthy roasty flavors play catch-up. More chocolate in the aftertaste. Medium bodied, well carbonated mouthfeel with a lingering finish.
3.1 12oz bottle into an English pint glass. Pours a rich black with a thin creamy head. Rich roasted malt and coffee aroma which is unfortunately not matched in the flavour department. Rather light on the palate with a sweet flavour and a light bitter finish.
3.6 Bottle. This is a pretty lack luster sweet stout with a decent body bit not much flavour.
3.7 Poored out of bottle into a glass. Poors dark with a thin tan head. Aroma is of chocolate, coffee, and a nice nutty smell. I really enjoy the aroma of this beer. The initial taste of the beer is that of a barley, alcohol taste. Soft notes of bittnerness, which in my opinion is great. The after taste is what makes this beer shine. The after taste is of barley, chocolate, and coffee. I love bitter beers, and stouts nonetheless so this was a great beer to drink for my tastes. Thanks for the great brew! Cheers .
3.0 Pours a dark brown with a thin tan head. The aroma has some milk chocolate, coffee, and roast malts. The flavor is similar but very harsh. Thin in the end. Great start, so so finish.
3.1 Single 12 FL. OZ. bottle purchased from Top Shelf Brews... for $1.79? I honestly can’t remember, but I know it didn’t exceed $2. To snifter it pours a dark charcoal brown with trim a toffee tanned head, not even a fingernail in length. Smells and tastes of cheap bourbon, sorghum molasses, booze, Lodndon yeast, vinyl, leather, and some brief roast/ash. Where the hell was the oatmeal? If it was there, it was well hidden. Meh.
2.9 pours black with no head. This beer tastes like watered down coffee, it is lightly bitter and has a bit of a roasted malts taste with a medium sourness
3.6 12oz bottle, thanks to tmoney99. Best by date: Dec, 2012. Black color. Good 1-finger thick brown head. Nice toasty, oaty, chocolatey nose. Good lighter carbonation, lighter body. Easy to drink, smooth... But still a light chewiness to it that is very enjoyable. Nice roast, light coffee, light burnt malts. Good bittersweet taste. Slight metallic. Lightly smokey. Hint of tobacco. Some chocolate-cereal.. Some sediment visible at the bottom of the glass. Very satisfying oatmeal stout... Much better than expected
3.5 Bottle. Poured a black color with a medium off-white creamy head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Medium toasted chocolate malt aroma. Medium body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. Medium roasted dark sweet flavor with a medium dark sweet finish of average duration. Solid drinkable brew.
3.4 Pours a dark black pour with a quick disappearing mocha head. Nose is chocolate and dark roasted coffee, and pleasant enough. Taste is roasted coffee as well with a bitter sweet chocolate taste as well. Finish is sweet with a medium body, descent and drinkable but nothing to write home about. Quaff Score 7 / 10
3.3 Pours black with a brown head and sweet chocolatly aroma. Taste is of chocolate, roasted malt, light hop, and toasted carmael with a roasty finish. Solid stout
3.7 Pours a black color with a thick brown head. Nice oatmeal taste with a burnt coffee finish. Had this with breakfast like the name suggests. Bit drier than I was hoping.
3.6 Pitch black coloured body with a decent two centimetre tall pungent brown coloured head and a 90% opaque glow. Aroma of roasted malt, milk, alcohol and a bit of peat and mulch. Medium-bodied; Strong roasted malt flavours with some caramel and light milk chocolate, a bit of peat and a bit of a spice note. Aftertaste relatively mild with the roasted malt, hints of oatmeal depth and a bit of raisins noticeable. Overall, a decent sweet stout with a good depth, but not much complexity. Definitely one to try if you like the style or are trying to avoid over-hopped beers. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Half Time in Poughkeepsie, New York on 26-December-2012 for US$2.29 sampled at home in Washington on 04-January-2013.
3.9 Bottle. Pours almost black with thin brown head. Nice coffee aroma. Bold beginning with the taste of roasted and chocolate malt and a bit creamy. The finish lingers with bitterness from the roasted malt. This is a good stout, maybe not as smooth as some others but full bodied and full flavored.
3.5 on tap (9/23) at hurricane wings. dark milky pour with gray head. thick and creamy mouthfeel. full of cocoa hints and chocolate flavors
2.6 Color: Deep black with dark brown head. Nose: Not much. Typical stout accents, but nothing stands out. Taste: Very thin on the palate. Very identifiable Hershey’s Kiss chocolate flavor, but other than that I get faint typical stout tastes (coffee, copper, etc.) Taste disappears quickly. Overall: Disappointing. Far better stout is available for the same price.
3.4 bottled, thanks to skykob for bringing this back from the states. almost black with a thin light brown head; full aroma of coffee, plum and petrifd wood; plenty of flavours - nail polish, liquorice, salty porridge, cocoa powder; somewhat watery texture but quite drinkable nonetheless
3.5 Bottle, best by Oct. ’12. Pours dark brown with a small mocha head. Aromas of roasty chocolate, coffee, and caramel. Milky, sweet cocoa flavor, with some coffee. Alright. [1001]
3.4 Pours black with a decent tan head and lacing. Aroma and flavor are roasted malt, oats, and some coffee and chocolate. A medium mouthfeel and thinkness to the body. Its a descent stout, almost as good as the one I made.
2.9 Long Island, NY - 12 oz. bottle poured a deep black color with very tan head, no lacing. Aroma was of alcohol, some chocolate and roasted malts. Taste was initially coy then opened up into somewhat of an alcoholic mess and all other flavors were lost. I'm not a stout lover so this opinion is biased.
3.1 Black thinner than expected pour. Aromas of oatmeal, smoke, chocolate and roasted malts. Taste was roast and oatmeal. A little thin in the body. Not bad.
3.3 12 ounce bottle purchased at Total Wine Pembroke Pines, FL for $1.99 Very good.
3.3 Black in the tradition of the darkest of the dark knights. A luxurious chocolate head soon flattens to a thin frothed layer. The aroma is thick with molasses, coffee, tar and ashen burned out embers of cigarette butts. Further aeration parts the stronger components and lays a cool stream of earthy chocolate malt. Surprisingly, this one is rather thin-bodied, with a definite oaty character that smooths out some of the harshness, though the finish is a bit too acrid with ash.
2.9 12 ounce bottle that pours a thin carbonated black cola color. Aromas of some coffee, chocolate, and a touch of roast. Flavor is much of the aroma, light on the palate, not as thick as I was hoping for.
3.5 355ml bottle. Pours black with some dark brown around the edges. Head was medium sized and very dark, almost milk chocolate head. Very good aroma, some chocolate, coffee, alcohol and lots of roasty malts. Taste doesn’t quite hold up to the presentation. Some coffee, toffee, chocolate with roasty bitterness dominating and a hint of soy sauce on the finish. Palate was lighter than the appearance suggested with a dry finish, but is not watery at all. Overall, starts strong but then doesn’t quite hold to the finish. It is not bad at all, especially for the price, but it is not amazing.
4.4 bière de type oatmeal stout de 6.5% d’alcool, bien houblonnée et malté, acheté au maine.
2.8 Another local boy from Shipyard’s coastwise empire. I guess I smell the oats, but mostly coffee and malt. Burnt coffee black color, almost no head. Taste some hops, bitter for stout. Malt is on the back end. Too thin really, but at least it isn’t overfilling.
