Bell's 30th Anniversary Ale - Imperial Stout

Bell's 30th Anniversary Ale - Imperial Stout

Flavors of dark chocolate and fruit meld to create a full-bodied, roasty stout.

A fair amount of Polaris hops lend a brightness and a nice character that will help carry the beer in its early stages making it incredibly drinkable and interesting. Malt characteristics will continue to develop over time, so that beer drinkers who choose to cellar it can enjoy the beer for years to come.

This big, strong celebratory beer (11% ABV) will be released in September coinciding with our 30th anniversary celebration.

3.8 Aromas of beef jerky, smoked malt, bacon, dark malt, chocolate, oak, toffee, dark roasted malt and fresh meatloaf. Pours dark with almost no foam or lacing. Taste brings chocolate, beef jerky, roasted beef, smoked malts, burnt ashes, charcoal malts and campfire ash upfront. Mid palate notes of smoked ham, dark chocolate, burnt malt syrup and maple. Finishes ridiculously smooth with residual chocolate. Overall, a very excellent take on the style with plenty of aged notes. B rating,
4.2 Bottled on 8/29/15 and poured from the 12 oz bottle into a snifter. Opaque black-brown body with a thin size, semi-durable tan head. Low carbonation. On oily brown coating can be seen on the glass upon tipping it, along with a modicum of lacing. Aroma - an inviting mix of alcohol, dark dried fruits, ripe pitted fruits, chocolate, roasted malts and toffee. Bitter-sweet rich flavor. Partially hidden 11% ABV; drinks like ~9%. Hints of dark chocolate, raisins, coffee, toffee and dark toast. Full, thick, smooth body. Low but adequate carbonation. Warming but not hot. Overall: a superb, rich, well balanced RIS. I’d like to try this at the same time as Black Note -- maybe next time.

4.1 Bottle received in trade. Thanks Brandon! Black pour with a small frothy mocha head. Huge roasty malt-heavy coffee driven nose with bitter chocolate, moist soil, liquorice & wood. Slightly sweet, bitter, malty & heavy roasty. Soft, round, roasted astringent, tiny boozy mouthfeel. Tiny bit high in the carbonation. Huge roast & piney hops finish. Sucker punch in a good way. Very American & as expected from this brewer very tasty.
3.6 Pours a very dark brown with no head almost except for a beige rim that leaves very low lacing. Nose is of soy sauce (pretty intense), ash, alcohol and smoke. Feels like it is going to give you an headache in the morning, really. Taste is of chocolate/fudge, more smoke, booze and burnt malt. Wish it was just a tad less boozy as it would be easier to drink... Body is fill, carbonation soft and it doesn’t feel THAT hot for 11% ABV but it still didn’t drink like a "normal" 9% impy either... Smooth and rich mouthfeel. A good rich stout but we were expecting a whole lot more I think. I’d rather have Expedition than this.
3.5 Bottle 330ml. Pours very dark brown with low beige head. Aroma is of coffee, molasses. Taste is of coffee, roasted malt, ashes, umami, bitterness. Palate: Full bodied, soft carbonation. Overall: Good stuff. Im not a fan of ashy beers.
3.8 Bottle (12 oz), shared. Pitch black with reddish hues, a small ring of brown foam and little to no lacing. Aroma is of dark chocolate, soy sauce, ashes, roasted malts and marshmallow notes. Taste is semi-sweet with dark chocolate, ashes, roasted malts, soy sauce, light alcohol and marshmallow. Medium body. Moderate-medium carbonation. Chocolatey finish. Good barrel-aged RIS but really far from Expedition Stout (and even Black Note) in terms of balance.
3.7 bottle shared by tom10101, many thanks! pours unclear very dark brown with a small light beige cap offering some retention and lacing. tons of umami chocolate, burnt caramel, smoky hazelnuts, ashes, wooden booze. moderately low carbonation, medium body - oily; semi-sweet smoky finish. warming and smoky imperial stout.
3.5 Dark brown pour with few beige bubbles for a head. Aroma of roasted malts, dark chocolate, slight fruits and hops. Taste of roasted malts, dark unsweetened chocolate, very faint coffee and hops. Full bodied, medium carbonation, bitter roasty finish. Solid imperial stout but i was expecting so much more, damn!
3.6 Black liquid, 1 finger head of tan foam. Smells of big roasted malt, some caramel, coffee, a wee bit of oxidation. Roasted almost burnt malt taste with mild coffee that brings some bitterness. Alcohol not present too much in the taste but certainly assertive after the swallow. Nice enough Imperial Stout.
4.0 Pours dark brown/black with lasting light lacing. Big chocolate roasted malt and raisins. Not quite as thick mouthfeel as I expected goes to an extremely smooth finish.
3.8 Bottle thanks to Rob. Pours a dark brown with small beige head that lasts. The aroma is strong chocolate, roast, licorice. Medium body, roast, dark chocolate, wood, boozy finish, very good.
3.9 12 oz. bottle purchased locally last year, although I can’t remember where I bought it. Pours a nearly opaque deep, dark brown with a small dark tan head that settles into a ring. Notes of milk and dark chocolate, oats, roasted malts, tobacco, toast, brown sugar, earth, and a hint of dark fruit. Medium-bodied, with moderate carbonation and a roasty, smooth mouthfeel. Good stout.
