Bell's Cherry Stout

Bell's Cherry Stout

This unique ale begins its life as a powerful and richly sweet stout to which Michigan tart cherries are added. The resulting black brew is complex, sweet and tart with a distinct cherry finish. It will improve with cellaring.

4.6 Sweet but refreshing. The cherry taste is perfect. Overall I found it to be one of the best stouts.
3.3 Black with rimming tan head Aroma is roasty malt hints of molasses Flava is tangy and sweet roasty molasses Feels medium with fizzy zing Finishes roasty tangy dry
2.2 Pours pitch black with a thin sickly creme head. Aroma of fruited and toasted malt. Taste has dark, dry malt. Palate has tart cherry notes. Drinkable but not great.
2.7 The Aromas are mild and straightforward traditional Stout with some natural cherry. Flavors are like nose with some molasses and mineral added I remember this as being better.
4.1 Nice balance of cherry & chocolate flavor. Cherry tart, but not too much.
3.5 Bottle, 12C. Very dark brown with a brown head that's soon at the rim. Almost Baltic porter-like coffee, roast and dark sugars aroma mingled with cherries and balsamic vinegar. Sweet and sour with bitterness that is really just enough to make a finish and leave faint cherries to linger. I like it but 7% seems a bit strong for what it offers.
3.6 Dark brown with a thin head and a cherry, dark chocolate, coffee nose. Malty with medium carbonation and a dry, tart cherry, dark chocolate, espresso finish.
3.6 Bottle. Aroma of cookie, cherry, roast malt, cocoa. Pours a sort of thick beer like slick oil. Smells great, tastes ok. Smells like chocolate covered cherry. Cherry is a bit tart with some roast malt and cocoa. Medium body.
3.7 12oz bottle at home. Dark brown pour with a dissipating thin tan head. Cherry and dark malt nose. Flavors are more focused around chocolate and dark malt than cherries, light roasted character, hints of coffee. Soft carb, medium body. Finish has nice roastiness and some tart cherry. Overall not bad.
3.4 12 oz. bottle. Pours a medium, well retained beige head, with layered lacing, over a clear dark brown (SRM 40) body......nose is cherry, toasted malts with cocoa, chocolate, light coffee tones, slight herbal notes, balance to the fruit and malts......taste is mildly sweet with cherry tones, cocoa, chocolate, hints of coffee tones, all from the toasted malts with slight nuttiness, finishing with mild hints of bitterness.....mouth feel, medium body, mild alcohol, moderate carbonation. This is a pleasantly complex, easily drinkable winter type beer. Rating as a fruit beer, with the base Stout having the flaw of light hop contribution. BJCP 7/3/14/5/7
3.6 mild mild mild mild. its very smooth but sort of lack luster. the cherry knocks back any robust stout flavors, and just mellows everything out. its good but not mind blowing
3.5 Bottle, thanks Eddan. Black with a small tan head. On the sweet side with chocolate, dark malt, cherries and some licorice. The body was on the light side. A decent one.
3.2 Mörkt brun öl med inslag av rött. Beige skum. Doft och smak av choklad och körsbär. Smakerna gifter sig inte med varandra utan ligger var för sig.
3.3 Sampled this right after trying the Kalamazoo Stout for the first time. Wishing I got extra Kalamazoo instead. I have been wanting to try this for a while, so grabbed a single to preview. I liked the Kalamazoo a lot better. This actually reminded me of the Kalamazoo as far as the base goes, but the added cherry juice didn't do it for me. I think I it is official, I like my beers brewed with fruit....not with juice added. The appearance is still thick and dark, with an added red tint cause of the cherry and all. It was kind of cool at first, but in the end I think it was a little odd and took away the awe that a midnight black gives. I'll repeat, can't wait to buy a 6'er of the Kalamazoo though!
3.9 A very interesting stout! The cherry flavor was very subtle, more of a tartness than anything.
2.5 Nice dark color. Although it said it was cherry flavoring, I did not taste any. It was smooth and clean finish, but it tasted like a porter with no cherry.
3.2 It's so rare to find fruit in a porter and I typically hate fruit in beer but if you're going to do it this is the one.
3.5 Bottle. A- Roasty, dusty, cherry, chocolate. A- Black color, black liquid, brown head. T- Roasty, mild cherry, cocoa, mild tobacco. P- Medium body, average texture, average carbonation, dry finish. O- Honestly a touch let down. Not much in terms of cherry either in sourness or general taste at all. Fairly roasty and tastes like a straightforward stout. At 3 months old maybe my bottle just wasn't a standard issue cherry stout. Good for sure, but didn't meet the hype.
3.8 Thanks Trevor Cherry sourness in aroma. Taste is tart cherries combined with with roast. Aftertaste is sour stout.
3.6 Black with one finger thick., brown head. Aroma of chocolate malt and cherries. Slightly sweet taste with some cherry sourness. Moderate, roasted bitterness.
3.8 ruby black color; dark chocolate and cherry aroma; bitter chocolate and tart cherry dominate the flavor; medium bodied, roasted malt base; more tart cherry notes in the finish
4.1 From 6'er at local liquor store served in a highball glass- poured a near black when held to a light source with shades of maroon, aroma of cherries and hardwoods- interesting. Hits the mouth with a wide body, malt was roasted until it screamed to stop, and they kept roasting it still. Cherry, not very artificial, comes in the middle, finish is sticky and delightful. Bout time I had a damn beer.
3.6 Strong cherry and smoke aroma, slightly bitter throughout. Very strong and fruity stout, fairly good, just a tad funky.
3.8 ABV - 7.0. .Appearance: Black, slight ruby tint perhaps. Foamy brown head with great lacing. .Aroma: Dark fruit, dark chocolate, roasted malt. Nothing really standing out. .Taste: Roasted malt upfront with notes of chocolate and cherry. Delicious cherries, not sweet, tart. A very nice roasted bitterness balances out the beer. The finish is a nice dark chocolate taste, combined with a lingering tartness. .Mouthfeel: Smooth, rich, full bodied. Easy drinking. .Overall: B+ .Bottom Line: An excellent combination of flavors; you get chocolate malt, some roasted bitterness, and a nice long tart finish. Nice smooth, full body - easy to drink. The scent this beer gives off does not match the rest of the experience, but overall this is a good one.
3.8 Dark as night with a brown head that quickly laced. Tastes of sour/tart cherries, ginger, brown sugar and roasted barley. Almost a sugary cherry/apple pie aroma. I found this to be well balanced with the fruit and stout elements complimenting each other well.
3.0 Medium body, the cap is a thin tan ring. The sour cherries come out in the aroma not much from the stout itself. Flavor is all sour cherry upfront with some earthy and coffee flavors on the backside.
4.2 Berry or cherry-infused Stouts are typically brews that I pass up, but I might have to cellar some of these. This Bell's Stout hits the perfect balance of malt and fruit. The cherry flavor is equal parts sweet and tart. The fruitiness is redolent of black cherry and other dark fruits. Malt character of cocoa and roast. This reminds me of some Michigan cherry coffees that I've tried, but fortunately, it lacks the medicinal chemical note.
3.3 Bottle. It poured a black color with a tan head. The aroma was of chocolate, cherry and malts. The taste was similar to the aroma with more chocolate, cherries, malts and medium carbonation with a nice sweet aftertaste. Not bad.
2.0 nice chocolate, very tart cherry taste in the end
3.7 Pours black with a medium brown head. The nose has mostly chocolate and cherry, though its a bit roasted and has mild coffee as well. The degree of tartness in here surprised me. The tartness is strong initially before tapering off and lingering on your palate. There is a heavy cherry flavor that is complimented by a chocolate base. Minor roasted hints, and thats about all as the cherry dominates from start to finish. Medium in body, creamy in texture, and just about flat in carbonation. This one is different than most stouts, but its solid.
