Bell's Planet Series: Jupiter - The Bringer Of Jollity

Bell's Planet Series: Jupiter - The Bringer Of Jollity

The fourth release in our Planets Series shines the spotlight on specialty malts, while the hops take on more of a supporting role. Brewed with seven different varieties of malt and hopped for a balanced bitterness, this Imperial Brown Ale has bready, biscuity, toasty notes along with light chocolate and roast flavors. This beer is robust, warming and satisfying like the piece of music it was named after.

3.0 Light brown appearance. Light bitterness, a little vanilla with chocolate. taste is similar. still faded like the other beers in the series. some raisin, cocoa, roasted tastes.
3.5 12oz bottle from trade with umich03jm. Thanks, Jason! Held on to these so I could do the whole series together. Pours medium brown with a beige head. Aroma is caramel, toffee. Flavor is bread, toffee, coffee, over extracted coffee bitterness in the finish.
4.0 Poured from bottle thanks Willrunforbeer for the Ratebeer Camp extravaganza. Dark brown pour with a thin tan head. Aromas of raisin and chocolate. Taste is consistent with the aroma. Very nice beer.
3.8 12 oz. bottle, consumed on 8-16-15. “PKGD 2/14/15,” so consumed at almost exactly six months old. Pours a hazy, medium brown with a small to moderate amount of taupe head. Produces some lacing but nothing too impressive. Acceptable but ordinary appearance. Strong, pleasant, malty aroma. Chocolate and barnyard scents, the latter of which surprised me. Toastiness bordering on roastedness in the smell. Very nice flavor is consistent with the aroma, but the flavor is even better than the aroma. Pumpernickel bread crust and toffee. A touch of fruit: Plum, pear. Complex flavors. Roasted dry aftertaste. Medium to full body. Smooth and oily in the palate. Good to very good beer; well-made and quite enjoyable. This is not the sort of beer that usually gets me very excited, but it’s executed so well that I would be happy to buy more, similar beers after all. Comes together well enough that I added a bonus point to the overall score.
3.6 12 oz. bottle. Pours a murky dark brown and shows a tight thin foamy film. Aroma has roasted malt chocolate some raisin. Taste is bitter roasty malt chocolate melded with raisin soft spice burnt marshmallow. Palate is full dry coating.
3.6 Murky mahogany pour with a dense latte head that left a spot or two of lacing. Toast, buttermilk biscuit, oats, nuts, caramel, roasted malt, cocoa, and hints of coffee. Definitely get the alcohol presence. Not bad for a brown.
3.5 Dark malty fruit smell...complex..taste is a little bitter coffee on back end...front is slightly sweet malt then turns to alcohol and finishes with the bitterness, solidly good beer but not greatness
3.1 Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a murky dark brown color with a large foamy tan head that lingered but left minimal lacing. The aroma was malty and woody with cherry, cola and a bit of toastiness. The flavor was malty, nutty and bready with notes of cherry, cola and a noticeable alcohol presence. Long finish. Medium body. Ok.
3.2 Pretty dry brown ale. Malty, dash of prune in the taste, dash of spicy hops. High ABV is well hidden. Nothing spectacular but a solid brew
3.5 Bottle poured a dark brown color with a ring of off white head. Aroma has heavy brown malts, chocolate, and mild roast. Mouth feel is medium heavy with low carbonation. Flavor has loads of malted richness, chocolate, mild bitterness, nuts, and roast.
3.1 It’s a strong brown ale, but I’m not exactly a big brown ale fan, so it’s OK. Quite malty and bready.
3.6 Bottle. Pours a deep brown with a dense tan head and aromas of autumn leaves, nuts and brown sugar. Flavor is decent enough and follows the nose fairly closely. It’s a solid brown/imperial brown but nothing really shines here.
3.5 Bottle. This is a real malt bomb that manages to hold back from crossing over into too sweet territory. Great brew.
3.7 Reminds me of a Leffe Brune without the Belgian spice. Caramel, roast malts and some bread dominate the aroma and flavor. Very smooth and nicely balanced. Very good.
3.0 Bottle. Brown body. Frothy beige head. Aroma of toasted grain and some roast, too. Molasses, chocolate, biscuit. The flavor is moderately to heavily sweet and lightly bitter. It finishes moderately sweet and lightly to moderately bitter. Medium body, syrupy texture, lively carbonation. Thick and overly sweet.
3.7 Bottle at RIBCO, pours a murky dark brown with a thin light off white head, the aroma is of light chocolate and roast, maybe a little bit of dark fruit tossed in there as well, the flavor follows to what you would expect, a nice roasty front end with some chocolate and malt in the finish, nice mouthfeel, good stuff.
3.4 Bottle 355ml @ Ashley’s, Ann Arbor, MI Pours dark reddish brown with a off-white head. Aroma has notes of malt, caramel and some fruitiness. Taste is medium sweet and light to medium bitter with a long malty, caramel and fruity finish. Body is medium to full, texture is oily, carbonation is soft.
3.6 Bottle, at Ashley’s, Ann Arbor. It’s a dark brown beer with a dense, small beige head. There’s a good dash of roasted malts in the aroma, amber dried fruits and a licorice touch. It’s full bodied, semi sweet and faintly warming, quite smooth. Roasted malts, licorice, dried fruits and brown sugar. Lasting finish. A bit simple this one, but sure good. 150615
3.7 Bottle, big chcolate aroma and malt aroma, taste is a little more mellow, fine for a brown ale, but nothing special
3.9 12 ounce bottle from Whole Foods Charlottesville, 4/18/15. Dark brown, large fizzy tan head. Decent retention. Aroma of chocolate malt. The taste is chocolate, candied citrus. Medium bodied, sticky texture, moderate carbonation.
3.1 Bottle - Pours beautiful deep brown with a thin tan head. Nose is bold dark bread, a little peanut butter and chocolate, and a slightly bitter toastiness. Taste is lots of toasted medium bread, bitter plastic, sharp alcohol, and a long, malty finish. Thin, watery, and well-carbonated.
3.5 Bottle. Pours a dark brown color with off white head. Toast, malty, burnt barley aromas. Burnt toast, malty, toasted grains, brown sugar flavors. An interesting toasted beer.
3.7 Bottle: This is one of the better beers out of the Planet Series, so far. It’s big and malty and the 8%abv balances some of that sweetness out of it. Good Stuff.
4.0 Cloudy brown pour with a thin tan head. Unique sweet bready aroma. Medium bodied with a hint of malt sweetness a big bread and biscuity flavor. Smooth
3.3 Bottle, thanks to Shrubber85, had this with nub double maduro, cocoa and malty syrup aroma, flavor is chocolate , malty leather , walnuts , sweet finish
4.0 Bottle. Pours a deep brown with a tan head. Dark roasted malt, caramel and chocolate in the aroma and taste, Delicious.
3.8 Draught @ Headkeeper: This one pours a fairly opaque brown color. There was a bit of a brown head that didn’t linger long or leave much lacing. The aroma is a little lighter than expected. Maybe some chocolate, nuttiness and vanilla. The taste is good. It is well balanced. Nutty, some chocolate and vanilla. A subdued sweetness. Faint pine and earthy hops. Nice.
3.4 Bottle from Philly Craft. Notes of brown sugar, nuts, brown sugar and bread. Finishes slightly bitter. Nice body.
3.7 A pretty good strong brown ale. Malty notes of caramel and honey nut cheerios. Pretty decent.
3.5 12 oz. bottle from Market Wines. Pours a hazy plum brown with a small off-white head that settles into a ring and light film. Notes of toasted and caramel malts, brown sugar, leaves, nuts, earth, and mild spice. Medium-bodied, with moderate carbonation and an earthy, toasty mouthfeel that’s also slightly boozy. No balance; would otherwise be a better brown ale.
