Bell's Porter

Bell's Porter

Our award winning Porter bridges the gap between malty brown ales and heavily roasted stouts. Notes of chocolate, coffee and roasted barley are offset with just a slight hop bitterness. Enjoy any time of the year.

3.3 Bottle from Nassau. Decent carb. As they note, lighter than a standard stout with some nice nutty tones. Solid again from Bell's
3.5 Pours black with a tan head. Aroma of toasted nuts and roasted malt. Taste has mild bitter notes, dark roasted elements with a hint of coffee on the nose. Coffee notes continue onto palate, smokey finish. Good.
3.7 Moderate malty, roasty, chocolatey, and coffee aromas. Black in color with massive long lasting light brown head. Taste is of roasted barley, coffee, faint chocolate
4.2 From a bottle to a glass. Pours a very dark brown color with some ruby tones aswel Looks black in the glass. Monster tan frothy creamy head. Aroma is Chocolate, roasted malts, slight coffee. Taste follows the aroma well with a slight earthy hop note in the sip. Medium mouthfeel. Coffee note more prevalent in the sip then the aroma. Excellent Porter
4.7 At EPCOT Food & Wine
3.4 Ar: Deeply earthy; mushroom, coffee, and char. Ap: Dark brown, almost opaque; medium tan head with good retention, leaving a solid, big cap of foam. T: Earthy; cocoa, coffee, and ash; low sweetness; bitterness is medium, with a very earthy, slightly mossy hop flavor; toast and char; a little pineapple fruitiness; finish is ash and moss. M: Medium-light body with high carbonation; finish is medium-dry. O: A true-to-style porter; on the drier, earthier side, with a decidedly English influence.
4.1 12 oz. bottle pours a dark brown (nearly black) body with a one finger head of off-white foam. The aroma is malty with a hint of dark chocolate and coffee. The flavor showcases robust malts and dark roast coffee with a nice balance of hop bitterness on the finish. The mouthfeel is moderately thick and rich. Overall, this is a very solid porter with good balance.
3.6 12 oz bottle. Pours a dark impenetrable brown with an off-white head. Big smells of toasted pumpernickel. Round malty flavors with some ash coffee notes. Above average carbonation with a dry bitter finish. Very solid porter.
4.2 A good porter
3.9 Bottle poured into an English pint on 1/26/18. Dark coffee brown color with a small tan head. Aroma is cocoa, chocolate, roasted coffee. Initial taste is robust and roasted with only a hint of the sweetness in the aroma. Aftertaste is mild and mellow. Creamy body and just enough carbonation. Great example of the style!
3.4 12oz bottle. Pours nearly black with a small beige head. Aroma is coffee, chocolate, caramel, and roast. Taste is caramel, chocolate, roast, light coffee, and some nuttiness. Bitter finish. Light-medium body. Medium carbonation. Oily, smooth mouthfeel.
3.8 Dark but not heavy taste. Light choc taste. Lingers on the end a little.
4.0 Pours a very dark brown color. Half finger brown head, doesn’t last long. Reduces to a bit around the edge of the glass. Odd looking white sediment at the bottom Aroma is chocolate heavy. Some coffee. Smells like a mocha brownie.Taste is heavy dark chocolate. A little coffee. A little bitter, could be hops.Mouthfeel is light bodied. Leans wet. Sweet.Overall , a very good porter. Above average. I would recommend and would buy again.
4.4 This beer pours dark as you would think It has a robust flavor for a porter If you like dark beers this is a must have
4.3 B/B+. Warm up a little for better flavor
3.7 DATE: December 13, 2018.. OCCASION: good night of faculty Christmas party and basketball practice, with some ice mixed in.... Stoudts pint... sizzles out if the bottle, coating the glass with its coal blackness staunchly supporting a finger's worth of a browning pile of thick, fluffy head that goes nowhere... as a porter should be... the twin engines of roasted malts and coffee bean stoke the desire to drink this quickly... peat and cola are also present, with slight hoppy citrus flirting in the nostrils... again, textbook... creamy, fizzy, sharp and aggressive at the finish and medium-bodied.... highly drinkable--a comfort sipper indeed... the flavor profile is more citric than expected, with cola, light chocolate, roasted malts, peat, vegetable, and a sweet bread finish... this is what a porter should be--one I picked up at Tom's beer fest and one that was true to its label--robust, yes... Bell's continues to produce quality products, and this one is no different....
3.8 Strong coffee flavor with an even stronger bitter finish. On the bottle it says "Robust Porter" but I thought the beer came out somewhat watery and mellow. Still a very good beer. The strong coffee and the big bitter finish are the main driving forces here. There is no burned sugar like in a lot of other similar beers. A different kind of beer!
3.5 Black color with a brown head. Malt aroma. Malt forward caramel flavor. Medium smooth body. Decent Porter.
3.6 Thick head and dark brown to black color. Aroma of coffee and roasted barley. Body is a little thin but drinkable. Flavor of coffee and roasted barley, a little sweet. Decent porter.
3.9 12 ounce bottle poured into a shaker. Dark dark pour with a nice frothy head lacing the glass. Damn some serious coffee in the nose. Mellows as it warms. Good roasted malt. Damn solid brew
3.4 12oz. bottle. Packaged 08/06/2018. Pours a thick, gradually collapsing beige head with slight lacing, over a clear vrey drk brown (SRM 35) body......nose is heavy roasted malts with chocolate, lighter coffee tones, mild herbal hop notes, balance to the malts........taste is heavy roasted malts with chocolate, coffee slight smoke, dry throughout, mild hop and roasted malt bitterness on the finish, malts dominant.......mouth feel medium light body, no alcohol, moderate carbonation. This meets the Porter style nicely, BJCP 8/3/14/4/7
3.6 12oz bottle. FINALLY we can get Bell's in the Boston area. As a fan of both Kalamazoo Stout and Two Hearted Ale I was eager to try this one. It's a solid porter but does not blow me away as much as the other two mentioned. Very distinct coffee notes, more bitter than sweet. It's still very good just not as great as I was hoping for.
3.8 Roasty aroma. Nutty and roasty taste. Moderate perceived bitterness.
3.6 Bottle at home in Canaan, NH. Pours black-brown with a foamy, tan head. The nose holds moderate roast, some dried cherries, cocoa. Light sweet flavour with pleasant ashy roast, dry and bitter cocoa, mild earthy hops. Medium bodied with fine, massaging carbonation. Dry finish, some tobacco, more ashy roast and bittersweet cocoa. Nice stuff overall.
3.8 Bottle pour from The City, Plaistow, NH. Appearance is dark brown--almost opaque--with dark ruby with light source directly behind, decent sparkle at the sides of the glass, 1.5-finger width foamy beige head with decent retention and persistent ring, with trace lacing. Aroma is rich, roasty malts, chocolate. Taste is rich, roasty malts, subtle dark fruit, chocolate. Palate is light-to-medium bodied with smooth texture, soft carbonation and roasted malt sweet and bitter finish. Overall, good, but pretty one dimensional and expected more. However, this is really young (bottled date only three weeks ago) so will attempt to restrain myself and age this a bit to see if time is kind to it, as I suspect it will be.
3.9 Bell's just arrived in New Hampshire in June 2018. This is from the 12 fl. oz. bottle dated 06/05/2018. So wicked fresh (to use New England colloquial). Dark brown pour underneath a long lasting tan or off-white head. Lacing. Wafting aromas of cocoa, dark roasted malts, dark bread crust, but a low hop profile. The body is light. The taste has a balance of cocoa and roasted dark malts and a clean, earthy hop presence. It emulates the Porter style well.
3.6 Pours black with three finger, tan head. Aroma is heavy coffee, light cocoa and some molasses. Taste is dark chocolate and light molasses, warming to strong coffee and dark roast malt. Finish is strong coffee. A tasty porter.
4.0 Dark brown with ruby highlights and foamy lacy beige head Aroma is mildly roasty Flava is rich roasty malt hints of wood and berries Feels medium with nice foamy fizz Finishes moderately roasty hints of ash
2.8 Almost black pour, medium head. Aroma of some dark chocolate and dark roast. Flavor very dark roast. Dry with some bitterness. A low earthy hop. Body is thin side with astringency. No hint of sweetness.A bit too dark and overattenuated.
3.5 Near black with tan head. Aroma is coffee and roasty. Taste is medium bitter, light sweet and very light sour. Palate is light body, creamy, with average carbonation.
