Bell's Roundhouse IRA

Bell's Roundhouse IRA

Substantial amounts of late-kettle hop additions and dry-hopping yields a heady blend of fruity aromas of pineapple, peach and citrus. Those aromas continue into a crisply bitter hop presence across the tongue, but the judicious use of toasted and caramel specialty malts prevents the hop intensity from overwhelming the palate.

Locally sourced Michigan honey creates a smooth, dry finish that pulls everything together.

The India Red Ale style is a variation on the IPA, but with more caramel and toasted malt character and a reddish hue.

Roundhouse was first brewed at our original brewery in downtown Kalamazoo in 2009.

3.6 Draft. Amber/orange body with a frothy off-white (red-tinted) head. Enticing aroma of citrus, orange juice, grapefruit, raspberry, toasted grain, pineapple, bread. The flavor is moderately sweet and lightly bitter. It finishes lightly to moderately sweet and lightly to moderately bitter. Medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation. Sweet, fruit taste to start, light lingering bitterness to finish. Clean and different. Enjoyable.
3.7 12 oz can from Growlers to Go, Short Pump, VA The ale poured a clear amber color with an off white head and lacing. The aroma of caramel malts is quickly detected. Nice ale. The higher ABV adds to the overall experience. The ale has a medium body with average carbonation. The taste has some complex grapefruit and spices. The honey helps to smooth out the edges, The finish has some pine resin in the upper mouth January 2018 Enjoyed another one. Nice ale! I am sticking with my past rating.
4.2 It was a little bit boring, but it was also delightfully easy to drink. It made it really a viable option for easy drinkin during a summer day
3.9 Nice amber pour, finger tan head. Nose is deep resinous pine and soft fruit. Bitter. Middle is roasted malt, caramel, pine, and kiwi. Finish is oily on the tongue, with a pleasant lasting bitterness.
3.5 Tropical fruits, mango, mango peel, bitter orange, sweet grain malts, caramel. Clear, dark brown, small, creamy, beige head. Light sweet. More sweet, candied tropical fruits, grain malts, caramel, straw, light floral notes, grass, soft carbonation, medium bodied. Alright. Keg at GABF17, Denver.
3.4 Pours medium red with a crisp aroma of hops and tropical fruit. Unfortunately, the aroma is the best part of the beer. medium mouthfeel with a flat hop taste, some sweetness at the end, would be best served ice cold, which is odd for a red, tap.
4.0 Pours a red brass color, light beige head, frothy and resilient. Outstanding look! Aroma is a basket of citrus and rustic grain, some sweet pine. The nose is fun. A bit of a drop off on the palate... Not as complex as expected. Pretty well balanced, caramel malts, grapefruit.... Pleasantly bitter finish with creamy edges. A good beer.
2.8 Clear, vibrant, rusty brown with an off white meringue head. 12oz can reminds me of a Georgia Thumper grasshopper (http://bit.ly/2kOF4jk) Woody, tannic, fermented palmetto, malt aroma -- not inviting. Sweet, parched, slightly toasted, slightly astringent, mossy. Aftertaste is clingy, astringent and awkward. Meh, meh, meh. Market Square Liquors, Tallahassee.

3.5 12oz can. Poured a copper color with an off white head. Fruits, caramel, and some lighter citrus.
3.5 12-ounce can pours hazy copper with creamy light tan head and lacing. Aroma: brown sugar, pine. Flavor: malt-forward (brown sugar, caramel, honey), pepper, pine. Mouthfeel: medium-bodied.
3.1 Smells like a Citrusy ipa, pretty strong hops bitterness...some dark malt taste too...little too bitter for me now though...some coffee maybe? Strong flavor but pretty one dimensional
4.5 Poured from a can into a pint glass. Exciting mixture of tropical fruit, dried plum, and malty sweetness hits the nose. Unfiltered orange-red-mahogany hue with a thin, white head is seen. Fantastic flavor that reminds me of a winter warmer is present, but the senses are confused with pine and tropical notes. The honey smooths the finish, but the taste of honey is not overwhelming. Incredibly unique brew that stands alone from other IPAs. Cheers!
3.8 12 oz can..cloudy copper with yellow head. Pine aroma. Full mouth feel, dry cloying hop flavor. Well balanced full of flavor.
3.8 On tap @ Radio Maria. Red-orange, creamy off white head that retains nicely. Melon and papaya, some cooked pineapple, medium sweetness and medium bitterness. Nice and soft, very easy to drink.
3.5 Clear, copper color. Medium-sized, yellowish head . Caramel malt, honey and pine in aroma . Malt is on front in taste, with strong enough hoppy bitterness to balance.
3.4 Can. hazy red-amber color with tan head. Aroma notes of caramel malt sweetness, fruity hops and light pine. Taste adds more resin/pine, toffee, honey, bread, grapefruit and black tea. Medium-heavy body, low-moderate carbonation, sticky, dry with caramel fruity finish.
3.4 A very nice IPA. Pours red and has a light sweetness to it. Lots of tropical fruits and citrus and an aggressive bitterness.
3.5 It wasn’t great at first - maybe I didn’t score a super fresh one - but I grew to like it. A dash of caramel. Fairly muted hops - grass and pine - and you have to search for traces of the honey, but there is some in the finish. A good IPA.
4.0 Pours a clear dark reddish orange color with off-white colored head. Light fruits, pine, and a caramel maltiness on the nose; follows onto the palate. Full bodied. Finishes with light fruit, little pine and nice malt backbone.
4.0 Can - Pours a deep amber with large soapy off-white head. Aroma of citrus fruits, dark fruit, pine, hay and biscuit. Flavors of citrus fruits, dark fruits, cantaloupe, some mild vanilla, biscuit, and a decent balance of hops to malt for an IPA. Delicious.
3.9 Rated on 11-25-2016 at Black Dog Pub, Fort Wayne, IN. (Draft) The appearance is a tan head that is fully lasting, amber transparent body, no carbonation observed, and a good amount of lacing. The aroma presents citrus hops, grassy, fruity, and earthy. The flavor is bitter, citrus hops, fruity, and very grassy. The mouthfeel is moderate-heavy carbonation and this beer is medium-full bodied. A very good tasting beer as it comes together very well. It is worth trying and is a beer that I would definitely drink again.
4.2 B. Pours a dark amber color with khaki head. Very malty, but well balanced.
3.7 amber color; citrusy, fruity hop aroma with toasted malt notes; lots of fruity, citrusy hops in the flavor with tropical fruit notes; taosted malt with light caramel notes and just a hint of sweetness
3.7 Super crisp ruby and deeply bronze and browned body with a large, five centimetre tall tan head. Aroma of alcohol, bright earthy hops, toffee, grass, floral notes and quite a bit of toffee and caramelised sugars. Medium-bodied; Assertive toffee and earthy flavours at first with the malt hitting hard, then turning hoppy and bitter with the grass and flowers then showing some light sweetness from caster sugar and then some caramel. Aftertaste is rich and all over the place, ranging from earthy to bitter from hops to sweet - nice and robust. Overall, a nice beer for the stye style and a tightly packed Red hued IPA with a distinctly earthy flavour and a lot of caramelised notes. I sampled this twleve ounce can purchased from Total Wine in Alexandria, Virginia on 15-November-2016 for US$2,64 sampled at home in Washington on the day my Red Wings play the Washington Capitals on 09-February-2017.
3.6 Aroma is tropical fruit, citrus, rye, pine, very good. Appearance is amber brown, light tan head, clear. Taste is rye, spice, citrus, tropical fruit, pine, dry. Mouthfeel is light to medium body, light carbonation, spicy rye and citrus aftertaste. Overall, solid.
3.7 I don’t taste the honey it promises, but the hoppiness of this beer is one that I can tolerate. It’s got a kick, as is expected, but it’s not so over-the-top that it’s not enjoyable. It’s strong, but it levels out and it’s definitely drinkable, even if it’s hoppier than I’d usually like.
3.8 12 oz can pours amber with a off white head. Aroma of honey, tropical fruit and citrus. Taste of caramel, honey and a nice bitterness
3.7 Curious brew, unexpectedly toasted and rich, with a deep caramel-biscuit sweetness set against insane hop fruitiness. Hits a tropical fruit salad note then grows a honeybun decadence before fading out with a firm hoppy bite. Tasty.
3.7 Pour from a 12z can. Deep reddish amber brew with great persistent head. Aroma of caramel malt, citrus and tropical fruit. Taste is notable malt up front, great hoppy flourish emerging in the middle and toward the end. Ends dry but smooth, you can taste the honey a few seconds after the swallow. Hops are crisp - cirtus, a little fruit and floral. A nicely balanced brew with strong malt backbone that retains a lively and agile hops profile. Should have picked up some of this sooner.
