3.7Sampled at the brewery. Black with a nice beige head. Appearance is somehow a cut above typical. A big coffee aroma. The flavor begins with rich coffee. This is earthy and sumpy (?). This has a sourness to it that is just a little off putting. The beer is generally sweet and almost syrupy. A bit of citrus at the finish. Nice.
4.2Creamy smooth stout. Nose is coffee and malt. Taste is creamy coffee with minimal hops. Very easy drinking.
3.7Tap at brewery
Pours black with barely any head. Nose is hugely roasty lots of coffee. Flavors exhibit the same but it’s a tad sour. Not infected just think it’s the malt and maybe water issues. Still it’s pretty solid but lacks a good body. Love the char on this.
2.9Dark brown pour. Nose is vegetal, prunes, some stale coffee. Taste is stale coffee with a ton of sugar poured in, prunes, chocolate, sweet rotten fruit. Mouthfeel is initially sticky, then light and spritzy.
3.6Good basic stout. Malt and toast. Coffee very prominent. A very good stout. Malt forward.
3.6Bottle courtesy of "Mr. Plumpy". Colour...basically black with a thin tan head. Nose...very heady coffee aromas. Palate...whew! Cold brewed coffee with a bit of ethanol. There’s a tangy aspect to this and some fruity notes ( perhaps the type of beans). The finish is semi dry.
3.0355ml bottle. Brown pour, large head. Aroma is coffee and earth. Falvor is sweet with coffee tones, nuts, spice, low body, weird that it is so highly rated.
2.4Bottle. 42F. Tulip glass room temp. The stout pours with visable body and develops its milk chocolate head slowly. Head disapates quickly (2 min.) and then maintains a ring. Aroma is reminiscent of caramel candies. The stout is very roasty, essence of chocolate, but like the head disapates off of the tounge quickly and leaves an earthy/soil flavor. No noticeable foward flavor, most flavor is at the middle and back of the palate. I was hoping for more with this stout, the body was low and the flavor was fleeting.
3.7Very carbonated feel and sweet finish. Strong roasted malt notes and some nuttiness. Pours black with a thin reddish brown head. Had a bottle pour at hole. Came in beer of the month
3.312 oz Bottle from The Bent River Brewing This was one of the beers sent each month form AOPD. the stout pored a pitch black with small tan head that quickly dissipated. The strong aroma of earthy burnt malt and coffee greet you. The stout had a thin body and very soft carbonation. Some chocolate is evident in the taste, Very average stout, needs more body. the finish was clean and weak.
3.4On tap. Pours black with a quickly dissipating brown head. Aroma is of chocolate, alcohol, coffee, and roasted malt. Taste is of chocolate, coffee, and brown sugar. Backbone of roasted malt. Lingering bitter chocolate taste. Mouthfeel is very carbonated, and slightly creamy. Body is light, but not thin. Goes down very easy. Not bad, and it drinks easy.
4.0Poured from bottle into a pint glass
Appearance – The beer pours a nearly pitch black color with a two finger head of a tan colored foam. The head fades moderately quickly to leave a light level of foamy lace on the sides of the glass.
Smell – The aroma of the beer is big of a roasty smell mixed with a good showing of a coffee aroma. Along with these smells comes some lighter notes of a caramel and vanilla sweetness as well as a little bit of a crème and an oatmeal like aroma. Overall the aroma, while not a powerhouse, is rather pleasant and inviting.
Taste – The taste begins with a blend of sweet and roast with the sweet being predominantly of a caramel and toffee flavor but having a little bit of chocolate mixed within. From the start there is a light coffee flavor which grows in intensity as the taste moves on. There is also a good showing of an oatmeal flavor up front which actually dwindles as the taste moves on. While the oatmeal falls, flavors of a vanilla sweetness and some more grainy tastes take its place. With all the transitions that occur on the tongue toward the end, one is left with a rather sweet and smooth roasty coffee flavor to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is a little thicker for a stout of only 5.4 % abv with a carbonation level that is on the lower side. For the dark, sweet, and coffee flavors of the brew the feel is rather well done as it makes for a robust feel for all the rich roasty and dark flavors.
Overall – A rather decent oatmeal coffee stout that isn’t overly potent in alcohol. This will make for a rather nice sipping brew in the cooler weather I am sure.
3.4Had at the Gman, bottle .. . Pours a dark brown .. Mild foam aspects.. Dark cocoa and sweet bark ., mouth is mild, solid easy finish .. Nothing crazy but decent .. . He’s bent he is. Tosser
4.5It’s hard to go wrong with Bent River. That being said, this stout smells like.. you guessed it, chocolate and coffee. Pours a dark brown color, with a tan head. Has a deep rich taste with the coffee flavors surprisingly held back and not overpowering. A damn good beer.
4.8One of my all-time favorite draft beers. An absolute must whenever I visit Quad Cities are.
3.4Black with a tan head. Lots of coffee and roast malt in the aroma with some chocolate and smoke. The flavor has the same with a sweet start. It has a silky feel and a nice aftertaste.

5.0This is by far the best coffee stout I have ever had!! It is not a heavy stout so it does not fill you up and give you that bloated feel. It has a great aroma and just the right amount of coffee to make the perfect coffee stout.
3.6Rich stout with a hint of coffee.
3.8Draft at brewery. Pours dark brown with thin off white head. Nose and taste are straight up coffee and some bitterness. A tiny bit of malt sweetness.
3.712 oz bottle pours black with a tan head. Aroma of roasted malts, coffee and chocolate. Taste is coffee and malts.
3.9Bottle at home, gifted from Steve N. Aroma of toasted pecans, bitter iced coffee, char. Light to medium bodied. Flavors of coffee, almost burnt nuts, slightly lactic palate, with a tannic, bitter finish. High drinkability, really good.
3.8Bottle via Patrick. Pours a medium brown, little bit of tan head. Aroma nutty, coffee-forward, with oatmeal interlaced. Body medium-thin, roasty character. May have been a little past it age-wise, but a nice little beer.
3.6Pours a rich, dark brown with a medium tan head, moderate lacing. Aroma is a pleasing roast malt and coffee. Taste is of medium bitterness with a hint of sweetness. Surprisingly, the beer is light and only slightly milky and soft. Overall, the beer is quiet enjoyable. I would prefer more body but it is still satisfying.
2.9Enjoyed a sample at my buddy's place. Appearance is moderate pitch black with an off white head. Aroma is really good, strong espresso notes, fudge, chocolate, good stuff. Taste is acidic, huge coffee notes, but overall I think it burns from the acidity. Not a fan.
3.3Bottle. Strong earthy coffee and light chocolate malt aroma. Dark brown with moderate tan head. Strong bittersweet coffee grounds and light toffee malt flavor. Body a bit light. Okay but not much beyond the coffee.
3.2Pours black with tan head. Aroma is milky and smooth with Java notes. Flavor is rounded with a slightly tart effervescence
3.6Bottle:
Nearly black with a short tan head.
Coffee, fudge aroma.
Carbonated, dark roast coffee flavour.
Solidly done...not complex, just a very straightforward coffee stout.
Very good.
3.2The beer is average. It is too bitter for me. Possibly the barley is the reason I think it is just okay.
2.6Bottle in Breckenridge with my Dad. Pour is deep brown with a small tan head and good lacing. Huge over roasted coffee, somewhat buttery, brown sugar, malty, bready, husky and caramelly aroma. Taste is huge coffee, green pepper, weird butterscotch, bread, husky, twangy homebrew. Thin body with high carbonation. Tons of off flavors and way too thin of a body.
