3.4Interesting brew with a good build up but it lacked living up to its extremely promising potential. It should have been much better than it actually was.
3.7Black with a tall tan head. Aroma is coffee and roasted malts with some vanilla and light earth tones. Medium creamy body. Flavor follows the aroma with a higher amount of noticeable vanilla, but not annoyingly so- this is not a vanilla porter, thankfully. Good balance of sweetness with coffee.
3.7A rather nice porter that isn’t over the top but doesn’t disappoint in any way either. Light coffee roast in both the aroma & throughout the taste. Has a pretty soft mouthfeel & overall is quite good!
4.0Enjoyed on tap at Thirsty First in Lowell, MA while on a tour, unfortunately didn’t take tasting notes while I had this, but I remember this being very good, dry, and robust. Would have again.
3.1On tap at Barley House in North Hampton, New Hampshire. Pours opaque black with lacing. Aroma and flavor: caramel, coffee, licorice. Mouthfeel: light-bodied, watery.
3.4Pours a nice brown black from a tap, aroma of light roasted aciic coffee beans is kind of washed out a bit in the mouth, a bit of nuts or chicory or something adding a not unpleasant non-coffee bitterness. Good beer.
4.2Gifted to me luckily, and I’ve passed this by a hundred times. Dark brown pour with mocha head that fades. Aroma is excellent with both coffee and cocoa amid the roast. Flavor is similar and very well done. Just the right amount of coffee where others tend to overdo. Very smooth, never astringent, with creamy mouthfeel and not too thin for relatively low abv. Finishes fairly clean, leaving just a hint of bitter roast to wash away with the next sip.
3.7Pours black with a tan head. Roasted coffee and caramel aroma. Flavor is roasted malt with coffee, sweet caramel, and vanilla. Roasted malt finish.
3.9Bomber from DeBuca’s. Pours out a very dark brown with at lovely frothy tan head. Super rich with roasty-coffee notes. Velvety texture makes this extra special. Delicious!
3.6Growler. Pours amber-brown with a small tan head. Strong coffee aroma. Taste is predominantly coffee with some roasted malt. Medium body. Soft carbonation. Moderately creamy mouthfeel.
3.4On tap at Black Cow, Newburyport. Roasted barley and coffee aroma with some faint pine and earthy hops. Murky dark brown under a persistent, light brown blanket. Sweet mocha and bitter coffee liquor flavour with a balance towards sweet. Medium full body, slightly warming, smooth, moderate carbonation (on nitro).
3.6Cola color pour. Tan head. Aromas of coffee, some dark fruits, sort of tangyness. Light on the coffee and light on the roast.
3.8Split bomber from Tavour. Good balance of bittersweet coffee...nutty, roasted malts and light caramel and chocolate. Flavor and nose match. lightly bittersweet finish as well.
4.1On tap at Cork N Keg (Nitro version). Aroma is light roasted malts and coffee, subdued somewhat by large head. Appearance is attractive 2 finger-width off-white creamy head on top of opaque black liquid. Taste is as aroma--light-to-moderate roasted malt and coffee--not overpowering. Palate is medium bodied with creamy texture, soft carbonation and balance of lightly bitter and sweet finish. Overall, really enjoyable across the board.
3.2Dark copper, clear, no lace. Medium to full body, moderate flavor, subdued, dilute mouthfeel with avg heat, carbonation and length. Bitter, crisp and dry. Hoppy, roasty, chocolate, coffee, burnt sugar, hint of madeira wine. Pleasant.
3.7On tap at the Thirsty Moose (NH) with Patty. Pours a deep black body with off white lacing. Aroma is coffee grinds and light cocoa. Mouthfeel is medium to light with notes of bitter roast, earthy coffee grounds, cocoa, chalky and light sweet chocolate notes.
3.5Nice smooth coffee, and a lot of it. Light roast. Somewhat sweet. Drinking side by side with a black coffee on ice. Rather light body, not quite watery, but its bordering on it. Thx johnnnniee! Enjoyed while switching back and forth between Blues playoff and Miami Vice TV Show.
3.3Backlogged to have a good #700. Pours brown/black with minimal tan head Aroma is roasted malts with tons of cold coffee. Flavor is chocolate, and again, coffee. Coffee is the hero here for sure. Not too bad of a body on it for a lower abv porter. Not great, but not bad. A good coffee porter.
3.4Coffee and some dark chocolate. Roast. Pours black with great head and lacing. Bitter finish. Tap at Armsby Abbey.
4.8This has been and still is my favorite porter ever. It’s awesome. Nice dark beer with a thick caramel head. Smells of mocha. Tastes smooth with nice strong hints of coffee and chocolate. Nice velvety texture on the palate. This is an awesome beer!
3.7Bottle. Dark brown pour with a big mocha head. Coffee, vanilla, milk, oat. Medium body. Nice carbonation. Sweet bitter finish.
2.7APPEARANCE - dark and appealing. Thin head with moderate lacing that is gone in flash.
NOSE - definitely the highlight of this beer. First scent is great, but the alure fades as I continue to imbibe. Roasty malt and scents of coffee.
FLAVOR - some coffee, some roasted malt and surorisibly bitter for this style. Unlike a lot of its coffee porter/stout cousins, it’s not terribly smooth.
4.6Massachusetts best kept secret because although I love sam Adams the berkshire brewing company is the top beer of MA. The taste is a strong bitter but good bitter beer. Very toasty and has a smooth finish you cannot beat this beer. Coming to Springfield MGM casinos in 2017 go visit springfield and enjoy this remarkable beer in MA.
3.4Bottle from Western Mass gas station. Pours black with a thin khaki head. Leaves a lot of lacing in the glass. not much on the nose. the coffee is a bit thin for my tastes though it’s fairly forward. There’s some solid roasted notes as well. finishes clean. I think I prefer the Drayman’s without the coffee add.
3.9Nice beer, very dark color but not a heavy taste, a bit of a coffee taste but not overpowering, I think a 22 ounce size?
3.5On tap pours the part, darker hue with ruby edges, cream colored head. Roasted coffee, slight smoke, slight sweetness. Light to medium body.
3.8I had this on tap at the Tap Room just outside Beacon Hill in Boston. Wonderful coffee tastings porter Ridge dark delicious. A super nice surprise and is a definite on my must have list.
3.5Not bad. Pours dark with a thick tan head. Aroma is coffee and malt. Flavor of coffee with hints of dark chocolate.
4.016 fl. oz. on tap @ The Lower Depths. Pours very dark amber with a medium thick and creamy head. Aroma is roasted malts and coffee beans. Flavor is roasted malts, coffee and some alcohol. Smooth. Nice.
4.0Bottle from Meditrina. BB 4/7/15! It’s fresh! Dark dark brown with lasting tan head and lace. Slightly noisy pour. Coffee and dark chocolate aroma with some wet leafy woods. Dark chocolate coffee mocha sweetness with subdued fruit roasted coffee and woody bitterness. Medium body. Very complex and flavorful, but still sessionable like a good porter should be. Excellent.
