3.4 tap at parker pie, vermont. very dark brown pour, red tint, with a small creamy light beige head, some retention and lacing. dark roastiness, coffee, lactose, dusty non-yeasty presence, not quite ashy, hint of phenols, some dark fruits. moderate carbonation, light body - silky, short grassy and slightly mineral/ashy finish. o-k.
3.4 On tap @ Parker Pie. Dark reddish brown with a medium beige head and heavy lacing. Aroma is of roasted malt and vanilla with a major sweet/milky presence. Taste is about the same with liquorice and caramel. Medium body. Good carbonation. Silky mouthfeel. Ok/good Porter, but too milky and not really complex.
2.8 Had this on draft at the Pumpkin Festival. Very good as always. Just can’t go wrong with Berkshire Brewing!
3.6 Growler. Pours very dark brown/black with a decent brown head that leaves nice lacing. Aroma is roasty, toasty malts that are mirrored in its taste. Mildly bitter with notes of toffee, molasses, a bit of oak and floral hops. Average carbonation and bitter finish. Quite nice.
3.9 GCB: Near perfect heavy porter. Roasted toasted, and full. My type of beer.
3.5 Plenty smooth and not very smoky for a porter. Very fine aroma of coffee, woodsmoke, and a dash of floral hops. Drayman’s is medium-bodied and malty, with some chocolate notes, definitely not one of those grab-you-by-the-lapels kind of porters. An enjoyable brew, like most of BBC’s releases.
3.5 Poured from a large bottle into a trumpet glass to drink. The beer had a full wet black body with a deep brown hue and an average-sized foamy dark tan head that had shorter retention and light cling with average lacing. Its aroma had a heavy roasted malt presence with toffee and chocolate-coffee blend, along with some oak, and touches of grainy and floral hops. It had a rich, roasty malt taste with light sweetness and a mild bitterness, featuring tones of chocolate and coffee, and some lighter grainy, earthy, and oak tones. The beer had a filling mouthfeel which was fairly thick, and a slightly creamy and dry body with lower carbonation and life.
3.6 Growler shared at craft ale house. Pours reddish brown with minimal head. The aroma Is roasty with light coffee. The taste is bitter coffee with a dry finish. Medium body.
3.2 22 oz. bottle. Pours a dark brown color with reddish highlights and a medium sized beige head. The aroma is roasted malts, chocolate, herbal hops with tart fruits at the edges. The flavor is roasted malts, chocolate, herbal and earthy hops with light tart fruit notes. I wonder how old this was since the tart fruits seemed out of place.
4.4 I love the flavor. Smooth with a chocolate taste. Full bodied. Easy to drink. Heavy but not thick.
4.1 Got this at the Bennington Co-Op. Pours dark with minimal head. Really drinkable! Malty and earthy. Straight forward porter that actually tastes like a porter and not a light stout. Drink this!
3.6 Bomber from Whole Foods Market, Darien, CT. Pours a clear dark reddish brown color with a large frothy tan head. Good head retention. Aroma of roasted malts, floral hops and a bit of chocolate. The taste is chocolate, green apple, roasted malts, nutty notes and mild hops. Medium bodied, quite drinkable.
3.0 September 30, 2011 with blankboy, garthicus, gregclow, jerc and mabel. My bomber. Clear opaque reddish/brown with a smallish tan creamy/frothy head. Fruity and herbal aroma, some alcohol, a bit sour actually - only medium roast, although it’s nice and biscuity. Taste is mild, roast, less alcohol and sourness - a little thin. Weak carbonation and pretty forgettable.
3.9 On Cask at Cask Republic in New Haven Pours very dark, almost black with a very loose & small but very well retained head that leaves some lacing on the glass. The aroma is roasty with some berries & earthiness. The beer isn’t overly coffee-esque but the roastiness certainly harkens to that tune. The flavor is roasty in a coffee kind of way with a good level of bitterness all around, some dark chocolate and mild leafy hops. Not as fruit forward in flavor as it is in aroma, but that’s fine. This is a very straightforward and very delicious example of this style. Hot Damn that is some fine porter.
3.6 Poured from bottle Deep Brown color with ruby highlights. Solid two finger tan head with plenty of lacing. Aroma was sweet and compelx. Plenty of roasted and chocolatey notes, as well as a linger nose of hops. The hops didn’t give off a very unique nose but did a nice job of balancing out the malts. Flavor was full of chocolate with enough bitterness from the hops to not have it feel over whelming. Fun to drink, but felt a little chewy going down. Sweetness is long lasting in the aftertaste and slowly dies down leaving a slight bitter taste in the end. A nice complex porter that balance sweet and bitter very well.
3.2 Bottle at Chriso’s Fullers-Gales tasting, thanks to Leighton. It pours deep ruby-brown, with a thick beige head. The nose is sulphur, egg, roasted malt, charcoal and chocolate. The taste is chocolate, salted caramel, cola, roasted malt, tangy fruit, blueberry and blackberry, with a sweetish finish. Medium body, moderate carbonation and foamy mouth-feel. Interesting but tanginess and some sulphur on the nose suggest that this is not on its top form (I hope anyway).
3.3 Bottle I brought to chriso Vintage Tasting. Pours brown with a sturdy, beige foam head. Dusty cocoa and roasted malts in the nose. Lightly tangy cocoa and dark malts in the flavor, some mild leaves. Medium bodied with fine to average carbonation. Sweet finish, some more light cocoa, though with this tanginess I don’t think this is top condition. Will try again sometime.
3.7 On cask at Mead Hall with cacao nibs and chilies. Seemed very intriguing but failed my expectations. Not a lot going on in terms of chili but there was a tad more chocolate then I was expecting. Decent.
3.6 Bottle from Jeffs house. Aroma and flavor of chocolate, roasted malts, and coffee. Also a good bit of sweetness.
3.5 Pours black with a think off white head. General roasted porter aroma. The flavor though is very sweet for a porter, almost tastes like red vines. Smooth finish.
3.9 Bottle from nh. Dark brown pour. Roasted malt aroma, coffee. Very sweet coffee flavor. Slightly smoky.
3.5 Bottle [660ml] shared with HogTownHarry, garthicus, jerc & mabel -- c/o HogTownHarry. Pours ruby-brown with a large mostly-lasting frothy beige head. Aroma of roasted malt and chocolate. Flavour of roasted malt, light leafy hops, chocolate and a hint of coffee. Medium bodied. Simple but pretty good.
3.1 [4015-20110930] 1pt6floz bottle. Lightly smoked and roasted meat aroma. Dark red-hued black body with a quick foamy off-white head. Toasted grainy wood flavour. Medium-full body. Average. (6+/3/6/3/13) 3.1 (c/o HogTownHarry, w/ him, blackboy, garthicus, GregClow, jerc)
4.0 Aroma is of day old coffee and burnt chocolate, but a pretty good smell. Appearance is very dark brown with a finger laced tan head. Taste is chocolate and burnt malt flavor with a good balance. The carbonation is light, and is a smooth drink. Overall this is very good, and a tasty porter.
3.1 2011-09-30. Very dark brown-black body with a small tan head that fades. 3+ Sweet Ovaltine-hot chocolate like aroma. 6+ Average bodied palate. Flavour is sweet, malty with cocoa and Ovaltine like notes. 6+ Simple, okay. Bottle shared by HogTownHarry
3.4 Thanks to HogTownHarry. Appearance: Pitch black, small yellow head, Aroma: Milky, nutty, chocolate, with cherry too. Flavour: Cherry, blackcurrant, chocolate, truffle, thin body with a long bitter finish.
3.4 Draft from Monster B’s in Stamford, CT. This is a smooth porter with a soft, fluffy body that has a mostly clean, roasted flavor. Not a perfect porter, as its only flaw is its slight syrupy feel.
4.4 Pours black with ruby edges and a large, tight, tan brown head. Smells strongly roasted with some chocolate notes underneath. Tastes mostly like roasted malts with some chocolate underneath. Full-bodied with smooth texture and soft mouth-carbonation, Berkshire Drayman’s Porter finishes with some roasted dryness.
3.5 (bomber from Cletus, sampled 6/22/10). Dark brown color. Large tan head. Moderate roasted coffee aroma and flavor, with light sweet chocolate. Avg duration. Smooth finish. Creamy texture. Moderate carbonation. Good lacing.
3.0 Bottle shared by alexsdad06. Poured black color with an average frothy brown head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Moderate dark chocolate aroma. Medium body with a dry smooth texture and flat carbonation. Medium sweet flavor with a medium sweet finish of moderate duration. Soft brew.
