2.7 APPEARANCE – super light golden color. Very white head dissipates quickly, but laces glass nicely. NOSE – ever so slight hop spiciness (grassy). FLAVOR – very light indeed. Refreshing on a hot day, but not a lot of interesting flavor to it. NOTES – Good replacement for a macrobrew if you want to support the local economy, or get your friend off MCB.
3.4 Crisp Clean. One of the pioneers of western mass craft brewing. If you like European Lagers this beer is more than acceptable.
3.3 Location: 12 oz can from Nikki’s Liquors, 4/6/15 Aroma: The aroma is bready malts, with some herbal and spice notes. Appearance: It pours an unclear gold-orange color with a sheeting white head and mid-heavy lace. Flavor: The taste is similar, bready malts, lightly sweet, spice and herbal light bitterness. Palate: The body is light-medium, fairly clean, average carbonation, and a lightly dry finish. Overall Impression: This is decent. Not something I’d rush out for again, but a decent offering none-the-less.
2.9 Bottle from Winooski Beverage Warehouse. Aroma: cereals, fruits (orange, grapes?), spices, grass. App: hazy straw with small white head. Taste and palate: light body, oily, watery, light sweetness, light bitter finish. Overall: a boring pale ale, not complex, body too thin, not enough bitter, not enough malty.
2.9 Light and refreshing, with a strong, fruity aroma but not a whole lot of flavor to go with. Light Amber colored and smooth.
2.8 Small taste from a can @ Bauer Wine & Spirits. Pours clear golden with a medium head. Aroma is slightly fruity malts. Flavor is slightly sweet and fruity malts. Basic, but good.
3.2 Draft. Pours gold with a white head. Fruity base, lighter bitterness, sweet candy malts, and mild citric undertones. Not bad.
2.8 Draft at world if beers In Stamford . Pale yellow color with a light head. East drinking pale ale drinking beer
2.5 Hazy golden colour. Light bodied, some caramel aroma. Malty, bready flavour
3.8 Transfer from BA review on 8-1-12 - Served on tap in a pint glass Appearance – Pours a lightly hazed golden color with a two finger white head. The head fades relatively fast to leave a moderate level of lacing. Smell – The aroma is sweet with strong notes of a caramel and butterscotch nature. Mixed with this is a lightly roasted bready aroma as well. Taste – A sweet malty flavor greets the tongue. The biscuit flavored maltiness is mixed with a heavy dose of caramel. As the flavor advances on, the roasted flavor begins to lose their strength, with flavors of butterscotch and light fruits as well as hoppy flavor (which is quite light) working their way into the flavor profile. The taste finishes leaving a rather satisfying flavor to linger on the tongue. Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is on the average side with the carbonation level that is very appropriate. Both good and tasty. Overall – A very easy to drink and quite enjoyable brew. One to try if you get a chance.
3.0 Bottle. Light yellow gold pour with a big head that dissipated quickly. Caramel covered cereal, spice, citrus juicy, herb and lemon peel. Spicy carbonation. Medium body with crisp cool bubbly finish. Nice beer on a warm day
4.0 I really like this beer. It tastes really good for the price, and it is a solid beer from a solid company. Anyone who dislikes this beer doesn’t know the riddle of steel.
2.3 can. pours hazy almost cloudy with a small white head, little retention and shy lacing. sweetish honeyed malts, spicy cereals, faint citrus, bit of booze - sort of like cheap imperial lager/pils, fusel, faint fruitiness - grapey, malt liquor, honey-like sweetness. moderate carbonation, light body - oily and almost sticky (!), semi-sweet bland herbal-grassy finish. weak stuff - offensive by its macro imperial lager booziness and sweetness.. DP.
3.9 Orange yeast aroma. One finger head on top of a hazy yellow body with a tinge of amber. Peppery smooth on the tongue. Touch of sourness with a clean finish that is refreshing. This one is nice surprise and would be glad to have again.
2.3 For a beer labeled as an "extra pale ale" this one is very smooth yet full of flavor. Would taste good in the afternoon hanging out on the deck.
3.7 I love this beer on a hot summer day or evening, it really quenches my thirst at a super reasonable cost. It’s a very fresh, light, and simple pale ale that goes down smooth one after another and leaves the palate clean and citrusy.
2.9 Pour: light golden color with white head Nose: grain Tongue: fizzy and slick Taste: very malty, slight bitterness
2.9 22oz bottle pours a hazy gold with some spitty, white head. Nose doesn’t have much, orange floral, honey, metal. Flavor is the same, some chrysanthemum, honey, orange, lemon. Watery finish.
3.7 Pours a hazy yellow and smells of hops and some citrus. This malty apa is very smooth with hints of citrus and not very bitter , one of my favorite ales
2.5 Bottle. Thin head with not much lacing. Thin watery body, lightly bitter, average carbonation with a watery finish.
2.5 Bottle. This is a really thin and watery brew that I did not like too much.
3.1 bottle from mrnightshoe pours gold with a quick foam head. nose of crackers. light whisping bitterness and a quick citrus finish. body is thin, but makes it easy drinking.
2.7 Had this on tap and liked it, however, when I bought a 6 of cans, it was disappointing. I guess, as advertised, it is an American Pale Ale, not really a style I’m in love with. Bland and mediocre, it is one jump ahead of the many mass produced American Adjunct brews, being more full bodied and flavorful than most.
3.0 Bottle. Orange, melon, and quinine aroma. Hazy golden yellow with small head. Sweet orange/melon malt and mildly bitter herbal/orange peel flavor. Pretty tasty but not like a typical APA.
2.2 Very very underwhelmed. Pale yellow draft pour with a small white head. Not too bad of an aroma, but mostly malts which ain’t a good sign for an APA. Tastes far more like a cheap macro lager than any APA I’ve ever had, lots of sweet malts and just a little bit of bittering hops. Very thin body and mouthfeel, again with an adjunct lager aftertaste. Had to ask the waitress if this was the Steel Rail just to confirm I got the right glass!
3.1 Bottle courtesy of AirForceHops. Biscuity malt and light fresh fruity hops aroma. Cloudy golden yellow with a large white head. Sweet malt and fresh citrusy floral hops flavor. Light body, lively carbonation. Very easy drinking on a hot humid day. The hops are very restrained coming across as fresh and fruity, but not really bitter.
3.8 Pours a clear gold with slight white head. Malt/Hop is more to the malt side, clear crisp taste, light to medium body, solid beer. Had this in bombers, growlers and on tap, never disappionted.
3.2 Tap at Max Burger, Longmeadow, 18/05/13. Very lightly hazed pale golden with a thin white head. Nose is pale malt, grass, citrus, light hops. Taste follows. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, crisp finish with a little bitterness. Ok drinkable affair if a little unforgettable.
2.2 Bomber. Pours slightly hazy golden/yellow with a thick white head that fades quickly. Light aroma citrus with light coffee notes. Flavor citrus with slightly carbonated and light body. Not my fav type of beer. Finish is long and smooth but otherwise eaves little to remember it by.
3.4 Bottle. Pours a somewhat anemic straw color with a medium head. Sweet malty aroma of grains, caramel, and a touch of coffee. Flavor has similar components, but more balanced with some hop bitterness. A solid session beer, better than its ratings here would indicate.
