Bert Grant's Mandarin Hefeweizen

Bert Grant's Mandarin Hefeweizen

A Hefeweizen brewed in the American style with a refreshing kick. This easy drinking Hef is a lighter style American Hef with an added touch, the touch of orange. Carefully blended a hint of orange with an American Hefeweizen to produce this light easy drinking ale, perfect match for when you looking for something to satisfy your palate without being overly sweet or overbearing.

2.5 pours a stale urine-amber. lots of carbs at first, but head dissipates very quickly. aroma of citrus and hops. taste is a bit dissappointing. was expecting more of the yeast that usually accompanies hefe beers. leaves a kind of yucky "mandarin’ taste on the palate. Might be better on a hot day, but im pretty sure id rather just eat an orange.
2.1 Its a shame to see a micro go out of business. But its cool you stil come across some bottles every now and then. Pour a clody orange colour with very small head. Nose is citrus and mild floral hops, however it dissapears as qucik as the head. Taste is somewhat mild carbed juice/soda. This stuff would be more refhresing frozen and served on the beach. Citric, artificial mandarin orange flavour. I would agree that it would need more yeast and carb. eh.
2.1 Pours a hazy golden yellow. Aromas of orange, bread, and orange. Flavor is to fruity for me, all I could taste was the orange. Not very good at all.
3.3 Hazy goldenrod with a white cover. Mandarin is obvious in the sweet aroma with malt and some American hops varieties. Not too sweet flavour with a way subtler mandarin character than aroma that mingles interestingly with the hops flavours. Needs more yeast character. Medium body, low carbonation (too low for style), almost clean finish.
2.7 Poured with medium white head, bubbles are a little soapy looking. Head didn’t stick around too long but did see some lacing. Nose is of Apricot and orange, and something else I can’t put my finger (or nose) on. Taste is wheaty, but just a little bitter and a little hint of orange. It is quite watery though. This is not bad, but it’s not good either. Very average beer. I can see a lot of chicks drinking this one though.
2.7 Bottle. Poured a beautiful, cloudy apricot color. 1/4" head that unfortunately dissipated very quickly. Good carbonation though. Subtle orange aroma + malts. You can really recognize the orange flavor in this hefeweizen (still not sure if that’s a good thing or not). Other flavors I picked up are wheat and alcohol. Flavor is mediocre and it’s light on body, but the carbonation gives it a decent mouth feel and it has a clean finish.
2.4 Cloudy golden color, small white head that faded quickly leaving little behind. The aroma is orange maybe some spice in there but mostly orange. The flavor comes off as mostly heavy on the orange wheaty and just plain mild all around from what i was expecting.I guess it has it’s place but it’s nothing worth getting into more then once.Cheap taste and cheap feel.
2.7 Got this one over the summer, finally got around to rating it. Decent aroma of orange. Very light on the pour, almost white. Extremely light body, pretty decent flavor if its cold, but once it warms up it gets a strange grassy aftertaste. Ok in the summer if you put it on ice.
2.8 A delightful summer refresher. Though an entire case was covertly imported into Illinois after a vacation trip through Yakima, a junior member of the cartel was able to wrest only three bottles from the group’s poobah. The distinctive aroma of the Mandarin oranges played nicely against the spicy lemon-like flavor of an iconic Hefeweizen. This beer would be well worth another trip to Yakima.
2.2 (12 oz bottle: Trader Joe’s in Pacific Beach, CA) Pretty much what I expected, a very light wheat beer with mandarin flavoring. It isn’t sweet, and there’s only a slight bit of tartness from the mandarin, and bitterness is kept to a minimum. Very slight wheat in the nose so the light mandarin scent is pretty apparent even though it’s not a very aromatic beer overall. Light bodied, and just kind of lifeless and unstimulating mouthfeel. Medium golden body is a bit cloudy and looks still, maybe a single carbonation bubble rises every ten or so seconds. The whitish head pours small and fades fast to a tiny ring. Totally boring beer with nothing redeeming, so rest assured I won’t be drinking this beer again.
2.5 Very light in color with a slight orangey nose. Flavors of orange up front leading to a very beer finish. OK, but won’t go out of my way to have again.
3.0 Ok orange, mandarine/tangerine sort of flavor, this was alright but could’ve tasted better. Slight orange color, and cloudy.
2.8 Yellow orange color. Tangerine taste on the wheat. Not very oustanding in any manner, but not bad.
2.7 Received as part of a "Mystery Six-Pack." Poured pale - kind of hazy - yellow. A little flowery in the aroma and taste - was overpowered a bit by the tinned mandarin taste.
2.0 Aroma:wheat and madarin.... Appearance:yellow brown,no head... Flavor:madarin and watery ....
2.3 One sip of this and you’ll question your sexuality. This is definitely a beer crafted for girls. The aroma is intensely orange (like extract) and slight wheat. The flavor is like drinking nothing and orange. It is very watery and very unlike a true hefeweizen. The best part about it is a refreshingly pleasant orange aftertaste.
2.8 Very similar to the standard hefeweizen from them except the mandarin oranges seem to do battle on the nose against the lemony textures for dominance. The resulting brew smells like a household cleaner and tastes very bland with some minor citrussy notes on the finish.
3.1 a really original beer but its look it not her good point and she is deceiving by her taste of orange lollipop melted in water. Cause its too watery not enough taste.
2.2 Pours yellow with a small head. Not as cloudy as a hefeweizen could be. Mild orange aroma and flavor. Watery mouthfeel.
3.4 Bottle: No doubt about the mandarin orange in the aroma with light wheat and lighter spice. Pours a hazy dull orange with a small white head. Wow. Lots of mandarin orange. A slight sourness in the finish with a touch of hops. Very little spice in this one. Maybe not a great beer, but very refreshing and I really like the orange in the flavor.
2.7 Cost Cutter Grocers - Bellingham, WA Overpowering orange nose and flavor. Think orange juice beer. It’s really not bad just very atypical and somewhat artificial tasting.
2.7 Poured a medium and clear golden color with an averaged sized white head. Aromas and tastes of light oranges, some spices and maybe some wheat in there. Lightly sour with some malts. Thinner and lighter body.
2.3 Smells good tastes blahh. Very flat and lifeless overall and I like my beers to vut an imposing figure with a big frothy head.
3.0 Pours thin hazy orange/yellow with almost no head. Aroma is spice and orange. Taste is like someone took a hefe and mixed it with an orange soda. Good summer time beer for the chicks.
2.0 I guess I was expecting a surprise here, but it just tasted like a light beer with orange soda poured into it. The first one was interesting, but got worse the more I tasted it.
3.2 Poured a cloudy golden color with a smalish white head. Aroma was wheat malt and orange.. The flavor was of wheat and orange popsicle. This didn’t taste like real orange but did make a good addition to this beer. Very refreshing and easy to drink. Light mouthfeel with good carbonation and little aftertaste
4.0 This was one of the best finds I made when living in Seattle. While I tend to be a purist, living in the Pacific Northwest meant that I had to endure overly hopped IPAs on a regular basis. This beer added a balanced flavour with an interesting twist. I had a friend come and visit me from Seattle and had her carry a 6 pack on the plane for me.
3.1 An interesting beer, Malty with a subtle orange flavor, noticeable malts but falls weak after a few second, still not bad
3.4 Well sure, if you don’t like orangey beers...but I do. Cloudy pale hefe color, distinct orange aroma, flavor of bitter orange and a citrusy bloom with understated yeast, not much hops, this is a good mild nonoffensive beer that I enjoy in the summer when I want something fruity but not sweet. Maybe its "hefe light" but I find it refreshing, especially nice and cold.
2.2 Bottle - Pours out with a thin whitish head. Light amber color with a sharp aroma but not hops just odd orange. The flavor is thin and tastes of children’s cough candies. I was really looking foreword to trying this beer, I even bought a 10 pack assortment at the world market in Spokane WA to get this beer. What a disappointment
