Bevog Baja Oatmeal Stout

Bevog Baja Oatmeal Stout

When creating the recipe for this beer, we bore in mind what one associates with oatmeal. Hence the base was laden with a bunch of oat flakes, roasted malts and roasted barley. The end result reflects this - intensive flavours, a coffee and dark chocolate aroma and a creamy texture. So we would not smother this, we added only as much hops as was needed to delicately balance the flavour.

3.9 Bottiglia. L'olfatto viene stimolato in maniera elevata, permanendo in maniera apprezzabile.
3.8 Pours a pitch-black coloration with a medium, fluffy head. Smells of quite roasted, bready malt and lighter coffee, milk chocolate and hints of herbal hops. Taste is a good balance of quite roasted, bready malt, coffee and lighter milk chocolate, as well as hints of tobacco and herbal hops. Finishes quite dry with a medium bitterness and some roasted malt and coffee lingering in the aftertaste. Smooth mouthfeel with a light/medium body and medium carbonation. A very nice Oatmeal Stout that is very much dominated by a deep, rich roastiness and coffee notes, as well as some lighter, sweet milk chocolate and hint of bitter, herbal hops. While the roastiness may be quite dominant here, which I personally don't mind at all, there's still a good overall balance to this, with some sweet and bitter notes balancing things out nicely, while this retains quite a dry, roasted and bitter character. Perhaps a bit light in body, but really not too bad, with a nice mouthfeel as well.
3.7 Oatmeal stout by this Austrian hit brewer, from a bottle at Huzaar in Ghent. Thickly creamy and dense, regular, yellowish beige, quite stable head on an opaque black beer with very thin burgundy edge. Aroma of black toast, haemoglobin ‘iron’, leather, bitter black chocolate, dry beef stock, coffee grounds, roasted walnuts, cigar ashes, burnt horse steak, dried prunes. Sweetish onset with light sourish edge and subtle beef stock-like umami accent, clean with hints of dried prune, fig and old raisin, rounded and slick body, quite oily; lovely roasted walnutty and burnt toast-like ‘blackness’ in the middle, surrounding a thin bitter-chocolatey core and providing a long, roasty, coffeeish bitter finish filling the mouth, turning even a little bit ashy in the end, accentuated by peppery hop bitterness and some ‘naturally feeling’, blood-like iron. Old-fashioned, quite dry interpretation of oatmeal stout, no redundant ornaments or other frills here, just very solid and easily drinkable. I love a ‘basic’, roasty, well-made stout like this.
3.4 #3742 Cloudy, brown, small off-white head. Aroma of coffee, oats, creamy dessert. Taste is sweet, slightly bitter, dark chocolate, biscuits, cocoa, tiramisu, hints of coffee. Light body, average carbonation. Easy drinkable.

3.5 Black beer, no head. I did expect a fuller taste. There is som syrup, some malt and a lot af cold black coffee. The aftertaste also has some brown sugar but is also some tart green apple. The beer has extreem tastes and as a whole, they make a nice beer but the beer lacks body.
3.9 Bottle. Pour black dark with little whitehead. Aroma barley, malt, chocolate. Taste chocolate sweet leading, not so coffee, medium body, definitely oatmeal, creamy, roasted marshmallow mouthfeel. Light bitterness.
3.5 Black color with beige head. Coffee, chocolate, roasted aroma. Chocolate, coffee, roasted, slightly sour flavor. Intensive earthy, chocolate palate with medium body.
1.8 Strong hints of cocoa, dark chocolate and roasted plums. Less on the coffee side. Pours a very dark brown/black, very little foam. Unfortunately, the batch I had tried had a serious fault - iron scents (rub on skin - smell of rusty nails and blood). Could have been easily avoided. Very disappointed. Although will try another one to check for the fault as I am a huge fan of oatmeal stouts.
5.0 Odlično temno, lahko ampak z okusom.
3.9 Pression 25cl le 18/09/2019. Mousse : Mousse blanche. Liquide : Noir opaque.
3.5 Bottle, 5.8%. Good roasted aroma, a little syrupy and piney with lots of acidic coffee. Almost black colour, seems hazy. Big semi-stable light brown head. The flavour is roasted, slightly papery, not very citric with a late coffee and coffee grounds aftertaste.
3.6 Bottle. Pours cloudy very dark brown with airy but stable light tan head. Clear aroma of malt and coffee, with notes of yeast and touches of dried fruit. Bitter, roasty and hoppy flavour with notes of yeast and oats and touches of malt and coffee. Lingering roasty aftertaste with estery notes and hints of malt.
3.5 Tap at Grand. Jet black pour, thicc beige head. Nose is coffee, earth notes, dark chocolate. Taste is the same, but more moderate altogether. Medium roasty finish, light body, soft carbonation.
3.6 On tap at Hedon Bazilica Tap Room, Budapest. Comes almost black with a small tan head. Aroma of malt, chocolate, and coffee. Taste is roasted malt, dark chocolate, coffee, and a bit of vanilla. Tasty.
3.5 Color negro, opaca. Gusto a malta tostada, regaliz, humo, ligeros café, chocolate negro y ceniza. Cuerpo medio.
Aroma cafe intenso,chocolate negro,frutos secos.Sabor sueve amargor con ligero dulzor,oleosa,cafe intenso,chocolate negro,frutos secos.Equilibrada
3.6 Color negro, opaca.
3.6 Ar: coffee, cocoa, roasted malt Ap: dark brown, minimal head T: med sweetness, coffee, low bitterness P: med-full body
3.8 0,33l bottle from Damian Bottle Shop, Bratislava, Pours dark black liquid, small soapy tan to brown head, Aroma: roasted malts, yeasty, cocoa nibs, malty, Taste: medium sweet, light to medium bitter, light to medium sour, rasoted notes, cocoa, yeast, oats, malty, Palate: light body, soft carbonation, slick mouthfeel, long roasted aftertaste, Overall: quite good, enjoyed.
3.3 Buona non molto carbonata. Note di cacao e caffe
3.8 330ml bottle shared at za razBIRAchi. Pours opaque with a very long-lasting mousse-like head, intense lacing but no rising carbonation after the initial head accumulation. Dark brown in colour. On the nose, coffee, bitter chocolate, burnt toast, vanilla. In the mouth, lower than average carbonation, some dry burnt sourness from the start - but perfectly balanced by receding sweetness and mild bitterness, flavours similar to the aromas, medium texture with a clean finish. Overall, an excellent Stout.
4.1 Bottle. Creamy lightbrown good mostly lasting head. Black colour. Heavy malty and moderate hoppy aroma. Heavy bitter flavor. Long roasted heavy bitter finish. Creamy palate Excellent.
Sehr empfehlenswert.
