Silver medal at Soleure’s extreme beer fest 2007. An extreme black beer whose nose goes toward pepper, vanilla, ashes, tobacco and fresh hops. It reaches the palate all in softness, but quickly becomes intensely bitter, though not very dry. Long and satisfying finish.
This Cuvée was created in the honor of the Jurrassian revolutionist Alex Le Rouge. Enjoy this wonderful Cuvée at about 10°-12° Celsius (50°-53°F), with a crunch of bitter Chocolate or a Cigar. Cuvée Alex Le Rouge can be sequestrated for a few years in a cellar.
4.8Strong and super interesting beer.
3.3Brownish with foamy head. Mixed flavour with fresh hop bitterness and dark malts. Rather gassy and maybe overly hopped for the style.
2.5(∞-herbal, µ-poivré noir, bouche moussue, malt grillé, µ-genièvre, pas extrême, pas vraiment is, pas élégante, strange)
4.5De Labirratorium. Version de 2018. En copa Teku. Viendo The Society 1x05.
3.2Tap (Riga Pours 2019). Black color. Medium size, beige head, stays. Sweet, malty, honey, woody in aroma and in taste. Dry black tea in aftertaste. Solid brew.
3.7Tap at the Riga Pours 2019. Pours black. Aroma and flavor are sweet, bitter, roast, malt, coffee. Overall: very good.
3.9Bue avec Laura et Frank au Bierrevier à Basel. Bière noire au nez café choco. Bouche vineuse. Pruneaux et maderisation. Pas mal du tout
3.8Keg @Riga Pours festival 2019.
Sample.
Dark brown colored brew. Thick white head.
Nutty roasty notes, nice bretta funkyness. Peppery, nutty flavors, balancing funk. Long sweet finish. Solid
3.6The fragrance is unexpectedly weak. It has some coffee, burnt grains and alcohol. Black beer with good brown foam. On the palate comes sweetness and vanilla, which is replaced by burnt grain and hops. The finish is quite sharp and leaves a slight burning sensation in the throat. The body is dense, smooth. Moderate carbonation.
3.6F: big, tanned, average retention.
C: black, opaque.
A: dark malts, chocolate, cocoa, bit vinous, dark dried fruits, coffee, tobacco.
T: dark malts, vinous, chocolate, coffee, cocoa, bit vanilla, spicy, roasted bitter tones, full body, medium carbonation, again another BFM beer where I expected more complexity yet not bad enjoyed, 33cl bottle (Batch 2017; ABV 10,276%) from Tom Beers shop in Geneva.
3.6Pours a deep brown with sudsy khaki colored head. Quite sweet roast malt aroma and taste, a bit sugary like a barleywine.
Notes: on tap at the brewery, Aug ‘18
3.7I thought this had more potential, and was somewhat let down for an IMPY. The dollar off at Whole Foods got me to try this, as I don't think I woulda paid over $6. Pretty much average for an imperial stout, but finding so many from the states why pay extra for anything less than a premium import? Was not super-mud thick and had some brown to the appearance vs. dark black. Maybe the pepper and tea wasn't working for me, as I prefer the more coffee/oatmeal/nutty flavors in my stouts. Still, was interesting to try and can't really complain except anything but the price.
3.7Aged 5 or 6 years. Rich black color under a thin light tan head. Thick roasty black malty nose with molasses and earthy spices and a little more molasses. Rich bright and boozy full flavor that’s smacked around with toasty black malts and molasses and black pepper and cabinet spice tones and a little smokey molasses finish. Weird and dryish but also strong and spiced and somewhat sweet. Not sure what to think about it. It’s definitely unique.
3.4Bottle, 330 ml, courtesy of Max. Shared with him and JFK10000. Pours dark brown with beige head. Roasted malts, chocolate, caramel, light fruit. Sweet. Some bitterness in finish. Bit thin. Medium bodied.
3.4330 ml bottle. Pours black with tall, creamy, beige head and nice lacing. Aroma is of toasted malt, dark fruit, sour dough and some hops. Body is full and slightly crisp. Taste is chocolate, toasted malt, brown sugar, dark fruit, vanilla and herbal hops. Finish is long and dry. So so brew.
4.019-11-17 // bottle sharing in Frankfurt. Clear dark brown. Small beige head. Light creamy mouthfeel. Mild cara malt, more roasted malts. Some coffee, mild vanilla. Quite light.
4.0Batch 2016 bottle from the duty-free shop (hah!) at Basel airport. Near-black with a fine tan foam and a sweet treacle and creamy-yeasty nose reminiscent almost of Hefeweizen if it weren't for the faintly drying note of alcohol. Rich and sweet, yet with a creamy-dry overlay. Notes of cocoa, tar, vanilla and burnt treacle, with hints of pepper and bitter chocolate in the finish. Lovely!
4.4Dark, thick head. Great flavors of dry fruit, malt, Mexican chocolate. Lightly hopped and slightly sweet.

4.0Almost like a smoky biscuit. Vanilla and pepper definitely come through; otherwise, flavours of malt, smoke, chocolate, and nuts. Smells of potpourri, but in an appealing way, not your grandma’s-foyer-sort of way. Like most BFM beers, perhaps not to everyone’s taste and definitely not your typical imp stout, but I’m a huge fan
3.3Bottle. Cloudy dark brown, good foam. Aroma: malt, coffee, caramel, dried fruits, a little ash. Taste: sweet, wild, aspirin, caramel, prunes, dried apples, bitterness, very strange.
2.9Pours with a dark brown body with a thin head with some lacing. It’s smokey with sweet malt notes and a little roast. Medium bodied and smooth.
3.7Fizzy pour. Light body and not intensely black. Light. Very light bodied for the abv. Big creamy head. Malty spikey roasty spicy caramel coffee nose. Seems a growing trend for this lightish spritzy Euro stouts with high ABV. Definitely unique and individual but could do with more density for me.
3.1Spicy coffee-y smell. Attack a bit light but develops a very contained pepper aroma and a too subtle vanilla note, that I won’t have found if I hadn’t read the ingredients. Couldn’t find the russian tea anywhere. Body is definitely not heavy enough for an imperial stout. No finish at all except a very small bitterness and a bit of warmness after 30s, probably due to the spice.
3.2330ml bottle shared @Pulapka, Gdansk
Aroma of raisins, dates and plums. Some slight coffee scents, maybe a hint of chocolate.
Taste is a bit red fruit sour and coffee bitter.
