BFM La Mandragore

BFM La Mandragore

4.1 From bottle. Pours opaque brown with hints of red. Aromas of blackcurrant, molasses, burnt toffee. Taste is slightly Smokey, dark chocolate, coffee grind on the finish.
4.0 Bottle from Appellation Wines. Appearance - opaque brown to black with a thin crema head. Nose - molasses, black jack sweets and candied sugar. Taste - blackcurrant and more molasses. Blackcurrant menthol om the end. Palate - medium bodied with a creamy texture and a long elegant finish. Overall - a lovely complex beer.
4.1 Swing top bottle. Very dark brown with a large head on opening which was slow to dissipate. Quite creamy with an unusual fruity flavour. My second from this brewery an well worth trying.
3.2 0.33l swingtop bottle. A really deep and dark brown - near black one in the glass with a good looking really huge almost creamy-fluffy dark ashy brown colored head. The nose is not directly what I would call extreme, but it’s still present with a little chocolate, a sour thing in the background and dark malts. It really doesn’t smell like it looks. It has a really nice oily mouthfeel with a comfortable above average carbonation level. That sourness in the aroma is also present in the taste. It’s woody-chocolate and a little bit sweet also. The slightly sourness actually works very well here. Making it a bit more interesting. Sour licorice? Is that a thing? Slightly peppery in the aftertaste. Interesting. 05.10.2013
2.9 From bottle at Moskus in Trondheim with UKM people 28.06.16. Ebony. Small brown head. Not mush lacing. Aroma and taste of dark malt, liquorice and some vanilla and coffee.
3.7 Bottle from Salt Horse. Pours black with a thick beige head. Aromas of liquorice, faint honey, light roast and dark fruit. Taste has a stronger coffee hit, more dark fruit. Clean finish. Bit of a sipper.
3.6 Dark copper, tan head, avg lace. Full body, intense flavor on attack but subsiding in the middle, lean and very hot mouthfeel, lingering and tasty palate. Very bitter but not dry, except in the finish. Intense roast flavors, coffee, dried cherries, raisins. Very nice stout.
3.7 33 cl, bottle conditioned fliptop, Almost exploding at the opening, ruined almost everyting at my desk area. It was really waiting to get out of the bottle. Very dark beer, thin tan coloured head. Low aroma level, but the coffee, chocolate and roasted notes are there. Palate is really challenged here, lots of flavours and carbonation going on. Flavour is malty, lots of coffee and dark fruits. For me, this is a somehow weird mix of the stout and abbey styles, it’s none of them and both at the same time. Will I buy it again? I don’t think so....
3.3 Bottle, hiver 2013-14. A gusher. Pours black, with an enormous creamy mocha head. Aroma is roasted malts with coffee, wooden barrels and leather. Full body, with soft to average carbonation. Flavour is sweet roasted malts, with bread, cocoa and coffee. Lingering sweet malty finish.

3.0 Black color with foam ring. The nose is "dark" and alcoholic. Strong licorice and dark malt taste. Calm and little roasty aftertaste.

3.5 Bottle. Gusher. Pours a large, fizzy, dark tanned head. Aroma of roasted malts, wood, liquorice and hints of dried fruit. Taste is moderate roasty with loads of fruityness. Dates and raisins, but also a light sour touch brings the taste towards liquorice and leather. Close to full bodied with a creamy texture and almost lively carbonation.
2.9 Definitely has the creamy sweet taste billed in the deScription. Aroma is a bit weak.
3.2 swing top bottle 330ml. -from trade with CH-303 (thanks Asbjorn!). Almost black coloured, medium sized beige head, dried fruits in the nose. Roasted malt, strong dried fruits, mild smoke and alcohol with touch of raisins in slightly vinous finish. Not bad but expected better brew.
3.9 Bottle at Café des Amis. Nice roast aroma, mostly coffee, and lots of it. Good balance of bitterness, coffee, and a slightly sweet backbone. Well-balanced and smooth.
3.0 Bottle [from trade with CH-303, thanks!] @ home. Dark brown color with a huge and wite long lasting beige to light brown head. Aroma is malts, sweetish and brown sugar. Tastes about the same, especially the brown malts and brown sugar are dominant. A little too sweet for me to really like it. Decent body, soft carbonation.
3.7 A small taste from a friend (bottle) @ One Pint Pub. Pours very dark red with a low tan head. Aroma is slightly sour roasted malts. Flavor is roasted malts with some sourness, coffee and hops. Nice.

3.6 Bottle from Drinks of the World, Geneva. Pours mahogany with a fading cream head. Sweet red fruit aroma. The taste is pretty sweet and fruity too with some liquorice in the finish. Moderate spice also. Prehaps a little thin and over carbonated, but pretty good otherwise.
3.6 On tap @BeerCab Noire claire peu de collet Aromes tapenade cafe Ronde enveloppante cafe sur la finale
3.5 Aroma of chocolate and coffee with a nice malt note. Black brown with a light brown quick dissipating head, light lacing. Complex very Belgian taste with leather, salted-licorice and nice bitter coffee. Tons of things going on and a long finish. I like it a lot.
3.3 Draft at Sergio’s, Louisville KY. Head is initially small, frothy, light brown, mostly lasting. Body is black. Aroma is moderately malty (chocolate, roasted grain), lightly hoppy (flowers), lightly yeasty (barnyard), with notes of black cherry, oak, vanilla. Flavor is moderately to heavily sweet, moderately acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly to moderately sweet, moderately acidic, moderately bitter. Medium body, watery texture, lively/soft carbonation, lightly to moderately alcoholic. A sourish rendition, almost like a splash of wild Flemish sour was added. Fun but ultimately kind of hard to drink much of.
4.0 Pours completely black with a slight brown head. Nice lacing. Smoky and toasty. Creamy finish. Slightly tart on the finish. Lovely.
3.6 Draft at Pizzeria Paradiso - Dupont. Poured a dark brown color, some ruby notes on the edges. Flavor was light roasted malts, some light coffee. Flavor was light roasted notes, dry malts. Pretty tasty, easy to drink despite the ABV.
