BFM Tarry Suchong

BFM Tarry Suchong

3.7 Sample at BXL from tap. Pours dark amber brownish colour. Thin beige head. Malty, caramelly, bit bready aroma. Malty, bit smiky beginning. Caramelly notes, hints of smoke in the taste. Caramelly, bit smoky aftertaste. Light bodied, bit crisp, slightly sweet, bit smoky brew. Easy drinkable. Quite good one.
3.2 Tap at BXL as La Bats. Pours hazy murky brown colour, small off-white head. Aroma is malty, some toffee. Taste is smoky, malty, bit caramelly. Medium body, average carbonation. Drinkable, but smoke is quite backgrounded here
3.6 Bottle, from the brewpub, as BATS. Quite dark given the ambrée label, more brown I’d say, with a white foam. Lovely soft carbonation. A very interesting beer, with some dark but sweeter rather than bitter/roasted malty notes, a low hop presence, but an interesting overlay of smoke and tea. The smoke was subtle rather than overwhelming. Not the sort of beer I generally like that much, as they are normally not done that well, but I think it successfully avoided becoming a flabby mess and would be a very interesting food pairing beer.
3.4 Big bottle shared by Finn. Hazed copper coloured body, remaining off-white head, spotty lacing. Smoked malty nose, hints of brown malts and earth. Smoked meat to the taste buds added by berry fruits. Malt-fruity ending, mid-sweet. Decent stuff. (Session with janeriks, Finn, Snegurochka and TheCellerar, Tromsø 15.03.2018).
3.2 Flaske fra Vinmonopolet Tromsø - Langnes. Delt med Janeriks, Rune, Sneguchka og TheCellerar på Nerstranda. Amber. Høyt tett skum som daler sakte. Lett baconaroma. Myk munnfølelse. Smaken balansert. Malt & røyk. Uklar de to siste kvellingene.
2.5 25/XI/17 - sample @ Vini, Birre, Ribelli (Brussels) - BB: n/a (2017-1945) thanks to Kraddel, 77ships and other Antwerp and international tickers for sharing today's beers! Cloudy amber beer, small creamy beige head, pretty stable, bit adhesive. Aroma: dirty, sulphur, spicy and herbal, thyme, rubber notes. MF: soft carbon, medium body. Taste: very weird, sweetish, caramel, banana, bitter, yeast, bit of cherries, smoky finish. Not a very pleasant beer, wouldn't want to drink this again. And it's not the Lapsang Sauchon, cause I really like that. Maybe it was just bad quality smoked tea?
2.3 Pours unclear dark blonde, small white head. Smell is rotten, smoked, filthy. Taste is smoked, full, rotten. Not good.
4.1 I found this bottle at Boissons Service in Prilly-Malley. I tried this nectar today, before the meal as an aperitive. Sincerly, I was not disappointed about this beer, really nice experience and an original drink from an artist of tastes in the Jura Province. The color is brown, a little red and troubled. The carbonation is regular, a little sparkling, thin and white foam. The taste is a perfect harmony of aromas and savours, like a classical concert in a peaceful area. The first attack is with the smocked malt, sourness, at the final, you smell the green tea, the hop. For the style, it is dry, I could say normal due to the tea with the smocked malt, you have notes of beech tree, bacon. The impression is really good with some yeast deposit.
3.4 (Draught at Chez Moeder Lambic Original, Brussels, 20 May 2017) Reddish amber colour with frothy, beige head. Malty, fruity nose with caramel, red fruit, hints of smoke and crisp-bread. Malty, fruity taste with notes of caramel, red fruit, smoke, hints of tar, rye bread and a gentle bitterness. Medium body, with a touch of sweetness. Tasty and well balanced, with a gentle smoke character. Quite nice.
3.4 Bottle at a tasting. The beer is overall complex, but rather subtle, soft, delicate. Smokiness is barely noticeable, caramelly malty sweetness is moderate. Some clove present. Good and drinkable, interesting as well, but could use more complexity IMO.
