Big Drop Stout

Big Drop Stout

With notes of coffee, cocoa nibs and a lingering hint of sweet vanilla this beer is dark, rich and indulgent. We keep ours in the fridge but take it out about an hour or so before we drink it as all that decadence needs a bit of warming up. We pour it fast into a tulip glass so the gorgeous coffee aromas can stretch their legs. If it’s early in the evening, an oyster or two sets it off nicely. If it’s later, a chocolate fondant rounds off this truly extravagant beer.

Ingredients: water, barley, oats, rye, hops, yeast, lactose, cocoa nibs.

2.6 330ml bottle. Pours dark brown, beige head. Roast nose. Typically thin bodied with noticeable roasty charcoal, coffee, dark malt grain soft bitterness. Not bad.
3.0 330ml bottle under "Dark Noir" for the Ontario market. Pours a real dark brown colour, really black with no highlights I can see. The head is frothy, light mocha-coloured, with decent stay and some foamy patches of lacing. The nose is quite nutty, with the roasted malts and other cereal grain notes. Could smell the cocoa nibs at first pour, but seemed to have calm down, and let some coffee notes appear. As soon as you put it in your mouth, you can feel the light mouthfeel and no alcohol business. Still, the taste is alright, as this is a dark brew, showing some roasted malts with hops in the finish, and hints of chocolate, coffee. Well done for such a low alcohol content.
3.3 Phenomenal. The taste for ABV is up there with the best of the session IPAs. I would never have guessed it was 0.5%. Maybe a little thin but that's understandable. Lots of chocolate and coffee and sweet vanilla.
3.1 KØLF 291119. Dark brown color with a beige head. Aroma is roasted malt, coffee, licorice. Flavor is burnt, roasted malt, licorice, lactose, coffee. Nice low alcohol.
3.0 Bottle from Honest Brew. Dark brown body with a thin beige head. Faint lacing. Aroma of twigs and copper. Flavour of stainless steel, brown sugar and Marmite. Thin body with a watery texture. Soft fizz. Sugary and metallic.
3.1 Bottle. Close to black body with a small beige head. Aroma has dark malt, coffee and licorice. Quite sweet with smooth dark malt, coffee, chocolate and moderate bitterness. Thin bodied and a bit short in aftertaste. Drinkable but plain non alcoholic alternative. Aroma was the best part.
2.5 bottle at home bought from a local supermarket, only bought this as I was intrigued by a non alcoholic stout. Lots of coffee in this and it was way too much. It said it was a milk stout on the bottle but for me this didnt have enough or any lactose in it which may have helped to balance the beer out
3.3 Jet black with a tan foam and an ashy note on the nose, along with a little roasted coffee and malt. A lightly milky texture, malty sweetness balanced by a drying burnt note. a little thin-bodied yet very well put together.

3.7 33cl bottle. A black beer with a beige head. Aroma of roasted dark malt, chocolate and coffee. Taste of sweet roasted dark malt, chocolate, cookies. Quite nice!
3.3 Bottle.Black colour with small beige head.Aroma of soya sauce and caramel feels a bit dusty with hint of earth and caramel.
3.4 Sample@Ølfestival, København 2019. A clear dark brown coloured beer with an brown head. Aroma and flavour of malt, caramel, chocolate, coffee, lactose and with a roasted finish.
3.0 Bottle @ Home w senior. Appearance: pours clear dark brown with ok tan soapy head and lacing. aroma/taste: barley, caramel, light lactose, chocolate and coffee notes. palette: medium roasted malty aroma, average carbonation, light to medium body, medium sweetness, somewhat balanced by a a light to medium bitterness, average duration and an oily texture. Overall: pretty impressive low ABV
3.3 330ml (0.5%) at home on 5 Nov 2019 (bb 27 Mar 2020): treacle, roast malt aroma, opaque near black, thin tan head, very sparse lacing, smoked, roast malt, treacle flavour, bit of lactose sweetness, dry malty finish.
3.3 330 ml bottle from the LCBO. Pours a dark brown colour with modest-sized light tan head. Aroma is roasty and chocolatey with a bit of coffee. Flavour is sweet and roasty with pleasant chocolate character, some leafiness and light coffee. Predictably thin. Quite impressive for a low alcohol offering.
2.8 Bottled, 330ml at The Harry Cook Freehouse, Cheltenham, Gloucs. Cola colour with tan head. This proved to be quite a thin, sweet beer, cola flavours with a hint of coffee. Watery notes. Just okay.
3.8 330ml bottle from Beer Hawk. Almost black colour with minimal tan head. Aroma of toasted malt, coffee. Taste is the same. There is a hint of that wet cardboard taste but only a hint. Overall this is one of the best low alcohol beers I have tried.
2.7 Almost clear deep brown, beige head. Smells of deep caramelized sugars, slighlty burnt and ashy, a little smoky. The flavour is not bad - a rather nice dark sugar / light roast / earhy leafy bitterness. Of course the lack of alcohol is hard to hide - that makes the malts feel like sugars dilluted in water. Still, a rather different non-alcoholic beer, both flavour wise and also being free from the usual shortcomings of non-alco pale lagers.
2.6 At SBWF 2019. Dark brown with a minimal head. Sweet with chocolate, dark malt and some caramel. The body was light and the finish quite short.
2.9 Aug 2019. 330ml bottle, filtered, from Tesco. I didn't realise this was a 0.5% beer. I drank it in the bath and found it spritzy and watery with a tad too much roast bitterness, but that it was otherwise an acceptable drink. I do admire low alcohol beers that deliver on taste and body. This one is lacking a bit in body, but no more than many beers at ten times the strength. Yeah, good one.
2.9 Bottle - good stout looks, dark with initial ok tan head. Ground coffee aromas though not as strong as standard stout. Ok mouthfeel. Nothing wrong with taste, but a bit under strength. Easy drinking.
3.3 33 cl bottle. Pours dark brown to black. Small tanhead. Aroma is roasted dark malty. Bitter, breadish. Roasted dark malt. Lingering dark malty finish.
4.1 Fantastic for a non alcoholic beer. The chocolate notes are accompanied by a chocolate and slight Tobbaco flavour. Outstanding stout
3.5 Can from SB 2019-07-26 Bohus-Malmön AR: sweet lactose chocolate AP: dark brown, no head F: sweet lactose chocolate
3.5 Honestly the best non alcoholic beer I've ever had. Even though it's light bodied and drier than I would've liked it's packed with roasted taste of malt, coffee, cacao beans and tobacco.
2.0 Schwarzes Bier mit grobporigem, schnell vergehendem Schaum. Schwachsalziger Zuckerrübensirup und Pumpernickel in der Nase. Wässriges Röstmalz im Mund, Schwarzbrot, schwacher Kaffee, metallisch, Kohlensäure.
2.9 330ml bottle. Quasi black colour with average, frothy to macropore, slowly osteoporosing, minimally lacing, beige to tan head. Chocolately and roasty, dark malty aroma, hints of dark chocolate, some cocoa, a touch of lactose. Taste is dry, roasty dark malty, slightly chocolately, a touch of lactose; slightly watery, slightly overcarbonated. Nice composition, but quite anaemic due to its low abv.
1.1 En næsten alkoholfri chokoladestout, der har en meget mild lugt af gammel kold kaffe og askebæger. Smager umiddelbart af røg og aske, men bliver derefter meget metallisk.
