1.2I’ve often seen reviews which describe a beer as "skunky." I never knew what that meant until yesterday. We drove by a dead skunk, and as I smelled it, I thought, "that reminds me of Big Flats Beer." I believe it’s really hard to ruin a beer. And my taste of Big Flats wasn’t totally ruined. It was drinkable, but barely. It did slightly remind me of the skunk I drove by..not a whole bunch but a little bit. I don’t think it’s real good beer, although Big Flats Light isn’t bad. For $2.50 a six pack, the Big Flats was barely worth it.
2.7I was informed by a friend that in the far off land of wallgreens there existed a 6 pack so cheap that you could get it for under 4 dollars. I did not believe him until I found it.... This is a beer that occupies the new cheapest spot in the list of beers I’d probably buy again. It’s not repulsive, it’s sweet and a little malty, you can almost taste a good beer in there somewhere... For what it is, it’s great! If you’re strapped for cash and still want a 6 pack that won’t break the bank, but don’t mind drinking something that’s not the most spectacular beverage you’ve ever consumed, buy this. It’s pretty not that bad, I guess...
2.212oz can via six pack from Walgreens in Times Square NYC. Poured into a plastic hotel cup. Pours a crystal clear pale yellow color with a finger of frothy white head. Aroma of grain, corn, and faint lemony citrus. Taste of sweet grain, corn, lager yeast, and lemon zest. Not good, but id drink this over M/B/C any day.
1.4Can. Sweet grainy malt aroma. Clear gold with a moderate white head. Sweet corn malt flavor. Light body, moderate carbonation.
2.0Can at the 14th Richmond Ratebeer Gathering on 03/19/2011 courtesy of dkachur. Clear pale golden body with a medium creamy off-white head. Sweet corn and honey aroma. Sweet corn, honey and dry grain flavor. Medium light body with moderate carbonation.
0.8Can. Corn and barley malt aroma. Medium yellow with huge head. Weird sweet vegetal malt flavor - like the crappy mixed vegetables you get in a TV dinner. Looks pretty good but that’s it. Vile.
1.912 oz. can from Walgreens (brewed in LaCrosse, WI), pours a clear pale golden coler of average white head and not much lacing. Aroma is full of corn and lemony malt with some bread. Taste is on the sweet side with a slight metallic aftertaste. Body is light but not watery, with noticeable carbonation. My expectations were exceeded. This is definitely a cheap pale lager, which serves its purpose. Not horrible, and one I’m proud to have checked out.
1.1Pleasantly surprised. Not harsh and acrid like Busch, Natty Light or other cheap beers. Make no mistake this is cheap beer. Tastes like...well it’s a little to sweet. Almost like its malt liquor with beer flavoring added later OR it taste like Budweiser...if you explained Budweiser to space aliens and they tried to reproduce it for you to keep you blitzed and happy on the long trip back to their home world after abducting you.
Think soda pop of beer: it goes down smooth, it’s refreshing and you won’t think twice about it while you consume it.
1.71/02/2011: Big Flats Lager Beer... Aroma: Wet grain, weak Hawaiian bread, and lots of corn (slightly toasted and sweet like creamed cown). Appearance: Extremely pale straw color; ultra-transparent; ribbony waves of ample carbonation; large, lasting white head. Flavor: Extremely weak flavor - ALMOST tastes like beer; slightly doughy with notes of sweet corn and weak grass; sweet, smooth finish that ends almost as quickly as it starts. Palate: Light, gassy, short-lived; body is actually not watery. Overall: Cold wet beer, but just BARELY!
12 fl. oz. can from Tmoney99. Thanks Tom! Rating #189 for this beer.
1.9Can from Walgreens. Aroma is cheap, malt forward, lager from a can. metalic. Taste is a little too flavorful in a pale lager. Lemony malt with some more metal and corn. No hops. Not as bad as some other super cheap pale lagers but this is not good.
3.9This beer is cheap, but has a sweet fruity taste that is a nice change from the normal beers like Busch, Miller, Bud ect. I have been on a can kick lately because my neighbor takes them to the recycle center for a few extra bucks and these pour nicely into my frosted mugs. I’m sure other people give this a lower rating but it is one of my faves.
0.712 fl oz / 355ml can into a frosty mug. Served cold.
Aroma: Corny. No hop profile. Sweetish.
Appearance: Completely clear, pale yellow body with a thick, soapy, white head.
Taste: Mild malt. not as bad as I was expecting, to be honest. Still pretty bad, though.
Palate: Light body, instafinish. Watery as it gets.
Overall: Yellow, sweet water.
1.5Can thanks to Chudwick. Aroma is skunky with corn and rice. Some hops come out. Typical American style lager. A little better than the macros.
2.5at first I thought it was root beer, as I stood there waiting for pictures at Walgreens.Sure enough, the box said lager. $2.99 a six pack - couldn’t pass it up. pours pale yellow with quickly diminishing white head. Nose is corn. Flavor adds grass and cereal. watery. quite inoffensive. easy to drink. I may volunteer to go get our photos more often.
0.9I really can't complain for a cheap beer from Walgreens, it's drinkable but it's not good. -- rated via 'Find A Beer' for Blackberry 10
2.0I know its dirt beer, but it worked that day. Not bad as a summer sipper while checking out the food trucks.
3.1I bought this beer today at Walgreens, got it for 3.33 six pack total with tax. At first, thought this was kind of a funny tasting beer, but I’m into my third one down, its going down good too. I was in upstate NY in early 1990’s and familiar with Genesee beers, it was the local cheapest beer on draft, not the best tasting of beers but it did the trick. I do like the foam part of it, and the taste for the price does the trick. I would drink it again. Not a bad beer, not the best but not that bad.
2.212 oz can from bhensonb poured into my "Golden Harvest Drinking Jar". Nose is sweet caramel corn with a hint of bubblegum. Clear urine yellow with a medium white head. Flavor is sweet malt with a hint of cotton candy. Actually slightly pleasant to drink with the malty body on this hot afternoon after I just got home from a long steep bicycle ride.
1.9Pours clear golden with a fluffy white head and a skunky lager aroma. There is a very thin sweet malt flavor with a hint of hop bitterness.
2.0Can from a Walgreens. Pours gold with a foamy white head. Bready aroma. Med body, almost. Flavor is lightly bready with not much hop at all. The light version seems more hop flavorful, though this has more malt character. As ever, the question is why. It must be for the alcohol.
1.712oz can shared..poured a clear yellow color with big white frothy head...not much going on here except its $2.99/6pack..i didnt buy it just shared a can...mild aroma mild flavor corn some malt and thats about it...
2.612 ounce can from Matt Byrne, reads Coors Original. Drinkable; better than the rating.
3.9I can hardly believe all the insults. I bought my first 6-pack of Big Flats probably a year ago or more. I am VERY impressed with the nice balanced flavor of this beer. Nothing remarkable about this beer except for one major thing - there is absolutely nothing to complain about. It is not too bitter, not watery, not hard to drink, not "skunky" smelling like someone had complained about. I like it as much or better than any regular priced beer I have had in my whole life, and I am 59 years old. I have tried a few.
3.1Not bad, $2.99 a sixer can’t go wrong. Alot easer to drink than some of those trendy $8 and $9 six pack beers. This is a good beer to take fishing, camping or if doing shooters as a chaser! Over all in a child mug or glass it’s good to go! Better than BUD!!
1.8Reading some comments are funny, what the hell do you expect from a $3.00 six pack. Haha.
2.1~Sweet sugary corn aroma with mild maltiness.
~Pours clear golden with quickly disappearing white head.
~Sweet corn like flavor with bready malts. Little to no hop flavor.
~medium light bodied with medium high CO2, sweet quick bready finish.
~For the style its really not a bad brew. This is one of the better Pale Lagers that I have had.
0.9This beer finishes with a really strange grape flavor that is overwhelming especially for a bargain beer that is meant to be drank in large quantities. Still better than bud light though.
3.4Have been drinking this off and on since introduced by my employer, Walgreens, as a house brand. Bargain basement price. Early purchases had metallic taste until you started on can #2 - recent purchases much more pleasant. Now quite comparable to Budweiser in taste and alcohol - more flavor than "light" beers. I’m no beer snob - I prefer American adjunct beers, so this brew will satisfy if you want a light, flavorful session beer (as long as it’s reasonably fresh).
2.1Not a very great beer, but at the price, I expected no less. Still seems better than most bargain-basement beers. Would take a lot of these to get me crooked, but that wasn’t my intention.
5.0Very good beer , even better when you drink it with your wife, soft to the palate, nice taste, best price around
