Big Horn Hefeweizen

Big Horn Hefeweizen

A true German-style hefeweizen made with 45% malted wheat, unmalted wheat, Munich malt and 2-row barley. The yeast is a southern German style strain. The flavor profile includes clove and banana undertones. This beer is unfiltered and slightly phenolic. The hop additions are all traditional Hallertauer hops.

2.9 "another fairly solid but short of a standout brew from the RAM. a little more citrusy than standard for the german hefes. still nice. smooth, light spice and clove and a hint of banana."
2.0 Draft at Humperdinks in Arlington. Cloudy orange. Aroma of intense and massive (?artificial) bubblegum. Taste is strangely bitter and sour. Unpleasant.
2.9 Sampler at Schaumburg. Hazy yellow tan. Decent banana clove tones. A pretty acceptable offering. Easy drinking, but there is an odd underlying taste. Did not grow on me.
3.3 All of the right weizen notes, with a hint of smoke. Nice job on this, as the Americans can’t seem to make a decent weizen. Heavier, chewy mouthfeel, creamy head, and sweet wheat and malt notes. It’s the smokiness that adds a new dmenssion, and makes it interesting. Nice job!
2.3 Draught in a flight at the pub. Pours a rather cloudy golden color. Nose has loads of citrus in there, as well as quite a bit of wheat and clove to it. Taste has a little banana in there, as well as just a bit of wheat. Meh.
3.6 Draft: Indianapolis RAM, downtown Cloudy yellow with a small white head. Orange, banana, clove scent. Very sweet, candied orange, banana flavours. Very nice.
3.8 Enjoyed on tap @ Ram restaurant Salem, OR with Erick 1-17-14. Visually, to be expected. Ok head, white frothy. But the flavor is a nice mix of wheat, bubble gum and then distinct banana. 8.8 BD
2.9 12/15/2013. Hazy golden color with a white head. Not my favorite style, but one of the better ones I tried, so maybe that say more about the rest of the line up. Citrus, spice and banana with bready flavors and a spicy bitter finish
3.0 Pour on tap at the brewpub, slightly hazy yellow pour with thin white head, aroma brought notes of slight grass, clove, banana, hints of bubblegum, touch of biscuit, bread, slight more spice and yeasty notes, fairly clean overall. Taste is a mix of slight bubblegum, clove, hints of biscuit and bread, slight spice, finishing yeasty, slightly sweet, dry.
3.1 Hazy blond, white head. Smell decent banana clove. Taste gum and clove. Bit of a bite in the after taste. Not a bad American take on it.
1.3 I can’t taste bananas or bubble gum or cloves or tuna or anything else here but hops and citrus. Unfiltered but bold hops and soapy kicks. My failure not theirs, I admittedly can’t drink these hopster varieties. ZThe Brewery is excellent
3.1 Growler from the RAM in Wheeling brought by ck1 to the Mom-without-Bill tasting. Thanks bro! Banana and clove. Fairly light but with some body. A decent representation of the style.
3.0 On tap at Ram, Tacoma. It pours an unclear, orange-golden body topped by a small, white head. Lots of cloves in the aroma, with decent leves of banana and bubble gum. Some generic fruityness and a little malty touch too. The flavor too has too much cloves, but the levels of malts, bubble gum and banana are nice. Medium body, perhaps a tad low on carbonation. Cloves and bubble gum finish, some fruityness too. Decent indeed, but not impressive. 130629
3.3 On tap at C.B. & Potts Collindale. Milky yellow-orange appearance, unfiltered with a small white head. The aroma and flavor is banana, citrus fruits, wheat malts, clove, coriander and herbs/spices. Light to medium body with a soft creamy feel. Pretty refreshing.
3.0 From notes. Draft at the schaumburg location. Decently sweet with a good deal of banana. Ok beer, but nothing to get excited over.
3.3 Cloudy lemon yellow with thin white lacing. Medium nose of clove; full bodied, creamy palate is heavy on banana with notes of bubblegum and clove.
3.3 Taster at the RAM, Schaumburg. Properly cloudy. A nice ’nana and ester nose which matches up with the taste. The menu here refers to "Vanguard" hops, which I don’t know what they mean in a German beer, but they don’t drag this beer off-style. Nice fizzy mouthfeel to the end.
3.6 On tap at C.B. Potts Greenwood Village location. Pour is hazy lemon peel with a small white head and decent lacing. Wheaty, bready, citrusy aroma- notes of banana, light bubblegum, biscuit, and straw. Taste is sweet banana, and clove upfront, leading to a well-round body - very wheaty, bready, straw - and ending with a touch of bubblegum and decent spice on the backend. Full mouthfeel with medium carbonation. Damn decent Hefe, that kind-of surprised me.
3.4 Hazy light golden pout. Good american made hwfeweizen. Sweet with a lot of banana.
2.6 Tap. Pours hazy, pale yellow with thin, fizzy white head; short retention and minimal lacing. Aroma is banana, cloves, cereal malt, lemon, and light orange peel. Flavor is bland, bready malts, banana, herbs, and light grassy hops; dry finish. Light body and low carbonation.
3.5 On tap at Schaumburg location, pours a hazy yellow with virtually no head at all, the aroma has a little bit of spices and banana but not a whole lot, the flavor has a decent amount of fruit on the front end with banana flavors in the finish, decent mouthfeel, one of the better choices here so far.
3.1 Draft at Humperdinks northwest. Pours yellow with an inch of white foam. Slight banana on the nose. Solid taste notes on the tongue. Might have been better had it not been served in a refridgerated glass.
3.4 On tap @ C.I. Shenanigans in Spokane. Murky medium gold, medium white head. Nice aroma of banana, wheat, cream, spice. Flavours of vanilla cookie, banana, spice. Lightly tart finish. Quite nice.
3.3 Nice traditional here with a deeply juicy banana character. Clove is dialed way back. Murky maize; little head. Nice soft mouthfeel. Great summer quencher.
2.5 On tap at RAM. Has a light yellow appearance and a thin white head. Has a banana nose and taste. The aroma seemed more like a kolsch. Has a thin body and a carbonated finish. Ok but not great.
3.8 Decent Bavarian style hef. Lacks the full flavor of the style, but is still solidly drinkable.
3.1 Sampled from the tap at the Mundelin beer fest. Pours a cloudy slightly pale gold with a white head that lasted throughout the beer. Aroma is slightly perfumey with a good amount of clove and backing sweet grains and banana. The flavor has a good amount of sweet grains up front with the clove and banana coming out in the finish.
3.4 Murky golden in appearance...seriously cloudy! Pear fruit and spices are the feature of both the aroma and taste vs more of the banana-clove Im used to, which is nice. Notes: Pub visit during ’09 GABF
2.8 Hazy ripe banana in color. Little head with very slight carbonation. Clove and banana nose. Some wheat, spice and banana taste but very subtle. Pretty average Hefe without the lemon thank you.
2.2 Pours a cloudy yellow with no carbonation and minimal head. Orange peel aroma and strong orange taste on top of wheat malt. Slight medicine taste and aftertaste on a medium body.
