Big Sky IPA

Big Sky IPA

This big, rich IPA features Simcoe hops which give it both a fruity, piney hop nose and a clean, ringing bitterness. IN-between, the malt flavor is slightly caramel for a touch of malt sweetness. This IPA is well-balanced and very expressive with hops.

3.3 Amber orange in colour, very tropical aroma with plenty of fruit. Tastes slightly thin and grassy after the smell. Pleasant drinkable grapefruit, gassy apricots and hops
3.7 12oz bottle copper pour white head tropical aroma with a touch of pine taste is medium sweet with a slight bitter finish
3.8 Copper with a white head. Very nice balance of sweet malt and fresh citrus. Decently bitter without being harsh. A very good, balanced, enjoyable IPA.
3.7 Bottle. Amber in colour. Very hoppy; piney resinous slightly oily hops. Fruity; tangerines and grapefruit citrus. Malty backbone; toasty biscuity malts, caramel. Although the hops dominate, they are not extreme. This is a reasonably balanced hops/fruit/malt beer. Long dry bitter hoppy piney finish. Enjoyed this. Nice IPA! (2009-08)
3.6 355ml bottle. Pours a slightly hazy amber-orange with a medium, frothy, long lasting, off-white head that leaves curtains of lace. Sweet aroma of caramel malt, grapefruit, orange, peach and pine needles. Sweet flavour of caramel malt, pine needles, orange, grapefruit, tropical fruit, peach and grass with a crisp, dry, bitter, hoppy finish. Medium body with an oily texture and soft carbonation.
3.6 Rich amber color; Medium slightly creamy body; Aroma of floral hops, malt, citrus, & some fruit; Flavor of slight sweet malt, caramel, pine hops, and citrus (notably orange); Finish is slightly bitter; Quite decent.
4.1 12oz bottle to tulip. Pours clear gold copper, white head. Aroma of grapefruit, pine, bread, strawberry, peach. Taste of same with great trop fruit and stone fruit flavor. Caramel, cereal and honey bread.
3.7 18/XI/16 - 12Fl. Oz. bottle from a trade, shared @ Seb’s Farewell Tasting (Eugene’s place) - BB: or bottled: II/31/16 (2016-1317) Thanks to Alengrin for the trade! Clear orange beer, small aery irregular white head, unstable, non adhesive. Aroma: very fruity, pretty oxidized as well, lots of sweet ripe peaches, some caramel, lychees, more caramel. MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: very fruity, soft bitterness, citrus, some grapefruit, lovely stuff, caramel. Aftertaste: malty, some caramel, sweet, lovely fruit flavours, very bitter, bit sweet. Still pretty darn good, despite the age on this one. Also: STATE TICK!
3.5 Thank you tderoeck! 355 ml. bottle sampled @ Sebletitje’s Farewell Tasting. Bottle says 033116 - bottled on? Clear orange, off-white head. Nose is oily stale pine oil hop, bland old USA IPA, stlaer hops. Taste is oily basic malt, sugar, pine resin, stale old USA IPA, barn hay. Stale USA hop oil body. Still pretty decent but feels quite old, far older than it should at 6 months.
3.6 Bottle shared by Tderoeck @ Sebletitje’s Farewell tasting. Clear peachy orange color, small white head. Smell and taste malts, some piney hops and light spruce, hop bitter, lightly sticky. Decent to medium body and carbonation. Nice.
2.9 Bottle shared @ Sebletitje’s Farewell tasting, thanks for sharing tderoeck. Very malty, little bit oxidized, drinking this at 6 months age, maybe it’s too much. Not very good at this age.
3.5 12 oz bottle. (Happy Harry’s) Fargo, ND. Clear deep golden color with a small white head. Fruity hops, mild bitterness, tropical fruits, mild ice cream and some dryish malt in the aroma. The flavor is fruity and piney hops, mild bitterness, sweetness, ice cream and some maltiness. Nicely balanced.
3.8 An American style IPA from Montana, my first beer from this brewery, depicting a pronghorn on its label - an unusual species of artiodactyl indigenous to the North American prairies. Thick ’membranous’ lacing, off-white, moussy head slowly dissolving in the middle, clear and warm orange blonde robe, almost amberish. Fragrant aroma of moldy grapefruit peel, spruce shoots, sweet paprika, hemp, red curry, dried mango, pink pepper, kumquat, biscuit, apple cake dough, freshly toasted white bread, yellow kiwi, passion fruit, lavender. Fruity but clean onset, refreshing, restrained but at the same time outspoken sweetness dominating with hints of mango, lychee and melon, medium carbo fit for the style, supple, lean mouthfeel. Some faint sourish redcurrant notes are quickly overcome by hoppiness, gradually and elegantly developing its bittering properties over a bridge of soft, sweet biscuity malts and ending very aromatic, with a wealth of retronasal pine, mango and sweet citrus aromas, and simultaneously providing a resinous, grapefruity, tangy bitterness drying the back of the mouth. Very typical modern day IPA in every respect, no game changer perhaps, but technically well done and delicate, tilted towards the sweet, tropical, aromatic side. Very enjoyable.
3.6 12 oz bottle pours amber with a off white head. Aroma of citrus, floral and caramel. Taste is caramel, citrus and some resin.
3.8 can - bought in Jackson WY - drank in the Tetons. Terrific, simple IPA. Especially fond since I had 2 at my campsite up in the Tetons. Made for a perfect end to epic hiking
3.4 Poured from bottle...pine and mild hop nose....mouth follows nose...mildly bitter finish...decent beer...(#834)
3.4 12 Fl. Oz. Bottle. Pours clear, orange in color, nice white head and nice lacing on the glass. Aroma is of hops (pine and citrus fruits) mixed with a touch of malts and some booze. Taste is hoppy but very well balanced with malts. Very good IPA, well crafted.
3.9 With the growing number of Anerican IPAs being available in Australia this ranks very highly. A good orange hue in the pour and mellow notes of pine resin. There is a bit of same same with the simcoe and amarillo hop flavour but these are well balanced by the malty finish. A really good go to IPA.
3.7 Orange gold pour with a decent white head. Malt, resin and citrus aroma. Taste is pine, resin, sweet malt and some tropical fruit.
3.1 BOTTLE. Hazy orange to brown with thick off white head.. Strong biscuit & caramel malt nose.. Thin hoppy start that goes to a subtle bitterness in the middle finishing with a thick hit of caramel & biscuit malts.. Sourced Cellarbrations @ Capel
3.7 Has the right combination of malty sweetness and hops to make it very drinkable. Its how I like an IPA.
4.0 Poured a 12oz brown bottle into a nucleated schooner glass, a clear medium orange amber colour with thin but persistent white foam and lace. Rich caramel malt sweetness supporting even bigger American hop bill: grapefruit, woodsy, with dank resin (Simcoe?), tangy sweet citrus and overripe apricots (Crystal?). Lingering bitter bite blending well with fruity English ale yeast esters. Definitely a hops-forward balanced, but more tasty and nicely layered than many competing A-IPAs. Light-medium body, moderate carbonation, smooth, well-rounded mouthfeel, nice alcoholic strength, long-lasting bittersweet and fruity aftertastes. Very tasty.
3.2 Pours a nice clear amber from a bottle. Aroma of tropical fruit, pine-y. Flavor similar, rather bitter. Good beer.
2.0 Have had this in the bottle here in Brisbane from BeerBarons but not on tap before. I remember the bottle to have been a solid IPA. I think these kegs have had a very long journey across the seas from Montana to Down Under.
3.5 Bottle. Tastes like mellow grapefruit and pine hops, some resin, some sweet grapefruit, and bready malt. Light/medium body and low carbonation. Smells like sweet grapefruit, bready and toasted malt, light resin, and grapefruit and pine hops.
3.6 (Can) Deep amber brown with good off-white head. Nice aroma of grapefruit with some peppery spice. Great palate, smooth medium bodied with good carbonation. Taste starts with a nice balance of light caramel malt and citrus and steadily herbal then hoppy bitter notes strengthen, but without ever beck ing aggressive. Nice drinkable hoppy IPA.
3.4 Sampled from a 12 oz bottle. A malty, smooth and balanced IPA overall. Medium body with notes of earth, pine and a touch of toffee and caramel malt to round things out.
3.5 I’d buy this on the ’reg for sure. Nice front of hops, pine, some floral and earthy smells and tastes to it. Makes me thing of being out in the woods. The official beer of the lumberjack. Orange blond in color, very nice to drink this
3.7 Can. Nice enough, caramel maltiness, light hoppiness, bit of citrus. Alright.
4.0 Solid IPA - slightly malt dominant - a good amount of herbal, fruity hops - a bit two dimensional - light on the tongue - decent bitterness - a quaffer - not exciting and wouldn’t seek it out but wouldn’t turn it down if offered.
