3.3 12 oz single bottle from Wilbur’s Total Beverage. Almost black in appearance with a tan head and light lacing. Aroma of cocoa, roasted malt, light coffee and light chocolate. Similar flavor, adding a hint of molasses. Light to medium body, a little thin on the palate. OK.
3.4 12oz brown bottle. The colour is dark brown with dark red highlighting. the head has a tight bead and sits low in the glass. Nose has chocolate, roast, coffee and porridge. Taste - chocolate, light roast and lots of oat. Dry finish with not much going on. Very creamy and excellent mouthfeel.
3.5 Pours a dark brown with a thin tan head. Aroma is roast and caramel. Flavor is similar, slightly sweet. Has a thin body. Pretty good.
3.5 12 oz bottle, part of the World Market winter 9 bottle mix pack, courtesy of my in-laws. Bottle marked 224144 121014. It appears this is best before December 10, 2014. The pour is a darker brown with a smaller tan head that lasts. The aroma is oatmeal, soft nut, sweet malt and some faint roast. The taste is the oatmeal, nut sweet malt and roast of the nose with added pine hop present. The palate is medium to heavy bodied with soft carbonation and the roast pine mineral finish. Solid.
3.2 Draft sample at Gravity - pours a murky brown . Soft medium roast aroma . Faint chocolate and coffee flavor . Ok but a little weak for the style .
3.2 On tap at Elizabeth Station, pours black with a small tan head. Aroma is smooth, with oats, light cocoa and a touch of toasted malt. Flavour is smooth and restrained, with oats and a touch of very dry cocoa. Not a whole lot going on here, but it’s sure smooth and drinkable.
3.7 12 ounce bottle into pint glass, best before 12/10/2014. Pours crystal clear very dark brown color with a 1-2 finger dense tan head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Light spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of milk chocolate, caramel, cocoa, toasted oats, light coffee, brown bread, herbal, floral, and herbal/toasted earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance and complexity of dark/roasted/bready malt and moderate earthy hop notes; with solid strength. Taste of milk chocolate, caramel, cocoa, toasted oats, light coffee, brown bread, herbal, floral, and herbal/toasted earthiness. Light herbal/roasted bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of milk chocolate, caramel, cocoa, toasted oats, light coffee, brown bread, and herbal/toasted earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Nice robustness and complexity of dark/roasted/bready malt and moderate earthy hop flavors; with a good malt/bitterness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, moderately creamy, and lightly bready mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is a nice oatmeal stout style. All around good complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roasted/bready malt and moderate earthy hop flavors; and very smooth and easy to drink. Not as bold as some other oatmeal stouts; but still very well rounded and nicely enjoyable in flavors.
4.3 Pours a dark black with some ruby shining through when held up to light. The head is moderate sized and khaki. The aroma is roasted malts and maybe some chocolate. The taste is very similar to the aroma. Very mild hop presence. There is some sweetness to this beer but not overpowered. Perfectly balanced oatmeal stout!
3.5 Nice oatmeal stout here! Pours a very dark brown with a small, tan head. A dark beer I could drink all night long...but would have a big headache in the morning with the 5.4% alcohol content. Anyway, a winner!!!
3.5 Dark reddish brown to black and almost opaque. Aroma of chocolate, vanilla, hazelnut, and a little bit of ginger bread. Taste of chocolate, roasted dark malt, and nuts. Many beers like this have coffee or dark chocolate bitterness, but it’s very subtle in this beer. Texture is a bit creamy and medium bodied.
3.1 Poured from bottle into a pint glass Appearance – The beer pours a nearly pitch black color with a one finger head of a tan colored foam. The head fades very fast leaving only a light level of lace on the sides of the glass. Smell- The aroma of the brew is heaviest of a roasted malt with tons of oatmeal and caramel. Other big aromas of a cocoa nature are there as well mixed with some hints of a vanilla and an almost cola like smell to produce a very pleasant and inviting warming aroma overall. Taste – The taste starts with a moderately roasty and sweet flavor with tons of caramel and cola flavors upfront. There is a bit of an oatmeal flavor, which starts out light and remains so throughout to the end of the taste. All the while, as the taste moves forward, the roasted flavor seems to dwindle a bit with it taking on even more cola and a little bit of dark fruit of a more plum like nature. With a little bit of a cherry and some light vanilla coming at the very end, one is left with a moderately sweet and sorta lightly roasted flavor to linger on the tongue. Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is rather thin for a stout of 5.4 % with a carbonation level that is on the average to slightly higher side for a stout. Not really the right feel for the style as it too much accentuated the sweet over the roasted-darker flavor so the brew. Overall – Not really one I cared for all too much, it was too sweet without enough roast and didn’t really have a great body for the style. Ah… just OK.
3.1 Pretty average all the way around. Normal color and aroma, rather dull appearance. Taste is correct for the style, but not too exciting
3.0 Well rounded oatmeal stout but also rather boring. Big and malty, little tan head that fades quick.
3.1 12 oz. bottle from Cash Wise in Watford. Appearance: finger light brown head, light lacing, dark brown-black. Aroma: milk chocolate, oatmeal, light roast, earthy, light coffee, molasses. Palate: full body, average carbonation, oily texture, bitter finish. Taste: subtle sweet milk chocolate into a rather intense molasses malty sweetness, and then into a moderate coffee bitterness. Overall, the beer is not super smooth, and the palate is a little rough for the style in my opinion.
3.4 "the only part of this beer that is lacking is the body, and not by much. it looks like your prototypical stout, has a rich flavor, but a slightly thin feel. Very nice roasted malt finish. A solid oatmeal stout and one of BSs best."
3.6 On Nitro at Rhinoceros in Missoula Black with a medium sized tan head, good lacing. Aroma of roasted malts, coffee and chocolate. Taste of roasted malts and chocolate Nice and tasty
2.8 Draft at Rhinoceros. Black color, briwn head. Aroma is nucely riasty, ciffee and cocoa. Taste is similar. Light body.
2.7 bottle from Hazel’s beverage world. Pours dark brown with a thin white head. a bit of roasted malt on the nose. Can’t say I’m getting much lactose on the tongue. It’s just tastes like a regular ass stout to me and kind of boring
3.0 Bottle, deep, almost opaque brown/red, skiff of tan foam. Aroma roasty malt, coffee, raisin. Taste dark roast malt, cola, coffee, finish dry. Palate a little light, carbonation average. Mildly sweet in the middle, slightly dry finish.
3.5 HAve not had a bad oatmeal stout yet and this one is middle of the pack. Not too milk flavored and has little coffee or chocolate tones. Easy to drink and pours black in color with a tan head.
3.9 Pours a dark brown color with khaki colored head. Roasted malt, oats, and cocoa on the nose; follows onto the palate. Finishes with more roast.
3.1 Bottle pours a cola looking brew with a fizzy off white top. Nose is roasty with hints of chocolate. Taste is mild roastiness. Thin. Meh
3.6 A light, roasty, slightly caramel taste. Fine mocha colored head. The aroma is present, but minimal.
3.5 Bottle shared with ur mom...Black pour with kaki head...very light coffe aroma with light fkavir...ok i guess
3.1 Draught at Collective on Tap, Woodinville, WA Black color with brownish head. It’s a bit bready, dry, with some dulce de leche caramel style, and ordinary bitterness. Different.
2.9 Bottle pours a clear dark brown. Quick fizy head and no real lacing. Dark malty roasted aroma. A bit of soot and ash tray. Mild roasted flavors with a little chocolate. Was expecting a fuller body and smoother feel for an oatmeal stout. Rather dry and quick palate.
2.6 This brew pours a dark ruby with absolutely no head at all. No lacing, no head, the aroma of smelly feet and raisins coming from the glass is intriguing and unfortunate at the same time. The first sip weakly announces a thin, mostly flat and dull experience on the tongue, and the second brings in a roasted malt that barely makes up for the initial bad foot smell. The liquid is thin for an stout and not nearly as creamy as a fine oatmeal stout. The flavor is actually not too terribly bad and I’m enjoying the afterward, but that’s all I’ve enjoyed about this one.
3.1 bottle. Black with small head. Very malty base, but a bit on the thin side. Average or a bit below.
2.4 Fall 2011 A: Pours dark brown with less than a finger of transient latte foam which leaves a scratched mirror surface with a border of foam. No lace. When available near excellent clarity. S: Oats, bitters, roasted malts, earthy hops (faint), slight sweetness. T: Semi bitter with some earthy flavors from the malts. Slight american ale yeast flavor. M: thin for the style with moderate carbonation. Semi dry finish. O: Meh, not at all impressive for the style. Serving type: bottle 10-10-2011
3.5 12 oz Bottle. The beer pours to a black color with a small tan head. The aroma is malty, roasty, coffee, deep caramel flavors. The taste has a nice slightly sweet upfront taste followed by a rich finish. Overall a good Stout.
