This top fermented beer is a free interpretation of a Pale Ale. It is deep copper in color, generously hopped (it contains more than ten different types of hops including the American Chinook, Cascade and Simcoe delivering its citrusy and exotic aromas) with a lightly toasted caramel flavor that perfectly balances its bitter finish.
A beer I have always craved. To all those obsessed by Ales like me.
A.F.O. is my second creation. It was launched on the market together with VIA EMILIA at the end of March 2007. The story behind this beer dates back to January 2006 when, for the first time, I came across the new and irresistible character of American hops. Despite the initial excitement, I soon realized that my dream pale ale aimed to express something different. Thus, I challenged myself to create a complex bouquet that would end up being unusual and enticing. The investigation in the field of hop aromas (which may never end) lead me to England and Germany. I also experimented with hop varieties from New Zealand. Despite this, A.F.O.’s unmistakable character will never change.

3.2Bottle at home. Aroma is caramel malt, toffee, some yeast, fruity notes, biscuit, some floral hops. Flavour is moderate sweet and bitter. Body is medium. Sweeter and more malt-forward than I’d hoped, but certainly an agreeable easy beer.

3.3Bottle sample at Ariel’s place. Thanks Tom C. Hazy orange. Aroma of citric (some tangerine) and floral hops, slightly stale. Flavor has some sweetish malt, citric and floral hops and a bitterish finish. Medium-bodied.
3.5ASPETTO: ambrato abbastanza torbido, con schiuma bianca, fine, abbondante e persistente. AROMA: buon citrico, erbaceo e luppolato. CONCLUSIONE: interessante birra, dall’amaro predominante. Disseta e ripulisce bene.
2.6Tap @ Bishops Folkis.
Hazy brownish amber, off white head.
Caramel, bread, oranges and lychee, sweet ripe pear, slight hay. A bit muted aroma.
Taste is oranges and peach with some bread and caramel, low woody bitterness. Soft and a bit dull finish.
Medium to light body with low but "electric" carbonation, watery.
A bit weak overall. Could have needed som more hops to compensate the rather thin body and short flavour.
3.9rothy white head. Amber color. Dry with lots of band aid note. interesting.
3.1belle couleur cuivre. odeur fruité et légèrement houblonnée. amertume peu présente, notable en fin de bouche.
3.633 cl bottle. Hazy orange with small beige head. Fruity aroma with notes of hops. Sweet flavour of caramel, very dry, some bitterness at the end
3.533cl bottle from Grand Cru, Rimini. It pours a clean pale golden color with a medium white head, Aroma is crispy and citrusy, with light notes of caramel grains, hay, ripe peaches, grass, citrus peel grapefruit and violets. Taste is crispy, refreshing, herbal and grassy, with notes of violets, citrus peel, grapefruit skin, ripe peaches, caramel, wet soil and dried leaves. Light bodied with good carbonation. Overall, tasty pale ale
3.1Review based on the BJCP2008 guidelines (style 10A, slightly adapted). Bottle 33 cl - Batch L338 12. AROMA: hop aromas with citric notes mixed with caramelized malt and some esters (orange). it also has a port like quality. APPEARANCE: amber color and very hazy with material in suspension. medium ivory head with good retention. TASTE: flavours similar to the aromas but much more restrained. floral hop notes with a nice malty balance. low bitterness with a medium-sweet finish. PALATE: thin body with medium-low carbonation. OVERALL: a different interpretation of an APA with more mild flavours and bitterness.
3.7amber with a fluffy head. Aroma is grassy and somewhat earthy. Mouthfeel is dry, nice medium bitterness. Balanced. Very good.
3.4A gushing bottle, pours a fairly dark amber-orange, hazy, with a large off-white head. Aroma is sweet, toasted malts, noble hops and some grapefruit and peach. Flavour is sweet, spicy, toffee, hops. Grapefruit. A light body with lively carbonation. Interesting and different but not amazing.
3.3Bottle, exactly on the "best before" day.
Nice amber/orange color, hazy, with very big head. Smell is fruity, peach, apricot, something exotic, and also some caramel malt. Taste is instead very lemonish, citric, even tart.
The low carbonation doesn’t help, it reminds to me also the tea. I would like some more gas.
Not bad, ok beer, but not my favourite.
3.0frothy white head. Amber color. Dry with lots of band aid note. Not exciting or interesting.
3.2Small bottle at a tasting, props to Beerlover_ben. Pours clear orange with an off-white head. Aroma is lightly smokey and hoppy. Light palate. Watery body, taste is a tad akward; smoky hoppy tea.

3.5Bottle @ il molo, Ranco. Ambrato carico, quasi ramato, opalescente. Schiuma beige fine poco persistente. aroma intenso, fruttato, agrumato (scorza di pompelmo) e resinoso. sicuramente dry hopped. Note secodnarie di caramello, malto e frutta secca/tostata. Gusto secco, amaro, poi maltato che ricorda il caramello, lievissimo retrogusto tostato. Corpo medio, carbonatazione alta, spigolosa senza eccessi, poco calda, astringente. equilibrata ed armonica.
3.3.33l bottle at Belgrade tasting. Rich golden, hazed body with firm white head. Mild acidic hop, sweet ale. Good balance.
