Birrificio del Ducato La Luna Rossa

Birrificio del Ducato La Luna Rossa

Blend of Krisopolis (a new beer, that will be available in the future, fermented in barrels for 2 years, then Morello cherries are added to it), with a part of Ultima Luna (Barley Wine matured in Amarone barrels, with Marasca Morello cherries) and a part of young beer.

First brewed in 2009 and bottled in 2011.

3.2 33cl pullo @Tuulensuu, BBE 2042, lotto: 2012. Bott.n.2261. Ruskeantummanpunainen väri, hapokas, kupliva, mutta lähes vaahdoton. Tuoksu intensiivisen kirpeä alkuun, sitten pehmenee, omenaisa, kanelia, kirsikkaa, alkoholia. Suutuntuma hapan, limaisa, maustekurkkuisa, etikkaa, väkiviinaa, semikuiva, mausteisa.
3.6 (Bottle) Red colour with brief, bubbly head. Fruity, acetic nose with notes of balsamic vinegar, caramel, cherries, oak wood, dried apricots, honey, hints of cinnamon and nuts. Fruity, tart taste with sour cherries, oak wood, balsamic vinegar, raspberries, dried apricots, honey, cinnamon and a sour, acetic finish. Medium body, with a touch of sweetness. Low bitterness. Tasty and fairly well balanced, despite the intense vinegar acidity. Nice one.
4.0 Cuvée 2011. 2mm white head, red-brown body. Nose: Vinegar, barnyard, cherries, red wine and aged cheese. Taste: Cherries, vinegar, raspberries, aged cheese, red apples and a hint of red wine. Complex. Semi-long ending.
4.2 Cuvee 2010. Opened January 2017. Pours red amber with a no head. Aroma is vinous with clear cherry tones. Good. Tastewise its is on the sweeter side. Mildly sour with a long duration. It has some kind of smokey aftertaste as well. It reminds me of smoked food and whisky somehow. Lovely. Medium bodied, Sticky/oily texture, almost no carbonation. Would definitely recommend this one to those who love sour ales.
3.7 Na kranie w Craft&Draft Amsterdam: Piwo lekko metne w kolorze czerwono pomaranczowym nalewa sie praktycznie bez piany. W aromacie beczka, wisnie i ocet winny. Jesli ktos lubi mega kwasnosc to musi sprobowac.
3.5 Backlog, ocena przepisana z untappd, w ramach uzupełniania profilu na ratebeer. Potężnie octowe.
2.9 330 ml bottle. Pours and ugly turbid brown with no head. Aromas of vinegar and oak. Flavors of green cherries, vinegar and oak. Salty
3.7 BB log, bottle, hazy amber appearance with small to medium head. Notes of tart cherry, red wine, italian amaretto, vinegar, raisin and dark cocoa. Medium in body with plenty of tartness on the sides of tongue. I’m enjoying this one for the most part.
3.3 375mL bottle, pours an opaque dark pinkish orange with almost no head. Aroma brings out lots of vinegary notes, stone fruits and acidity. Flavour is along the same lines, with stone fruits, vinegar and acidity on the finish. Perfumey, acetic finish. Solid stuff, albeit harsh.
2.9 330ml bottle [2013 vintage], pours a cloudy dark red/brown. Nose of sour, caramel malt, tart cherry, and red wine. Flavour sour, fruity/cherries, red wine, and vinegar.
3.2 Bottle - Sour acidic and Vinngar cherry. Cloudy maroon. Lots of sweet cherry acidity. A bit too much acidity and not enough complexity.
3.6 Purplish-brown, fairly muddy. No head. The aroma is hugely acetic, with a blast of cherry. This has a lot of cherry character, sweetness, and the acetic is still there, but nowhere as prominent as it was on the nose.
2.7 Pours a red colour with no head. Aromas of cherry, barrel, and a bit of vinegar. Quite acetic and vinegar-y. Very light body. No carbonation. Not for me.
3.4 Draft sample at Craft&Draft Amsterdam, The Netherlands. Time to taste event. 05.07.2016. Taste with adamnowek. Pour it cloudy red color with no head. Aroma balsamic vinegar, tart. Taste really kick tart sour taste, some saltines in the middle, really too much aggressive tart note for my opinion, dry finish, medium body, sticky, average carbonation, long finish.
3.8 330ml bottle. (2013 vintage) Pours a cloudy dark red with no head. Sweet aroma of caramel malt, tart cherry, red wine and oak. Sweet, fruity flavour of cherries, caramel malt, red wine, oak, vinegar and light brett with a dry, tart, acidic finish. Medium body with an oily texture and flat carbonation. Very nice.
3.6 Bottle (2013 vintage). Virtually no head. Body is cloudy dark reddish-amber. Aroma is lightly to moderately malty (cookie/pastry, caramel, toasted grain), lightly yeasty (cobwebs), with notes of golden raisins, cherry, oak, lemon juice, sumac, dried strawberries. Flavor is moderately sweet, heavily acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, heavily acidic, lightly to moderately bitter. Medium body, watery texture, soft/flat carbonation, lightly alcoholic. Another solid brew here from Ducato. While it doesn’t look like much and the mouthfeel is watery with almost no carbonation, it makes up for those weak points with a surprisingly interesting and enjoyable nose (the distinct note of sumac, which I use in cooking, is rare and cool) and the same sort of nearly tear-inducing sourness (but still delightful balance) of Baciami Lipsia. In a blind tasting, I would absolutely say this is a (low-carbonation) Flemish red ale, and quite a nice one (at least in the most important categories). Also very surprised this is 3 years old...zero cardboard or sherry or walnut shells or anything else resembling oxidation/staleness...but that of course is the magic of acidity, the #1 key to longevity in wine and beer alike. Too expensive to buy again, but a fun beer for sure and further proof that Ducato has skills.
1.3 Aroma: cherry, wine, vinegar, some strange off-aromasTaste: heavy sour, vinegar, cherryTotally spoiled and undrinkable (probably it happened only to my bottle, because cap wasn?t properly sealed)
4.3 I must admit I did not review this when I first tried it about 18 months ago and I enjoyed this bottle more from my memory of it back then. Pours with very little to no head which dissipates quickly anyway. A murky red cherry colour with brown hues. On the nose you can tell it’s a sour but a nice mellow sweet wood barrel scent is also present, only a slight whiff of cherry. Quite soft on the palate and a surprising bit of carbonation adding to the mouth feel despite it’s seemingly lack in the glass. Morello cherries are highlighted together with sour apricot and other mature fruits and wood. Low acid for this style as the fruit malt seems to balance it out a bit. Quick hit of sourness but not the cheek pulling effect of some. As it warms up the sour becomes more gentle and the flavours tend to cooperate. Very enjoyable and I am of the opinion if I get my hands on more of these I will cellar them for a while. I suggest this be enjoyed at at leat 12 degrees or even room temperature, mine did not last that long.
4.1 Smells of red fruits, vinegar, overly riped fruit and wine. Cloudy and red beer with little head. Taste is very sour. Also lots of cherries and tones of wine. Surprisingly neutral aftertaste. A little thin body.
3.2 Bottle from crafty bottle, Lincoln. Deep rose colour with a thin pinkish head. Aroma berry fruit, balsamic vinegar, sharpe fruity. Taste mid acidic. Medium body.
4.2 Incredibly cloudy raspberry colour, like a melted sherbet. Aroma is balsamico, raspberries, and some white wine. Taste is hugely sour with some sour cherries with a hint of almond and a lasting vinegary finish. Tart as fuuuuuuck.
4.0 2011 Bottle, from Systembolaget. Hazy reddish brown with a quickly diminishing white head. Funky aroma and taste with cherries, acetone, sour raspberries, oak, almond and balsamico. Soft, tart finish.
3.8 Kolor: brunatny, zmętniony, woda z kałuży. Piana: niska, szybko znika. Zapach: sporo wiśni, czerwonych owoców, estrów, trochę rozpuszczalnika, lekkie aromaty korzenne. Smak: wytrawne, cierpkie, taniniczne, ściągające, również sporo czerwonych owoców, wiśni, lekka nuta korzenna, dość intensywna kwaśność. Wysycenie: wysokie, wylatuje z butelki.
Nuty winne i beczkowe. Bardzo fajne! Z pewnością do powtórzenia!
3.6 Bottle. Slow gusher. Pours a murky pink-hued brown aroma. Aroma is balsamico, acetic acid, red berries, boozy cherry notes and hints of stone pits and coca-cola, wood and almonds. Taste is sour balsamico notes, cherries, horsey stable tones, wood, vanilla and hints of cherry pits, sawdust and raisins. Medium body, high carbonation. Nice and original sour from Ducato; rough, rustic and intense.
3.8 hazy reddish with a pink head - Sour wood and some bery notes - Gentle sour wood and berries - The sourness and berries goes into a long finish - This was good
