Birrificio del Ducato Verdi Imperial Stout

Birrificio del Ducato Verdi Imperial Stout

Top fermented beer which is subjected to a secondary fermentation in bottle. It is deep dark ebony in color with a cappuccino head. The nose has aromas of chocolate, licorice, coffee grounds and tobacco with alcohol nuances. Its full bodied, long lasting, smooth and dry mouth is followed by a surprisingly hot finish that breaks its initial fullness and makes you crave more!

It is suitable for aging.

Dedicating one of our beers to Giuseppe Verdi was a must since our microbrewery is located in Roncole Verdi, the composer’s birth place. When I returned from my first visit to New York City I decided to create a beer that would be superior in elegance, balance and drinkability to all those stout varieties I had overseas. Although the initial recipe has changed, the very first batch matched my vision.
Its uniqueness lays in the use of chili pepper which combines very well with the beer’s chocolate aroma. The hot finish also lightens its full bodied mouth by awakening the palate.

Verdi Imperial Stout is the first Italian craft beer to have ever been crowned with a gold medal in its category at an International beer contest. In 2008 it ranked first at The European Beer Star in the Imperial Stout category.

Wytrawne, lekko kwaskowe. Ale wszystko bardzo przyjemnie zbalansowane. W posmaku lekkie pieczenie w ustach, jakby było z papryczkami.
3.7 Sample during the "Birthday Bottle Share!" on 09/21/2018. Brown-black color with a medium tan head that recedes quickly to an outer ring. Small patches of lace. Roast malt, chocolate and coffee in the nose. Medium body with flavors of charred malt, coffee and chocolate. The finish is roasty with a malty aftertaste. Above average overall.
3.8 Bought at DeBierkoning in 2013, fresh date 2023. SErved in a snifter glass. Black colouor, no head, just some little bubbles that don't hold for three seconds. No lace. Aroma is rich, complex, licorice, prunes, a bit of chili (not much), coffee, chocolate, ripened fruits. Body is a bit of a deception, too light I think. Oily texture, no carbonation. Sweet and dry finish. Taste of molasses, licorice, coffee, chocolate, prunes, chili. Good beer but it lacks of some strength in tongue, IMO.
4.0 From backlog. Taster at Haand Frstival. Black with brown head. Roasted malts, Chocolate, and coffee. Sweetness.
Difficile da dimenticare come sapore (in senso positivo)
4.0 Black color with big dark brown head. Roasted malt, coffee and chocolate aroma. Light bitter taste with sweet aftertaste.Quite flavorful and long lasting.
3.9 On tap at the Italian Job, black with a tan crema and aromas of coffee and a little tart treacle. Rich and thick, with spicy dry roastiness. Chilli bite over a distant sweetness and palate-drying burnt-bitterness. Fascinating!
3.7 Aroma: roasty, coffee Appearance: black, clear Taste: medium sweetness, lightly bitter, medium sourness, slight alcohol Palate: medium body
Piana obfita, wynikajaca z mocnego nagazowania, po chwili znika. Kolor czarny. Aromat gorzka czekolada, kakao.
3.7 Sample at BAJT cons 2017-10-22 Göteborg as part of Porterveckan AR: heavy smoked, roasted malt, wee coffee F: heavy smoked, rich carbonated, black peppery, roasted malt, caramel, dry sweet mouth feeling
Wysycenie niskie, pasuje. Piwo charakteryzuje średnie ciało, fakturę ma oleistą.
3.9 18-Sep-17 (330-ml bottle, Best By 15-Mar-10, Lot # 246: Obtained 09-Jun-09 in trade with bodgi1, thanks Juha!) This Imperial Stout pours a black body and a thin, bubbly, tan head that settles quickly to a bubbly ring. The nose is moderately roasty, with notes of molasses, dark chocolate, ash tray, lightly roasty coffee, and lightly burnt meat. Very enticing. On the palate, roasty and chocolatey flavors abound, with molasses, ash tray, licorice, a hint of spicy heat as if there were some hot peppers here. A quick check on the ingredients, and apparently they did add chili peppers, so not only is it present, it's gentle rather than heavy handed, so the heat remains just a perfect background touch. The beer is full bodied but not heavy, the carbonation is light-medium, and the mouthfeel is smooth yet slightly zesty from the chili pepper. Overall, this is a very nice Imperial Stout from Italy. I haven't had much luck with Italian beers, so this has been a very pleasant surprise. Roasty, chocolatey flavors are enjoyable and the chili addition is a nice touch.
4.0 33 cl. no bottling date evident. Ebony with a thin creamy film on top. Nose is dark chocolate, bread dough, molasses, fig and a touch of soy. Tastes of fig, dark chocolate, bread and toffee with a nice drying undercurrent of earthy roasted pepper and tingly capsaicin. Medium-plus bodied with smooth medium fizz and a delicate, drinkable balance with the dry finish provided mostly by the dark roast and chilis.
3.9 Dec. ’16. On tap at Be.Re, Rome, with ippopotamo36. It poured a hazy dark brown body with medium sized, brown head. Very fine and complex aroma of chocolate, cappuccino, dried fruit, brown sugar, wood, cinnamon, pepper and some similar spices, licorice and some sweeter liquor barrel, bourbon or brandy. Flavor was lightly sweet at first with cooked dark fruit and chocolate, fine caramel, licorice etc. with light spicy herbal and peppery note rapidly building up to a hot spicy chili bite in the finish. Although much more modest than aroma would suggest, it was a full bodied brew. Quite an interesting IS, not coffee oriented, rather sweeter, straightforward chocolate dominated with an extra surprise in finale. Quite pleasant, thumbs up!
3.9 the aroma is caramel and chocolate with hints of robust, cocoa, toffee, licorice and brown sugar... the taste is caramel and fruity with notes of roasted malt, brown chocolate, toffee, pimento, coffee, toast and some spices... the aftertaste is sweet, dry and very spicy...
4.1 Dark brown beer with lot’s of very thick and sticky brown head, stays. Aroma is malt, coffee, alcohol, spices, chocolate. Taste is a bit sour, little sweet, malt, chocolate, lot’s of pepper. Aftertaste is hot chilly, coffee. Full body. Very interesting beer, though it is not a typical Imperial stout. Drinkable but that chilly aftertaste is very long.
3.9 toast, alcohol, licorice, woody, smoke, earthy, roasty, cognac, brown, hazy, minimal head, tan foam, light sweetness, medium bitterness, salty, medium body, creamy, oily feel, flat, bitter hot peppery finish,

3.8 Ron came over with this and it may have been my fave, we shall see what the numbers say. Very drinkable, very balanced. Lots of licorice in the nose. Taste is very roasty. Palate seems very balanced, taste is appealing and quenching. Appearance is spotty lacing with a swirling top head.
4.1 On tap at Brasserie Beck, Washington DC on 08-Mar-2017. Dark brown in colour with a medium sized beige coloured head. Aroma of cocao nibs, coffee beans and spices. Full body and soft carbonation. Taste of roasted malt, chocolate and coffee followed by a long spicy chili burn. Excellent.
3.7 Pours black with low tan head. Aroma of chocolate, vanilla and coffee. Taste is sweet, mild chili boozy, light vanilla and chocolate finish. Rich and creamy body with soft carbonation.
