Birrificio del Ducato VIÆMILIA (Via Emilia)

This bottom fermented beer is golden yellow in color with floral and herbaceous hop aromas (due to the use of Tettnang Tettnanger blooming hop variety personally selected during harvest time). The finish is sharp with a hoppy bitterness and hints of acacia honey.

Elegant, balanced and gratifying: there is always room for her!

La VIÆMILIA being my first creation, is considered by many our signature brew.
Although it may appear a simple lager, its brewing is the longest and most delicate. It is cellared for at least 6 weeks, out of which the first week is for primary fermentation and the remaining 4 to 5 for lagering at 3◦C to allow the young beer to refine. During this last phase hop flowers are added.
Every year, at the beginning of September, we travel to personally select hops from the farmers of Tettnang (a small village in the south of Germany renowned for cultivating high quality aroma hops).VIÆMILIA unravels such extraordinary floral and herbaceous hop aromas due to the dry hopping process.

Manuel was inspired to call it VIÆMILIA since this beer is an anthem to our land, oppressed by thick fogs during the winter and withered by a merciless sun during the summer afternoons. The verses of a poet from Bologna helped me to put into words the mental image of a lazy day in June.

3.5 This is a backlog rating from 2011 from a bottle shared by Tmoney99, from notes. When I had this beer it was average to below average for the style and not something I wanted to have again or I just didn't get back to my notes because of my technology at the time. Words to describe this beer are malty, floral and spicy hops, decent.
3.3 15/IV/19 - 33cl bottle from Delhaize, shared @ home, BB: 1/VI/19 - (2019-558) Little cloudy blond beer, big creamy irregular white head, pretty stable, adhesive, leaving a nice lacing in the glass. Aroma: some citrus, bit herbal, little yeasty, slightly fruity. MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: malty start, bit sweet, fruity touch. Aftertaste: soft bitterness, bit herbal, malty, grains.

3.5 Tap. Hazy golden color with white head. Aroma is bready malts, cereals, herbal hops, quite a nice Kellerbier flavour. Taste is the same, but a bit sweet bready, a touch grainy. Silky mouthfeel with natural carbonation. Fun!
3.2 Keg at beaverfest. Pours golden, nose is floral, custard, toffee, taste is toffee, oak, creamy.
4.3 Bottle poured a clear yellow with a lasting white head. Aromas of straw, yeast and fruitiness. Palate was light bodied and smooth with a dry finish. Flavors of straw, fruitiness and light yeast with a smooth dry lingering fruity finish.
3.5 330ml bottle Light gold with Huge head. Bready/yeasty/citrus aroma. Honey sweetness then quite dry. Not bad.
3.4 Herby floral aroma in a straw pour. Spot on hop malt balance is fruitier than the usual take on the style but viva la difference (no fault/no foul).
4.0 Cerveja bem refrescante, com boa formação de esfuma. Sabor levemente cítrico
3.6 Tap at TCBW 2018. Pours yellow. Aroma is floral, grainy, malty. Flavor is sweet and bitter, floral, grainy, dry. Finish is dry bitter. Overall: good.

3.0 on tap in Marsala
3.2 330ml bottle. Pours a hazy pale yellow with a large, frothy, long lasting, white head that leaves plenty of lace. Aroma of pale malt, floral, herbs, yeast, grass and orange peel. Sweet flavour of grainy malt, caramel, orange peel, floral, honey and yeast with a crisp, dry, hoppy, bitter grass finish. Light to medium body with an oily texture and soft carbonation. Ok.
3.3 Haymaker, Manhattan tap: pours golden with a white head. Aroma is floral and a but bready. Taste is flowery and a bit sweet. Low bitterness. Easy and pleasant to drink.
3.4 6-3-7-4-14 On tap @ What's Brewing 17. Pours slightly hazy pale yellow, with a big creamy head. Aroma is bitter hops, with pine, lemon peel and spicy notes of hay, as well as malts with bread and toffee. Medium body, with soft carbonation. Flavour is bitter hops, with lemon peel, hay and spices, as well as malts with cereals and toffee. Hoppy and refreshing.
3.4 Where: Pizzeria Paradiso, Hyattsville, MD. How: Sampler pour on tap. Appearance: Pours a hazy golden-straw color, not unlike a Wit. Big, slightly off-white, head has very good retention. Aroma: A nice mix of sweet malts (not quite fruity) and grains. There's just a hint of pepper and yeast in there. Taste: Initial flavor is of mildly sweet grains and malts. A fairly strong underlying yeast flavor kicks in after that. The aftertaste is slightly tart and biter; seems to be more from yeast than from the hops. Palate: A very light-bodied beer with moerate carbonation. A bit grainy as well. Self-described as "dry, hoppy pale lager" this is a bit more like a tripel, but devoid of any fruit flavors. The flavor becomes quite intense, and a bit overwhelming.
1.9 Aspetto : giallo paglierino Schiuma : bianca , compatta abbastanza persistente.
3.6 Aromas of cookies and honey with pine and herbs, pours a hazy golden colour with a good sized creamy white lasting head, flavours of sweet honey and a light spicy bitter and dry aftertaste, medium body and refreshing.
2.1 Sampler at Italian Job, Chiswick, London. Light misty yellow golden body with a large beige head. Earthy malts aroma. Taste is sweet and earthy with a stale bitterness. Style typical, but not a style I am particularly fond of. Medium body.
3.3 Bevuta in bottiglia. Colore giallo paglierino schiuma non troppo persistente. Al naso note di miele e aromi naturali. In bocca si sente bene il lievito e la nota di pane. Finale non molto piacevole e che non lascia ricordi.
4.0 Ottima presenza, buona persistenza. Aroma intenso. Esperienza degustativa interessante
3.4 Bottle. Pours cloudy yellow with a large, frothy off-white head, long retention with light lacing. Aroma is heavy sweet Pils malt and medium spicy hops. Flavor is heavy corny Pils malt, medium spicy hops and bitterness with a dry finish. Light body and moderate carbonation.
3.5 Floral, spiced, golden with a good white head quite persistant, light body, medium carbonation, extremely easy to drink, again floral notes, grain, earthy, hoppy dry final...very good.
4.0 Bottle consumed in Kosovo, my last rating here for the moment. Pale hazy golden pout, persistent white foamy head. Nose: citric/grassy attack which turns grapefruit in a way. Peculiar one I would say and quite nice. Mouth: a great execution for a keller which has a citric and bread character. Straw, hay cereals and much bread which comes back in the aftertaste with a sweet honey note. LOVELY
3.5 Draft sample at Craft&Draft Amsterdam, The Netherlands. Time to taste event. 05.07.2016. Taste with adamnowek. Pour it hazy yellow color with small white head. Aroma of grainy feel, some straw really intense. Taste grainy, smooth texture, herbalish on the back, straw again really present, medium body, creamy, average carbonation, abrupt. Nice Keller.
3.9 A ’kellerpils’ as per label. Bright golden colour, moderate haziness, visible carbonation. Thin soapy white head, good retention, low lacing. Wonderful aroma: crackery and cereal base, flowers, herbal/grassy freshness, citric notes (lemon, tangerine) and a hint of spiciness/pricklyness. Clean, fresh and bright. Taste follows, though with a bit less brightness and definition. Good sweet/bitter balance in both taste and aftertaste despite quite strong bitterness for both kellers, pilsners, or whatever this is. There's a bit of lingering sweetness in the finish, but it is a nicely dry finish that makes you longing for another sip. Light body, average carbonation. Simple, easy mouthfeel. Excellent drinkability. Very good beer.
3.7 Bread soft grass and lemon, toast, a little nutty. Hazy golden pour thin white head nice lace. Flavors of bread toast nutty notes herbal hops with hints of grass and lemon. Prickly mineral notes linger in the tongue. Refreshing.
