Birrificio del Ducato Winterlude Tripel

Birrificio del Ducato Winterlude Tripel

Top fermented beer which undergoes a secondary fermentation in bottle. It is intense gold, almost orange in color, with aromas of fruit in syrup (pineapple, peach and apricot), candy sugar, bread crust and a note of chives from the Belgian hops of Poperinge. Warm and sweet on the palate with a firm fizzy finish. Strong and structured, sweet and inviting. A tribute to a friend who went missing, who we may meet again one day, just like the sun that is hiding behind the hill.

Winterlude is also named after a Bob Dylan song, a perfect fit since it is a winter warmer. The idea of winter as an interlude representing both the pause before awakening and the oblivion before new life.

This beer is inspired by some varieties of the Belgian Tripels. The hops come from the Poperinge region, a variety I have always been fascinated by. I connected with one of the region’s local farmer and had him set a preferred variety aside from his most recent harvest.

Because it combines incredibly well with food, Winterlude has always made us proud with our catering industry clients.

3.5 Dark golden/light orange, moderately hazy. Not too much of a head, expecially for the style, still holds well enough though, with nice lacing. Aroma is mainly sweetly fruity (peach most prominent), with honey notes and a grassy/herbal, slightly prickly touch to bring balance. Overall not too intense. Taste has a light white bread foundation, honey, sweet fruity notes as per aroma. A hint of refreshing grassiness is kinda on the back of things, but always present. Finish is sweet but nicely clean. Overall it's definitely sweet but still feels balanced enough. Medium bodied with medium to high carbonation, possibly a tad lower than usual per style, resulting in a quite smooth mouthfeel for the style. A nice, easy going tripel.
3.7 Dégustée à l'hiver 2011-2012 (de mes notes). .
3.9 the aroma is fruity and malty with hints of citrus, yeast, wine and some spices... the taste is fruity and malty with notes of light wine, yeast, orange peel, flowers and bisquit... sweet, dry and bitter aftertaste...
3.9 Deep hazy golden with a small light beige head. Aroma is citric and red fruits (strawberry, peach, apricot, lychee, oramge, grapefruit) with floral notes, some biscuit and yeast... Very complex. Taste is very citric/sweet with herbal bitterness (mint, lemongrass), pale malt. Bittersweet aftertaste. Warming and a bit spicy.
3.6 De coloração laranja, espuma creme de boa formação e persistência. Aroma de abacaxi, laranja. No sabor, frutas amarelas, caramelo, com médio dulçor e amargos. Amargor persistente e agradável no final. Muito boa.
3.6 Tap at Luppolo Station, Rome-Italy. Cloudy golden bright, medium-low foam...little retention many drafts. Nose: sweet candy fruits, panettone, orange jam. Mouth: medium-high frizzy carbo, sugary, fruity with some (hidden) spiciness.
3.6 Bottle. Pours cloudy dark gold with a medium, frothy white head, medium retention with good lacing. Aroma is moderate coriander, floral hops and biscuit malt. Flavor is moderate floral coriander with biscuit malt, light floral hops and medium bitterness with a dry finish. Full body and medium carbonation.
3.8 Large rocky creamy offwhite head. Good lacing. Mostly diminishing. Hazy thick ochre body. Aroma: light malty, citrus orange, soap, alcohol, mango. Initial flavor: moderate sweet light bitter. Final flavor: moderate sweet bitter; long duration. Palate: medium body, watery/oily texture, lively carbonation and moderate alcoholic finish. : leve aroma de banana. Leve presence maltada no aroma lembra mel. Esters are reminiscent of citrus fruit such as orange, moderate. moderate spicy hop character is usually found. Deliciosa cerveja. 160 s
3.3 Tap at Castle Tap, Reading. 01/12/16Vague musky aroma. Apple skins. Hazy yellow. Creamy, if thin, white head. Initial alcohol hit which overpowers everything else. Bitter. Sour. Light bodied. Warming on a winter night.
Trochę estrów owocowych - głównie brzoskwinie i skórka pomarańczy. Dużo więcej jest natomiast pieprzu i piakantnych przypraw w tle. W zasadzie to chyba tyle. Ubogo. Jast też silna strona belgijskich drożdży i odrobina zbożowości. Fajne połączenie owocowej strony piwa, estry owocowe (pomarańcze, mandarynki, morele i brzoskwinie) z przyprawowymi fenolami (lekki goździk i czarny pieprz).
3.5 Clear golden with yeast particles. Aroma: spices, grape, flower. Light sweet, light to moderate-bitterness. Very light body. Flavour: spices, flowers, white wine. Good.
3.6 Draft sample @ Haand fest ’16, Drammen. Shared with the Norwegian tasting crew.
3.8 Aroma sweet of pineapple and malts. The taste is well balanced between the sweet of fruits and the bitter of hops. Has an spiced ending.
Good one !
3.3 Bottle. Golden-straw, weak white foam. Aroma: white wine, fruits (peach, pineapple), malt, a little perfume. Taste: malt, dry sherry, wood, a little alcohol and hop bitterness.
3.6 bottle at home. Pours clear golden with a steady huge head, nice creamy head by the way. Straightforward belgian yeast and pine European hops in the nose. Rich body, a tad sweet, nice mellow green bitters, dry finish, a bit of cheesy hops. Taste is crisp malts and the typical triple yeast. A nice fusion of Westmalle & a more mellow sweeter blond tripel.
2.6 330 ml super-gusher of a bottle. Pours a clear straw with a resilient white head. Aroma is pepper, spice, sweetbread and pear. Flavor is pepper, mint. Finish is very bitter, loads of oldish. Very grassy and boozy. Medium to full body. Big time drain pour...
3.5 Bottle as a New Year’s gift from Jan of Weerspannige Brouwers, cheers mate! Quite heavy gushing but manageable, I did not lose a lot of volume... Thick and frothy, egg-white, initially dense, lacing head thinning gradually; hazy peach blonde colour with somewhat ochre hue and a ’fog’ of dead yeast particles equally divided throughout the liquid. Aroma of dried orange peel, Grand Marnier, baker’s yeast, heavy cooked banana and banana bread (Hefeweizen-like!), mango, soap, butterscotch, canned apricot, sugared apple, white pepper, freshly cut sorrel, rhubarb, old cake, fairly strong clove-like phenols. Spritzy onset, a tad overcarbonated perhaps, with refreshing redcurrant sourishness, impressions of apple peel, banana and mandarin peel, supple body, yeasty spiciness playing over a background of caramelly and honeyish malt sweetness, bit phenolic but actually fitting into the whole quite well; white candi sugar sweetness is there but not overly so. Finish is malty, juicy and phenolic in the ’good’ (spicy) sense of the word, along with peppery hops with a nice, aromatic bittering quality, as well as residual yeastiness (a little bit ’meaty’ even) and, unexpectedly, warming, gin-like alcohol. Not the most refined Ducato beer I had, but certainly credible as a Belgian tripel (of the sweet side of the style), the ’spirit’ of which these Italians managed to capture quite well, though it does seem a bit more ’exotic’ than average. The flavour deScription on the label is very much to the point as well.
3.6 On tap at the Italian Job, faintly hazy dark gold, with a lacing head. Aromas of honey, banana and cloves remind me of a Weizenbock rather than a Tripel. Dry-sweet and fruity, with more notes of light honey, hints of peach and orange, and lightly peppery and grassy hops.
4.0 Bionda, schiumosa, debolmente torbida. Fruttata, speziata, mielosa, floreale: buona nell’aroma e nel gusto. Buona tripel di corpo medio.
3.4 330 ml. bottle. BBF is unreadable. Hazy orange, small touch bigger white bubbles. Nose is overly heavy on esters, sweetish grain, dried orange peel, some dusty spices. Carbonation is a bit sparkling, rather heavy carbonation. Taste is dusty, esters, there is some slight vanilla sweetness, almost fish guts, phenolic, touch pepper, paper, dough phenolic apples. Technically aptly made but the more time passes the more I seem to dislike these kinds of phenolic, estery, grainy, sparkling Belgians. There is something about that just puts me off, there is some slight vanilla sweetness to this one that makes it slightly more interesting & there is nothing technically wrong with it. Acceptable let us say. It did feel a bit old to me, touch oxidized. It is named after a Bob Dylan song (one that is equally cute & silly for me) so that is nice.
