3.6 12 oz bottle shared at Cafe Spice in Truckee. Black appearance with a light tan head. Chocolate, roasted malts, coffee, mild earthy hop bitterness and light sweetness. Medium body with a smooth, creamy feel and a dry finish. Tasty.
4.1 Poured from a 12 OZ bottle into a pint glass at a TacoMac in Douglasville, GA. Aroma- Big malt aroma, real good aroma. Appearance- Black with a small tan colored head. Taste- Nice faint chocolate flavor with roasted malt. Palate- This is a medium bodied beer with mild carbonation. it has an oily texture that fits the flavor. Overall- A nice flavored stout for me. I really enjoyed this brew.
4.5 This is my favorite stout to get when I can find it at a local store :) It’s so chocolatey but at the same time the bitterness of it balances very well. It doesn’t run sweet thankfully like some of the chocolate brews I’ve had. The head is creamy and it has a nice toasty aftertaste. It’s one of the most balanced brews I’ve found :)
3.4 12 oz. bottle, pours black with a small tan head. Nose is subtle, with notes of dry bitter cocoa and light roastiness. Flavour is along the same lines, featuring a dry palate of bitter dry cocoa and medium roasted malt. Pretty gentle and smooth -- could use a thicker mouthfeel and a rounder flavour profile, but for a "smaller" stout, this is quite nice.
3.0 color is black with almost no lacing. Aroma is straight forward roasty malts. Taste is kind of neutral with a very dry finish. In fact the bulk of this beer is the finish, which is pleasantly dry, but doesn’t make up for a lack of anything remotely interesting taste wise. It’s pretty boring actually. I wouldn’t drink this again.
1.2 Pours a brown color with tan head. Charred cocoa, charred malt on the nose; follows onto the palate. Very bitter and off-putting.
4.5 very good. Balanced, long flavour; notes of berries and dark fruit. Lots of taste given the low ABV
2.8 Toasted malt nose. Cola brown, headless. Walnut and cardboard flavor. Unftunately the latter is dominant and lingers. Body is medium to ligt, moderte carbonation.
3.3 Aroma of chocolate, taste is milk chocolate, roasted malts, slight bitterness, pretty good!
3.1 Poured from a bottle. The head is a little disappointing, but it has okay lacing and rich brown color that is appealing. It smells better than it tastes, I don’t think that the organic does it any favors.
3.5 Bottle. Dark brown, with a small, light tan head. Aroma is a chocolate, mocha, burnt grains. Taste is a bitter chocolate with undertones of coffee.
3.3 Bottle at Swiss Louis on Pier 39 in San Fran. Poured from my bottle a light black with tan head. The aroma was bitter sweet chocolate, malts, and yeast. Taste was light chcocolate, a malty backbone. Overall a decent beer, I was wishing for more of the chocolatey bittersweet to come through though.
3.1 Pours a deep rich dark brown. Nice dark tan head with long lasting retention. Smells of chocolate and a hint of coffee and wheat. However thin on the palate and tastes a little weak suprisingly.
3.0 "i would not call it "richly textures" or "charismatic", as Bison claims. This beer was a bit of a thin-bodied disappointment, as I’m usually crazy about the style. Underwhelming all around for a choc. stout, it isn’t one I’ll buy again."
3.6 In a bottle at ale house 1890 in Lancaster, Ohio, served in a frosty pint glass. This beer is a rich brown black opaque liquid with a ring of small milk chocolate brown bubbles. Nose is a dry dark chocolate nose. taste is dark chocolate bitters with a nice roasted malt base. Body is silky and luxurious. a very nice stout.
3.2 Single from total wine. Relatively muted flavors and a bit watery. Some roasty malt and rich chocolate flavors. Aroma is a touch of roasty malt. Finish is a little bittersweet. Ok but absolutely better beers out there.
3.6 Poured from bottle to glass. Dark hue with brown creamy head that lingered. Aroma is chocolate, roast, coffee, caramel, toffee. Mouthfeel is nice with a medium body and crisp carbonation. Taste is sweet with a nice astringent bitterness following and a clean finish. Overall this was a nice brew.
3.0 Draft at Sedona. Clear reddish maroon color, small tan head. Aroma of chocolate covered cherries. Taste is light coffee, berries, cherries.
3.6 Aroma: Roast coffee and chocolate with hints of yeast at the edges. Appearance: Black with a rich tan head. Taste: Light sweetness balanced by a light sourness. Palate: Full body, creamy texture, soft carbonation, long finish. Overall: A bit too sour for my taste. A bit disappointing.
3.4 Draft wob. This is the kind of "chocolate" stout I prefer. As opposed to youngs, this one is bitter. Body is full and creamy texture. Aroma is of dark chocolate and roasted barley. Middle is of bitter roasted coffee and cocoa nibs. Carbonation is spritzy and refreshing. Finish is cocoa bitter and lingering slightly sweet chocolate. Overall dry, bitter, chocolatety medium bodied stout.
3.0 Opaque deep dark brown beer with a tinny beige head that barely forms before disappearing. Nose of bitter cocoa, coffee, and burnt sugar. Flavor is more of the same with unsweetened chocolate, espresso, and dark roasted grain, but the flavor is surprisingly subtle with little finish. A bit of bitterness lingers, but not much more. Decent, but not great.
3.8 Black pour with small tan head. Aroma of roasted malts, chocolate, coffee and cocoa. Taste of chocolate, roasted malts, coffee, touch of lactose, cocoa and faint milk sugar. Nice and chocolaty stout with nice carbonation, nicely balanced. Excellent stout!
3.6 Milk chocolatey. Coffee. Sweet. Roasted. Tasty stout. Rounds out nicely. Really light body.
2.8 Bottle split w/ Travlr. Cheers! Chestnut brown with a small head. The nose had some red fruit accents. Mellow chocolate. Not much else. The taste also lacks personality. Thin burnt caramel and roasted coffee. Way over carbed. Not great.
3.5 Interesting but not so chocolate alike in taste. Nice features and some cocoa powder aroma but not much.
2.6 Bottle. Pours a light brown. Mild lacing with a small head. .. Coco, muddy water, and some chocolate kids porridge .. . Overall way to light and just a bit muddled, not my cup of tea .. . . What’s the etiquette when you pull up next to a dude with the same exact car as you? Avoid eye contact? Nod? Wink? Swordfight?
3.5 Hungover bott in hotel room orlando... Deep brown black... Thick tan head... Dry almost nutty roast malt nose... Sweet roast... Little toffee chocolate... Light bitter roast... Chocolate... Ok
3.4 From notes, consumed on 4/7/13. Bottle poured into a tulip pint glass. Pours black with almost a finger of tan head. Aromas of roast, coffee, dark chocolate. Tasting notes of dark and milk chocolates, roast, pretzels. Light body with a semi-dry finish.
3.7 Pours an opaque, oily black into the glass, with a non-retentive head. The nose is chocolates and grapes. Vinous flavors, cocoa, roasted malts, light roasted bitters to finish. The mouthfeel is full-bodied, softly carbonated and very drinkable. Complex, vinous and chocolatey, this is a very nice organic offering! Fresh!
3.6 12oz bottle says 5% ABV (this site says 6.1%). Nice fluffy head that lingers with fast lacing over a nearly opaque and plain dark brown body. Aroma is cocoa with a little coffee seemingly serious and above the swill. Taste is mildly sweet like an oatmeal stout. Finish is bitter. Palate is creamy. Classy like good chocolate. Happy to have the six-pack from the store that stocks it.
