BJ's Grand Cru

BJ's Grand Cru

Brewed with imported Belgian malts and a blend of exotic spices, BJ’s Grand Cru has a malty character with a whirlwind of fruit and spice flavors. First brewed to celebrate the new milennium, BJ’s Grand Cru has been a seasonal tradition ever since. This Belgian-style amber ale is bottle-coinditioned and flavorful enough to age in the bottle for many years. Like a fine wine, the beer will change over time as some flavors mellow while others become more pronounced. For optimal aging, we recommend that you store BJ’s Grand Cru for at least one year at between 55 and 65°F. Or enjoy it now!

3.6 On tap - a nose and taste of candied fruits and butterscotch. Very smooth on the palate.
3.6 Draft at the Brewhouse in the Pembroke Pines, FL location for $5.65 Very good!
3.6 BJ’s Grand Cru is a decent seasonal. Bright amber pour with little head. Aroma is light but wheaty. Taste is boozy but with nice wheat notes. Grand Cru is up there but not a subtle Belgian.
4.3 Pours cloudy orange. Thin white head. Aroma of orange juice, banana, apricot, spice and roses. Taste is same with apple and bubblegum. Malts are roasty and smooth. Finish is boozy, hot, spiced and flowery. Mouthfeel is medium, oily and highly carbonated.
3.8 Draft, Maker’s Mark barrel-aged edition. Cloudy apricot, topped with a whisper of pure white froth. Green aroma. Unripe pear, fresh cut grass, green apple, vanilla. Bright, sweet, fruity, refreshing. The flavor goe back and forth. Sometimes it’s too boozy; sometimes it’s perfect. At the moment, it’s got a heavy alcohol flavor tnat hits almost like vodka with heat and harshness at the sides of the tongue. Beer-related stuff is there as well: green apple, pear, roses, vanilla, new oak. A touch of brown sugar and butter from the bourbon as well. Medium-light body, mild carbonation. A little heat on the tongue, with mild bitterness at the finish. Not as hot as 10 percent would suggest. Sneakily boozy. Tasty stuff. Bought a glass then bought a growler.
3.7 Poured up on tap at the Mesa, AZ location with a clear gold body that supports a thin white head. The aroma offers up sugary prunes and peach and a light amount of dates to go along with some Belgian yeasty spices. The taste starts smooth and soft with plenty of sweetness that heads quickly into sweetened spicy Belgian yeastiness. To midway the fruity esters jump forward where I’m getting peach, pear, apple and a sense of dates, honey and light boozy chemical notes that take this into the finish. Nice sipper.
3.0 Draft - Fruit sweet esters and Belgian yeast. Clear gold with a decent white head. Boozy, sweet and very Belgian.
3.7 Clear orange pour with a thin white head. Aroma has strong fruity, spicy, doughy, and banana notes. Taste follows with some boozy notes. Medium body. Pretty good beer.
3.7 Last beer in the flight and easily the 2nd best beer of the night. Surprisingly since I have lost a little interest in Belgian strong ales but this one wasn’t overwhelmed with clove. Instead the nose was all sweet bubblegum and banana, flavor similar phenols, maybe only a hint at clove. Sweet alcohols. Golden color. Could use a little more carb but thats nitpicking.
3.1 On tap at the brewery. Pours a golden color without much head. Malt liquor alcohol taste and a little solvent like.
3.4 The beers pours a golden amber color with a small head. Aroma of malts and mangos come across the nose. Taste starts out sweeter than I expected. There is bubblegum and sugar then some light malts comes through. Easy drinking beer.
3.3 [ As BJ Grand Cru ]. Clear medium orange yellow color with a average, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting, white to off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, pale malt, moderate hoppy - yeasty, flowers, perfume, tropical fruit. Flavour is moderate to heavy sweet with a long duration, sweet sugary fruit, alcohol. Body is medium, texture is oily - creamy, carbonation is soft to flat, finish feel is light alcoholic. [20140516]

3.1 Pours clear golden with a white head. Aroma has notes of malt, yeast, dried fruits, alcohol and sugar. Taste is medium to heavy sweet and light bitter with a long warm and fruity finish. Body is full, texture is oily, carbonation is soft.
3.3 Pours slightly hazy amber with small off-white head. Clear aroma of fruit and malt, with subtle flowery and hoppy notes. Sweetish flavour of fruit and caramel malt, with estery notes and faint touches of hops. Sweet aftertaste. OK but a trifle too sweet for a BSA if you ask me.
3.4 Clear golden with small white head. Aroma is malt, yeast, fruit, spices and perfume. Flavour is malt, yeast, sweet, little sugar, candy, notes of alcohol, little perfume and a little bitter.
3.5 [Tap] Pours a hazy golden color with a nice looking cap of white head. Yeasty aroma is mostly of clove and spicy malts. Taste includes banana, candi sugar, light brown sugar and tropical fruit. Alcohol heat is noticeable but not distracting. Definitely one of the better beers I have had from BJ’s. Tasting notes from 12/2011.
3.5 Yeasty sweet nose. Palate adds some faint citrus and lots of bread notes. pour slowly as mine had a lot of sediment
3.0 750, corked and baled. Pours a hazy dark amber with a loose tan fizzy head that fades quickly. Big cloying sticky sweet nose. Brown sugar and gingerbread cookies. Sticky, slippery medium body. Brown sugar and gingerbread on the mid palate. Way too sweet. Cloying finish.
3.4 It poured a cloudy golden color with a small white head. The aroma was of fresh citrus and other fruits with some spices. The taste was sweet, malty, and a little bit tart. There was plenty of bread, fresh fruit and spices. Very nice.
3.5 White-yellow. A-fruit, grain, one of them provides a sweetness. T-banana, fruity, anise, grain/lt malt.
3.3 Hazy golden color, moderate head, good lace/retention. Aroma is Belgian yeast, sugar, spicy. Medium bodied, finishes sweet but not overly so, alcohol hidden well.
4.3 Smells delicious, sweet to start with a zesty and powerful finish i wish they'd sell it to go I hate waiting a year for it.
2.6 Pours a cloudy straw-golden color with a surprisingly small white head. Mildly spicy and bready nose. Soft mouthfeel that becomes astringent toward the finish. Spicy bread pudding with a booze topping.
3.4 Draft at BJ’s Frederick, MD location served in a tulip glass. Amber-golden color with some white head. Aroma of candy sugar and fruity yeasty notes. Taste adds more malt sweetness, bready, light spices and some alcohol. Heavy body, moderate carbonation, syrupy with sweet finish. Definitely a sweet, yeasty Belgian strong, overall average nice beer.
3.6 Sour pear like aroma with raisin and peppery spice Pours a golden color with low quickly disappearing head Spicy peppery flavor with pear and raisin Medium bodied with medium high CO2 residual sugars coat mouth lingering spice finish Enjoyed this one. Great balance of spice and fruit.
4.0 Great aroma. Very clear appearance. Great flavor, Vertu Belgian in character. Great example of a Grand Cru. Low carbonation, and no lashing though.
