BJ's PM Porter

BJ's PM Porter

This robust dark ale is surprisingly smooth and drinkable. Caramel, molasses and chocolate flavors fill the palate. Its sweet start is perfectly balanced by a roasted dry finish.

2.7 Tap at Charlottesville location. Aroma of light coffee. Taste is sweet raisin, funk, chocolate candy. Wayyyyy too sweet.
3.0 On tap @ BJ’s Restaurant & Brewhouse. Pours a medium brown with a thin white ring. Nice roasted malt aroma. Thin body. Light malt taste with some coffee flavor. Nothing special but OK.
3.4 Draft. Dark brown with a thick tan head with nice retention. Aroma and taste was strong roasted malt and dark chocolate. Thick on the tongue.
3.0 On draft at BJ’s in West Covina. The pour is a medium black with a thick light khaki head and a couple spots of lace. The aroma is pretty bland. There is a light roast and a hint of chocolate, but that’s is. No sweetness, no depth. The flavor is thin and light with more of a metallic malt dominating. There isn’t much happening. Light malts, a hint of chocolate, and a heap of metallic grain thing happening that doesn’t do anyone any favors. The mouth feel is thin and watery with a light carbonation and a real lack of flavors on the back end. The aftertaste is metallic and forced chocolate malts. Interesting, but not a full time beer
3.8 Draft in a flight at BJ’s in the North Hills of Pittsburgh. Probably a lot better than the low ratings indicate, and was really pretty good, especiallypaired with the All Night Burger.
3.6 Draught at the restaurant in Sunvalley shopping mall. Long lasting brown head. Clear dark brown color. Coffee and roasted malty aroma. Smooth roasted malty taste with a bit malt acidity. Medium bitterness and body.
3.1 Pours a black color with a light tan head. Aroma is of roasted malts, coffee, and some chocolate. Flavor is light and creamy with the roasted malts and coffee. Not much lingering flavor.
3.4 dark pour, cream hued head. light body, almost a nitro like mouth feel. some roasted malt, patented malt, balanced sweetness.
3.6 4-5 oz pour on draft at BJ’s (Gainesville, VA location) with a Mustang Sally yelling DCLawyer. Dark brownish black with light tan head. Aromas of coffee, chocolate, roast. Tastes of dark chocolate, caramel, syrup. Medium body with a dry finish.
3.7 Draught. Nice and well balanced porter with an attractive treacle aroma. I went for a BJs flight and this was the pick of the bunch.
2.7 On nitro. Pours up a dark brown, nearly black, with moderate tan head. Slight smoky, roasted aroma. Taste is nutty with a slight smoke and coffee presence. Smooth and creamy from the nitro, but still thin and watery with not enough body. Much lighter palate than expected.
3.6 Sampled on nitro draft at the Frederick MD location this beer poured a black color with a huge creamy beige head that lingered forever and left incredible lacing. The aroma was toasty and a bit smoky with vanilla and coffee notes. The flavor was smooth, toasty, and woody with vanilla cream and light fruity hops. Medium length finish. Moderately full bodied and very creamy. Solid.
3.2 Nitro pour. Murky chestnut, medium creamy beige head, good lacing. Aroma is roasted malts, lactose sugar, light coffee. Flavor is light plus sweet, light bitter, watery with some light roasty notes and not much else. Medium body, watery mouthfeel.
2.1 On nitro tap at BJ’s in Fort Collins. Brown/black appearance with a lingering tan head. The aroma is smoky, burnt plastic, earth and light molasses. Similar flavor, light roasted and vegetal with a meaty, light smoky finish. Way off, I could barely stomach it. Yuck.
3.5 Draught at BJ:s Restaurant and Brewhouse, Brea. Black beer with a nice lasting beige head. Roasted chocolate aroma, coffee, licorice, cocoa powder, some toffee and burnt malts. Roasted coffee flavor, vinous, fruity, cocoa powder. Slightly thin but still a good porter.
3.1 Nitro draft at their Frederick, MD restaurant, opaque dark brown color with light tan head. Aroma notes of roasted malt sweetness, chocolate and faint nuttiness. Taste adds more chocolate syrup, faint coffee and dark fruit. Medium-light body, low carbonation (nitro), creamy with sweet roasty finish. Pretty nice nitro porter, maybe a tad thin.
3.5 21st May 2015: BJ’s Laguna Hills outlet. Part of an eight glass flight. Thought this was the best of the eight beers I tried on the day. Ruby hue to the dark body, on top a lightly tanned foam blanket. Malts all the way here, fairly sweet initially it bottoms out a little drier and roasted latter in the mouth. Hides the alcohol well with it’s depth of flavours. My sweet tooth took to this.
2.2 Subued aroma of malt, a great looking beer, black with well laced tan head. Bland taste of espresso, with a watery feel and a bitter finish.
3.3 [2/21/15] Draught at BJ’s Mission Valley in San Diego. Clear dark brown with a beige head. Aroma of chocolate, roast and nuts. Sweetish flavor, somewhat roasty, with some chocolate. Medium-bodied, quite rounded. A decent one.
2.8 (tap) clear dark amber colour with a small brown head; fant aroma of candy, soy sauce; smooth palate, balanced flavour
1.9 Pours a dark brown with a taupe head that sports excellent retention. Faint dark malt on the nose. Lifeless mouth feel. Watery roasted malt flavors.
3.3 Nitro at BJs, Gainesville, VA. Pours a clear dark burgundy with a medium sized creamy tan head. Decent head retention. Aroma of chocolate, nuts, dark fruits. The taste is chocolate, mild roasted malts, milky notes. Thin bodied.
3.6 Mild coffee and cardboard aroma. Clear brown, thin creamy tan head. Coffee, pecan, woody flavor. Creamy medium body. Decent porter.
3.2 Kind of disappointed in this. It tastes like a pilsner that is porter flavored. It looks really good but just doesn’t have that thick porter taste that I like.
2.9 Draft - Dark roasty malts and light coffee notes. Deep jet brown with a rich beige head. Light watery roast and some coffee notes. Pretty bleh.
3.6 Somewhere between a porter and a dry stout (what’s the difference anyway, they say). Brown tinted red, creamy khaki head. Nose was big on coffee and cocoa, leading to a roasted finish that hinted a bitter hops and bitter/tannic roast malt. Fairly soft palate, creamy texture, seemed almost nitro like but I don’t think it was.
2.4 ポーター うすめ、甘さが欲しい
3.1 Pours dark brown with a dense tan head. Good lacing and head retention. Subtle roast aroma. Roast, coffee, milk chocolate, and vanilla flavors. Medium body with a creamy mouthfeel. The finish is sweet and malty.
2.5 BJ’s PM Porter is a little boring for a porter although it looks beautiful. Rich creamy head that sticks around for the whole beer. It is like the head on a Guinness stout. Pour is the requisite dark. Taste is surprisingly dry -- also like a Guinness stout -- with no detectable coffee, chocolate or molasses notes one would expect in a porter. PM Porter is a miss on the style.
4.1 Actually pretty good. Rich, robust, full-bodied, mouthful slight coffee taste. Almost feels like a coffee shake.
