1.9Piwo ciemne o czerwonych refleksach. Piana beżowa szybko opada z delikatnym lacingiem. W aromacie mokry karton i winogrona. W smaku słodkie i ściągające. Słabe piwo.
3.9Dark brown with a tan head of fine foam. Aroma volume is average, propelling some licorice, anise, molasses, coffee. Some light oxidative notes. Feel is good, lightly oily, bits of astringency, lightly creamy. Slightly sweet. Very pleasant.
3.4Bottle into stout glass. Black but not opaque with tan head. Malty Vegemite chocolate aroma. Similar taste with licorice notes. Some metallic aftertaste. Ok.
3.2Good beer overall. Don't notice any alcohol presence. The body is heavy and syrupy but seems flat to me. Pours a purely opaque black, thin beige head. The nose is mild, roasty, licorice and chocolate. Mild mannered beer overall; big malt profile, roasted bitterness but not too heavy. Nice beer overall.
4.0smager meget af lakrids, der er ingen humle smag. Den første slurk er næsten ren sukker.
3.6Poured from a bottle into a pint glass: Pours dark brown / black with almost no head. Aroma of molasses, roasted malt, raisins. Taste is more of the same, very thick, sweet, but with good flavor. Sip it slowly. Little carbonation, heavy body, a bit cloying, very sticky. It’s alright.
3.5There is some division in this household around this beer. One’s perfectly adequate, cheap, high ABV baltic porter is another’s "garbage water". While the merits of each opinion must lie in the beholder’s eye, one cannot disagree that this beer is pretty easy to come by (at least on the east coast, it can pop up in corner bodegas that have otherwise small selections) and the price is right (I’ve purchased 16.9 oz bottles from $1.40 to $2 over the years). We do agree that it smells good and looks nice. The flavor is thick with burnt molasses and a long syrupy aftertaste. It tastes better the more you drink it, but it doesn’t exactly beg you to chug it down either. Anyway, It’s worth a shot if you see it around and like thicker beers like stouts and porters, but if you’re not already a fan, this won’t convert you.
3.9Very flat, no carbonation. Heavy molasses and syrupy quality, even more as it warmed. Dark black to brown. Thick. Bottle
3.8Bottle shared with Couchsurfers Eric and Griff, cheers! Clear deep amber brown color, tan head. Nice aroma of burnt brownies, licorice, espresso. Taste is licorice and chocolate. Very nice.
3.6Portland, Or - Beaumont Market - 500 ml bottle. Sparkling, dark brown pour, bubbly, long lasting mocha head. Rich chocolate and molasses in the aroma. Bold flavor, anise seed, milk chocolate, some molasses. Mouthfeel is thinner than the flavor warrants.
3.8Not the best baltic porter I’ve had (my preference is for Smuttynose’s version of the style), but this is still a pretty good beer. It pours dark brown with a fair amount of head. The aroma is not strong but it’s appetizing. Some anise, a little espresso, a faint bit of citrus. The flavor is coffee and sweet malt on the front, and it closes with some milk chocolate notes and a hint of cherries, kind of a Dr. Pepper thing that I often notice in Baltic porters and bocks. The high ABV is there in the flavor, but it isn’t medicinal or synthetic. In my area this beer is inexpensive, which effects my overall score in a very positive way.
3.5Aromas of burnt coffee, and sharp dark chocolate notes. Flavors of burnt coffee, the dark chocolate and some nuttiness round out the taste. A unusual sweet flavor disappeared as it warmed, overall it was a pretty decent porter, and the price was pretty good. Originally rated on 11/25/08.
3.9Sampled @ omhper, thanks.
Bottle sampled 21:st of march 2015, bottle best before 2005.
Lasting brown head. Clear dark red brown color. Fruity and madrification in the aroma. Big caramell taste. Low sweetness and a complex taste profile. Big body.
4.2Bottle pour into nonic pint glass from Manchester Wine & Liquors. Appearance is clear mahogany with light sparkle, 2-finger width light brown foamy head with decent retention and sudsy lacing. Aroma is dark chocolate, dark toast, hints of coffee and dark fruit. Taste is dark chocolate, dark fruit, mild European hop bitterness. Palate is full bodied with decadent creamy texture, soft carbonation and dark fruit/dark chocolate finish with late warmth in stomach. Overall, a nice beer that is sweet but not cloying and a silky mouthfeel. Nice.
3.4500 ml bottle. Dark mahogany brown color. Moderate khaki colored head. Aroma has notes of cola and coffee. Big sweet roasted malt flavor. Notes of coffee and sweet cocoa. Midtaste brings a nutty cocoa melange reminiscent of Nutella. More like a sweet stout. A great value at $2.99 for a 500 ml bottle.
4.1Poured from bottle. Big aroma of coffee and chocolate malt. Good lookin - nearly stout black with lacing. Tasting huge amounts of mocha and chocolate with a trace of licorice, lactose, banana and a trace of booze and hops. If I didn’t know better I would think this was a sweet stout. Probably too sweet for a porter. But I don’t care - this is a tasty surprise.
3.5Bottle. Hazy rweddish brown with large creamy beige head, mocha and cherry aroma, medium carbonation, sweet mocha taste with hint of forest berries, somewhat thick body, medium bitter coffee beans finish. It tastes a bit like artifiical sweeteners
3.3Less sweet than the other two with more pronounced smoke/ash and nuances of fruit and chocolate. Still not a great example of the style, but better.
3.5Bottle from Kroger. Pours brown with a giant tan head. Smells of coffee. Taste is a lightly smoked coffee, ash, peat. Interesting.
3.5Nieco słodkawy. Bardzo miłe aromaty palonych słodów. Na pewno trochę wyżej, niż koncerniaki. Wciąż jednak nie jest to dystyngowany porter.
3.61/8/16. Bottle at Dashi. Drinking it with sashimi Cobia. Nice combo. Malty but less sweet than domestic Baltics I've had. Strong sharp roasted notes. Surprisingly not boozy for the ABV.
4.5Poured from a 16.9 OZ bottle into a pint glass. the bottle cap is all gloss black. the appearance is like a dark coffee color. The aroma is full of malt with a big dose of black licorice. The taste is like the aroma and the alcohol is very well hidden. Overall, an really outstanding Baltic Porter. This is becoming a very sought after style by me.
4.4I didn't take any extra notes when I tried this beer for the first time but I'm gonna try it again and update my comments.
3.0Bottle. Pours almost black in color with small white head. Aroma of roasted malts, chocolate, licorice, butterscotch (probably famous diacetyl from Witnica ;) ). In taste medium sweet, full bodied with roasty and chocolate ntes finished with a hint of alcohol. Medium bitter finish. Decent porter.
3.5----- I’ve tried it before joining to the RateBeer. -----
3.2A good, malty porter. Pours a deep red-black with a tan head. Smells malty, with some plum, marshmallow. Taste is quite malty, vanilla and plum, raisin. Sweet finish. Had in the bottle.
4.0Bottle share at Evernote in Redwood City, CA. A chewy blend of beefy teriyaki jerky and licorice tape. Must try!
3.0Bottle. Heavy molasses and roasted for the malt, light perfume for the hops, dough for the yeast, with hints of brown sugar and cola. Head is small and quickly diminishes to nothing. Color is clear dark brown. Flavor starts moderately sweet and lightly acidic, then finishes moderately sweet and lightly bitter. Palate is medium, syrupy, with a lively carbonation. An okay Porter, a little out of balance in flavor but it does have a nice smokiness to it.
3.5Dark with a tannish head. Smooth, roasty malt with some coffee and toast. Smooth, full, earthy with a long finish. Not bad at all.
