Black Diamond Jagged Edge IPA

Black Diamond Jagged Edge IPA

Our take on a "west coast style" IPA, Jagged Edge is big and hoppy, yet it’s also extremely well balanced, and surprisingly easy to reach for another.
We "first wort hop" with Columbus, and use Simcoe for flavor additions. The finishing hop additions include Columbus, Centennial, and Simcoe. Columbus is pungent with sweet orange aromas and flavor. Centennial adds floral notes along with additional citrus. Simcoe add a nice pine like flavor and aroma. These hops were chosen for their flavors and their moderate cohumulone content, which means they are bitter but not overwhelmingly bitter in large quantities.
Pale malts are complemented by caramalt and light munich malts, which both enhance the malty sweetness and color and work to balance the substantial hop bill.

3.2 Bottle at home. Clear golden pour, thin white head. Aroma of spicy hops, some citrus, some rye, slightly chemical and a bit messy. Flavor is quite bitter, fruity, slightly sweet and a bit rough. Decent body.
3.9 Mooie heldere oranje kleur met een goede kraag. Ruikt zeer fruitig, orange, hop, bitter. Smaakt fruitig, bitter, hop, orange. Beetje droog. Lekker.
3.5 12 fl.oz bottle. Pours almost clear orange golden colour with a mid-sized good lasting off-white head. Aroma of mild fruity fresh hops, grass. Taste of medium bitter hops, tropical fruits, leading to a bitter finish, alright!
3.5 355ml bottle. Slightly cloudy, amber colour with small, frothy, half-way lasting, minimally lacing, white head. Close resemblance to the "White Witch" but with more pronounced citrusy fruitiness (grapefruit, lemon) in aroma and taste.
3.2 Aroma citrico, leggero pino, mandarino, molto caramello.
3.4 Bottle: Poured hazy copper with a off white head. Edgy juicy hops with a malt character. Nice hoppy forwards that leads into a nice malts.
3.2 Bottle with shig: Poured copper with off white head. Great aroma citrus grassy earthy with Carmel notes. Tastes was really mild hop notes really well balanced.
3.7 Bottle; pours hazy amber with an off white head; aroma is citrus, malt, and hints of pine and caramel; taste is bitter citrus with some caramel and pine hints; crisp bitter finish, solid IPA
3.6 Bottle, 355 ml at O’hara, Zagreb. Pours hazy yellow with white to off-white head. Citrus, fruity, bit piney, caramel. Bitter finish. Medium bodied.
3.4 Bottle @benzai with Dutchdrebus. Orange color with a white head. Smells and tastes hoppy, sweet, malty, fruity.
3.4 Bottle @ benzai. Hazy deep orange colour with a medium sized, slightly creamy white head. Smells sweet, hops, imperial ipa, fruity, slightly resin, slightly pine. Tastes watery, hops, slightly floral, slightly soapy, slightly biscuit. Thin body, nice carbo.
3.6 Bottle @ home. Lightly hazy orange color, full sized off-white head that lasts for a long time. Aroma is malts, hops, quite fruity. Taste malts, some caramel, hops, a bit metallic, a bit dry, medium to firm bitterness. I think if I would try this fresh it would score close to a 4, but it is clearly past its prime. Still decent, but you can taste that the flavor has declined.
3.5 Tasted from a bottle I bought online somewhere. West Coast IPA with splendidly deep orange blonde colour, clear with quiet fizz but a hazy amber with deposit, under an irregular, creamy, thickly and broadly lacing, off-white, quite thick and stable head. ’Dank’ aroma of pine resin, rotting hay, pink grapefruit, fresh hemp, nettles, wormwood, orange peel, pineapple, basil, peaches in syrup, drying tomato, honey, gooseberries, samphire. Taste starts with a pleasant, sweetish-sourish fruitiness of pineapple, sour berries and apple paired with a weedy, hoppy ’celery saltiness’ from the start, as is not unusual for the style, (very) minerally and quite refreshing; a decidedly caramelly and somewhat nutty, lightly toasted maltiness underlies, gentle and mellow, with the spiciness of the hops playing on top of it and gaining strength in the process, unambiguously showing the way to a finish of resinous, spicy, citrussy hop bitterness lasting for a long time, yet remaining gentle enough to leave room for some subtle ’butterscotch’-like malt sweetishness to shine through; the initial saltiness accompanies the whole palate and seems to increase even in the end, adding further ’drought’, making me all the more thirsty yet bothering me a bit in the end, resulting in a kind of clear salty taste not unlike bakingsoda, lingering for a long time. Alcohol remains fairly well hidden. In all: a rather typical example of the style, but perhaps a bit ’too’ typical, delivering what anyone would expect from it, but not really distinguishing itself from its countless congeners. Still, I quite enjoyed it, and it did revive the hophead in me, though this saltiness was just a bit too much - I’d rather have hop bitterness staying with me. Just needs some more ’umph’ and could do with a little more body as well.
3.2 Thank you gentlefolk! Sampled 355 ml. bottle @ Delirium Hoppy Loft. Hazy orange, little white. Muddy watery orange peel nose. Bitter old vitamins, orange peel taste, herbal, moldy plaster & plants, malts. Herbal & malty body. Not very nice in my opinion.
3.2 Bottled 355ml. -at O’Hara Zagreb. Darker golden coloured, medium sized off-white head, hops and fruits in the nose. Moderate malty, citrusy fruity, slight herbal hoppy and touch of alcohol with notes of grapefruit in rather bitter finish and aftertaste. Ok brew.
3.3 Bottled at O’Hara Zagreb with Ribafish, thanks Marin & co! Misty to murky dark golden body with a small smooth white head that went away slowly. Malty aroma, orange, dry, sweet, sugary. Unripe (green) fruit in the taste, with some dry maltiness. Medium bitterness. Unimpressive but nice.
3.5 Pretty good IPA. Standard issue color, aroma, etc. this one is balanced and subdued, very easy drinking. Be a good "starter" IPA for the uninitiated.
4.0 Really enjoyable ipa. Good balance with this one. This ipa has a good sweet aroma and and great forming head. Good looking and good tasting.
2.4 "this traditional ipa has about half of a full hop flavor. unispired and uninspiring, not even that good in the heat of summer, and this may be their best beer that I’ve had."
3.5 Bottle ambrata velata schiuma abbondante note maltate caramello resinoso discrete note agrumate corpo medio buona amaro piuttosto bilanciato
2.9 Decent bee, just doesn’t rise above. Citrus hop aroma. Caramel color with a fizzy head. Medium palate with a hop-forward flavor with a balanced malt but not exceptional. Easy to drink with beef.
3.2 Draft at Paradiso Dupont. Hazy pale yellow color. Aroma of pine > floral > citrus. Taste is bitter pine resin. OK.
3.8 65 cl bottle, 7.3%. Orange color, hazed, with a thick offwhite head. Classic IPA on the nose. Aroma of grapefruit and orange with a powerful amount of hops, resins, brown sugar, apricot, doughy malts. Body is medium, somewhat dusty. Intense bitter finish with a trail of burnt dark chocolate.
3.4 Bom amargor, bem trabalhada. Vale a pena. Bela cor . Creme fraco não durou muito. Gostosa uma ipa basica.
3.7 Draft. Cloudy dark amber. Good sized Frothy tan head which lasted. Thick lace. Bigger medium almost full body. Pretty good balance. Melon. Pineapple. Citrus. Caramel. Pretty big beer. Moderate but firm bitterness. Drinks like a double IPA.
3.6 Pours a fluffy two fingers of head on a cloudy dark straw colored body. The aroma has lots of danky lemon, barnish smell, but nice. The taste has bold lemon bitterness but lots of malt to hold it up. I like it. The texture is thicker with moderate carbonation. Enjoy it.
3.1 bottle at thirsty beer shop in singapore. pretty typical stuff - aroma of pine and caramel; slightly sudsy body with solid citric flavours, predominantly grapefruit, and a toffee malt character with a good hit of bitterness
3.3 "Pours a light amber with an orange tint to it. Slightly cloudy and a fluffy medium sized head which recedes after a couple of minutes. Tons of sticky lacing. The aroma has some faint citrus hops are subtle compared to the strong grainy malt aroma. Getting some yeast scents as well. The taste initially is subtle grapefruit hop flavor is overtaken by biting malt. A bit of earthiness to the lingering hop finish. The mouthfeel is medium with above average carbonation.
