Black Oak Nut Brown Ale

Black Oak Nut Brown Ale

This is a darker offering from Black Oak. Rich smooth taste, slightly roasty and chocolaty. It’s a bit less hopped, but still has a fantastic balance with the malt.

3.7 Clear, brown color and a small, brownish head. Aroma of malts, wood, nuts, bread, flour, and a delicate hint of fruits. Taste is also malty, warming, nutty. Medium body, creamy texture, and soft carbonation. Finish comes with a slight hoppy touch which gives it a bit less sticky character.
3.1 Minimalist white head, brown body with a golden hue to the body when the light hits it. Aroma of nuts and honey. Taste of nuts.
3.3 Tap at the Rex in Toronto. Mahogany brownish with a small off-white head. Both aroma and flavour pleasantly nutty (toasted nuts), sweetish, with quite some leafy, herbal finishing bitterness. Pretty crisp in the mouth, body around medium. Subtle notes of fresh ground coffee. Enjoyable impression.
3.6 0.473 can. Clear, brown color and a small, brownish head. Aroma of malts, wood, nuts, bread, flour, and a delicate hint of fruits. Taste is also malty, warming, nutty, bready. Medium body, creamy texture, and soft carbonation. Finish comes with a slight hoppy touch which gives it a bit less sticky character. Overall quite a nice beer, not the crown jewel but good enough.
3.7 Appearance: clear amber-brown with one finger of rocky light tan head, good retention and lacing. (4/5) Aroma: nutty, mild chocolate and coffee, caramel, grassy, pine. (7/10) Taste: moderate sweet, moderate bitter, light tart. (7/10) Palate: medium body, lively carbonation, off-dry medium duration slightly tart finish. (4/5) Not bad at all for a nut brown. Not a style I tend to prefer, but this one is nicely balanced, with a little bit of grassy and piney hops, and even a little tartness. Slightly more complex than your typical nut brown. (15/20)
3.4 A filtered, cherrywood brown body is capped by a moderate slightly off-white head. Aromas of nuts, lightly roasted malts, mild chocolate. Medium palate. Tastes of light nuttiness, creamy milk chocolate, and a hoppy, ever-so-slightly bitter finish. Don’t see myself ever reaching out to grab one of these again, but as a one-shot experience, it was a fairly enjoyable brew.
3.7 Scent of coffee and chocolate. Opaque mahogany colour. Bitter front with dark chocolate and coffee finish. Medium body and lively carbonation. Quite tasty.
3.8 650 ml bottle from the LCBO. Appearance: Pours an opaque dark brown with a thin white head. Aroma: Brown sugar, caramel, malt, hints of pine resin, walnuts. Flavours: Coco, milk chocolate, toasted malt, brown sugar, bit of a bitter hop like finish. Mouthfeel: Thin with moderate carbonation. Overall: A nice very sweet brown ale. I love sweet beers so I had no problem with this one but it may be a bit a sweet for others. All of the components came together nicely.
3.4 Bottle - Hazelnut and caramel with some toasted notes. Clear dark brown with a light beige head. Toasted malts and hazelnut, finishes with a nice sweetness. Not an exciting style but a good example.
3.2 On tap at The Round, Kensington Market Toronto. Pours reddish brown with thick off-white head. Slightly roasted malty aroma. Nice smooth palate. Taste somewhat sweet with bitter finish. Not bad.
3.6 On cask. Dark mahogney colored pour with small off white head. Aroma of roasted malts, caramel and nuts. Taste of roasted malts, toffee, slight chocolate, slightly nutty and very faint hop finish. Medium bodied, creamy mouthfeel, lower carbonation, nicely balanced, good brown ale!
1.9 Bottle. Fruity vitamins and dish soap aroma with ginger. Clear mahogany under a white sheet and lace. Dish soap flavour and medium bitterness that ends with some astringency. Medium light body, medium carbonation.
3.2 650ml bottle. Clear reddish brown with a foamy off-white head. Flavors are toffee, nuts, chocolate, roasted malts and caramel with grassy and woody notes. Light to medium body, soft carbonation, thin texture.
3.2 650 mL bottle. Pours walnut with a thick lacy head of off white. Mild nut and caramel aromas, a hint of butteriness, cocoa and black tea. Actually quite dry, subtle sweetness and only a hint of hop. Light to medium body with moderate carbonation. A nice session beer.
3.4 Purchased at LCBO. Some good caramel and nutty flavour. The taste isn’t to strong but a very nice session beer. I would buy again.
3.4 Bottled sample at ribeye jacks. Malty. Nutty. Bitter but not hoppy. Good tasting.
3.5 650ml bottle from the LCBO. Pours a clear, dark caramel with a one finger, frothy, off white head that clings to the glass. Aroma has notes of bread and caramel with slight hints of fruits, roasted malts, and nuts. Taste is balanced and smooth with a mild roastyness and a hint of hop bitterness on the finish. Medium body and carbonation. Slightly creamy texture that lends itself well to the roasted flavours. Overall tasty and very drinkable. I could see this being a go to, everyday darker beer. Cheers!
3.8 Pours a very deep amber, almost like maple syrup. A nice bubbly head, and great lacing. Aroma notes include warm notes of vanilla, nuts, caramel, roasted malts, toffee, and a hint of cinnamon. The palate is very smooth and well rounded, with a big upfront blast of smoked malts, and caramels. Very smooth beer, as the palate develops notes of nuts, more smoke, pepper, and a slight bitter finish. This is a very excellent brown ale!!
3.2 Bottle from The Beer Store. Pours a very clear dark brown with a small off white head. Nose is roasted malts and brown sugar with some nuts. Taste is quite sweet with malts and nuts dominant and a hint of molasses and honey. Mouth is medium slick with soft carbonation. Finish is quite dry but not bitter.
3.7 Not quite as good as the robust porter, but good nonetheless. More caramel and nuttiness than I expected.
2.9 clear brown colour with little head and no lace. muted aroma but there is some roast, malt and a hint of nuttyness. light brew having almost no flavour profile other than a hint of bitterness and some roast. wow boring brew.
3.2 341ml bottle pours a deep amber color with a finger and a half of off-white head that leaves some fine lacing on the glass. Aroma is chocolate and light roasted grains with hint of citrus. Taste is a chocolate malty sweetness with some roasted grain bitterness with a touch of citrus. Light to medium bodied with a light carbonation as well. A typical brew for the style with nothing really special.
3.4 pours clear brown with little head. Toasted nut and chocolate aromas with some brown sugar. medium body with very little carbonation. Tastes of nuts and smoky wood as well as sweet molasses notes. Finish is slightly drier than expected from the sweetness.
2.7 I had it once b4 so I chuged this bottle. 2 finger head brown/red color. smell and taste is nut, chocolate and a little sweetness. I taste that also plus a little tiny foamy puke taste because had other beer(s)b4 hand and chuged this so full and whatever cheers
3.7 Pours a smooth dark brown, beautiful chocolate and roasted malt aroma and flavor, very nice mouthfeel, very cohesive flavors. One of the best brown ales i’ve tried.
2.8 Assez ennuyant, mince en bouche, ambré croustillant avec une légère morsure du houblon.
3.7 On tap at Wvrst. Pours a clear mahogany brown with a thick off-white head. Aroma of chocolate, roasted malt. Flavor of chalky cocoa, roasted malt, and roasted nuts. A surprisingly robust (and tasty) nut brown! 7/4/8/4/14 [3.7/5]
3.8 # oncask at Volo English Ales night. Malty sweet, almost no bitter. Light carbonation.
3.9 341ml bottle. Pours a reddish mahogany brown with a good sized, off-white head. Aroma is malty with some sweet nuts like pecan or hazelnut. Roasty nuttiness in the back of the mouth with a brown sugar malt. Touch of earthy hops. Mouthfeel is very smooth, like velvet. Overall, very nice, like lighter, nuttier porter.
2.7 Has a bit of oaky bitterness. Smells a little of roast malt but taste is basically watery. Smell is light, body is light. Probably the weakest beer I’ve had from a usually good brewery. Small bottle.
