Black Oak Pale Ale

Black Oak Pale Ale

This is our flagship beer. Medium body, beautiful golden colour, good mouth feel and a refreshing hop finish. We use six selected malts and five different kinds of premium hops. This recipe is secret, but the Pale Ale is very tasty and hoppy.

3.0 Bottle from the Beer Store. Pours a cloudy pale orange with a big white head. Nose is toasted malts, biscuit some very light citrus notes. Sweet malt start and subdued caramel and citrus. Only minor bitterness. Medium body with average carbonation. Needs a little more character.
3.3 650 mL bottle. Pours an orange tinged gold with a lacy white head. Biscuit, toasty grain, caramel, beeswax, citrus peel and a touch of woodiness. Light to medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Mildly sweet all over, a nice bit of bittering hops and a sticky finish. Good sessionable beer.
2.8 Nice coppery color with good clarity. Odd aroma that I could not figure out. Flavor was muted and overall pretty unremarkable. Probably won’t do this again.
2.9 Pours the colour of treated lumber with a thin picket fence white cap. Pretty unremarkable: muted aroma, subdued malts & hops, & a slightly disconcerting coppery after taste.
3.3 650ml bottle from the lcbo. Pours a clear, copper/gold colour with a one finger, off-white head. Aroma smells faintly of grain, caramel, citrus, and slight floral hops. Taste is slightly on the bitter side. Slight citrus, pine/resin, and caramel with a short, hoppy/bitter finish. Medium body and carbonation. Slightly oily texture but also refreshing. Overall pretty good. Very drinkable with lots of flavour. Would probably buy again when I’m in the mood.
3.2 Picked up at the Ancaster beer store. Pours an almost clear copper, white head that dies to a thick ring, some minor lace. Nose is malt, really smells like wort. Tastes sweet and bitter.
3.0 Actually not too shabby at all, light citrus hop notes, toasted malts and a great balanaced sessionable character. The pour is rather bland and boring looking though with a clear golden body and a thick white head that foams down quick. overall, just an okay brew.
2.8 341ml bottle pours a pale golden color with a finger and a half of white head that retains well and leaves some decent lacing on the glass. Aroma is quite mild considering all the ingredients claimed. Taste is only slightly better than a typical lager. I did not find this brew to be of high quality and did not enjoy the taste. Disappointing.
3.5 From notes. At C’est What. Pours a nice orange colour with a small head. Aroma is piney with notes of grapefuit, and some sweet malts. Flavour is slight sweet malts and a nice lingering hop bitter. Nice sessionable beer.
3.1 A little hops, some character in a lemony sense, or at least some kind of citrus. Decent, even a little more interesting than your average pale ale. Had a sample of this at a stand in the lcbo. Worth finding again.
3.2 Bottle from brewery. Clear and golden with a big head. Slightly yeast aroma with English hops. Slight caramel taste with some English hops and some actual IBUs in there. Decent stuff.
3.1 Really nice basic drinker. Up front lots of grass and straw, backed with some breaded sweetness, and a hint of a hoppy bitter finish with some limited citrus presence. Nothing wrong with this at all, great standby beer.
3.2 Golden pour, 2 fingers of head. Aroma of grapefruit and bready malt - a bit of grass as well. Some citrus up front, a bit of pine, malt, bready, some toffee, fairly bitter. Average mouthfeel, ok carbonation. A fairly good sessioner when it’s fresh.
2.9 In regards to Pale Ale, this one just doesn’t suit my palate. Looks great on the pour from the tap. Nice healthy white head, aroma caries nutty hops and bitter wood. Tastes malty and bitter rather than hoppy and citrus. A middle of the road Pale.
3.2 bottle. Golden colour, medium fluffy head. Aroma of nutty malt, wood, butter. Taste is smooth with moderate amount of bitter. Decent beer, would buy again, but nothing special.
2.9 Malty tasting pale ale with a moderate amount of bitterness. I can not say I really enjoy either the taste of the malt or the taste of the hops used. One of those beers that smells better than it tastes. An OK APA but slightly below average for this style in my opinion.
3.2 Cannette 500 ml. 5%. Couleur jaune foncé, mousse blanche. Arôme de malt caramel et céréales. Gout d’alcool, malt et un peu de caramel. Finale avec des notes d’alcool et un peu de houblon.
2.9 (bottle) clear medium amber colour with small white head; aromas of candy, fruit; flavour is a letdown after the aroma - simple, mineral/ashy; with long medium bitter/mineral finish
3.1 Bottle OCB Sample pack. Pours clear golden amber with thin white head. Floral hop aroma. Light bodied, quite smooth. Restrained bitterness in taste. Not a fan of this beer style, but this more acceptable than most.
3.4 A proper pale ale. Nice bitterness and balanced malt. Refreshing but not overly light. Very solid brew, this would do the trick for me very often.
3.3 Quite nice actually, it is very smooth, light bitterness and overall it has a very flavourful taste. I would purchase this again
3.2 This beer poured a medium brown color, smaller head, aroma is very floral. Beer has a smooth texture to it. This has some hoppiness to it but trails off, needs a little more. Only 5% so I can drink a few and be content, vs some higher ABV hoppy beers I have had.
2.8 500ml draught 5.0% ABV I tried this beer on tap on September 23, 2010 at "The Beerbistro" in Toronto, Ontario, Canada during Toronto’s 1st annual Beer Week. The beer was translucent gold with orange hues and a white foamy head. The aroma was grainy malt, some floral hops, and a hint of yeastiness. The mouthfeel was weak to medium bodied, with medium carbonatoin. The flavour was watered down malt, and detracted from the looks and aroma of this beer. The finish was bitter, but not so much hoppy.
3.4 [bottle] Excellent caramel aroma with some refreshing citrus notes that are from both fermentation and hops. Almost clear bronze under a bubbly patch and ring and a thin cover. Flavour is pleasant citrusy hops in good balance with spicy caramel, but a quick shot of hops bitterness that ends with mineral water. Good start, but lacking finish. Light body, moderate carbonation, moderately bitter finish.
3.0 341 bottle. Pours yellow orange with a decent white head. Nutty, grainy and a touch of grassy and floral hop aromas on the nose. Sweet malt front and lingering dryish moderate bitter finish, medium mouthfeel. Not a bad brew, but as far as American Pale Ales go, not at the top.
3.5 I have had this one for longer than I should have, not sure which Canada trade it came from but I will give a shout out to Viggo since he is a pimp. A: Pours a pale honey like golden color with a nice tall white head. Great retention, and spotty lace from top to bottom of my glass. S: Simple aromas of crackery grainy malt, candy sweetness, and mild grassy hops. T: Simple, on the malty side but I did let it sit around for a bit. The cereal grains are there, with hints of bread and caramel. Very subdued hop profile.... mostly grassy green hops with just a touch of citrus. M: On the lighter side of medium, not bad really.
3.0 341 bottle in 6-pack from LCBO, served cold in a tulip glass. 05MA10. App.: Clear deep golden with a fair off-white white foam. Aroma: Pleasantly fruity malts and hops, some toast and biscuit, slightly earthy, British, hints of caramel and toffee, slightly peppery, definitely vegetal, I don’t love it. Palate: Medium body, sparse yet pointy effervescence with an overall, slightly oily feel. Flav.: Dusty, musty, biscuity, earthy, slight austere, British caramel/toffee, still vegetal, some decent resinous, earthy, slightly floral hops; dry with fair bitterness and a surprisingly pleasant malty finish (lacks the vegetal/earthiness). Could be a style thing. Liked the bitterness, didn’t love the aromas and flavours.
2.7 Échantillon, Mondial de la bière, 3 juin 2009; oeil : ambrée, claire, effervescence moyenne, petit anneau de mousse beige; nez : léger malt, léger grain; bouche : léger malt, léger grain, drèche, mousseuse, finale en drèche avec une surprenante amertume, astringence moyenne, corps moyen, carbonatation moyenne, plutôt amère; en résumé : ordinaire ENGLISH Sample, Mondial de la bière, savoured on June 3 2009; eye: amber, clear, average effervescence, tiny ring of beige head; nose: light malt, light grain; mouth: light malt, light grain, spent grains, foamy, finale in spent grains with a surprising bitterness, mild astringency, medium body, average carbonation, rather bitter; overall: ordinary
3.5 Pours gold with a thin head. Aroma is caramel maltiness with some woody, fruity hop. Flavour is very nice fruity and resinous/piney hop with a medium toasty caramel malt body and a dry bitter finish.
