Black Sheep Monty Python's Holy Grail (Bottle)

Black Sheep Monty Python's Holy Grail (Bottle)

Bottled - pasteurised.

Another fine addition to the Black Sheep Brewery range of premium bottled ales, our Holy Grail Bitter was specially commissioned to commemorate the 30th anniversary of Monty Python.

It has a distinctive taste with plenty of fruity hops, and is full flavoured with a dry and refreshing bitterness.

2.3 (Bottle). Interesting stonefruit aroma. Deep amber/tan colour. Mostly clear, a bit sudsy head. Faint crystal malt flavour, not much bitterness and disappointing watery mouthfeel. I was expecting some more malt in there, quite a dry finish but pretty low alcohol. More of a gimmick beer designed to make the punter try one once, if never again. Doesn't really have a hope of becoming a classic unlike its namesake.
2.9 Toffee with soft malt. Aroma nothing special. No bite on palate. Thin head but very drinkable. Overall average
3.0 330 ml bottle from the Beer Store. Pours a clear golden colour with average-sized white head. Aroma is caramel and leafy, herbal hops. Flavour has toffee with a tea-like herbal character and light toastiness. Average body. Decent.
2.8 A: Clear gold with a medium white head. N: Hints of malts and bitterness. T: Pale malts, medium bitterness. P: Medium-thin O: Nothing special.
2.6 330ml bottle. Pours a dark gold with small amounts of white head. Yeasty nose with with hints of toffee and banana. Medium body with the same toffee and banana flavours and an almost yeasty finish. I don't pick up any hops. Unusual.
4.0 Light and malty - good lunch beer
2.8 Sampled at beer-tasting party. Only had a few ounce sample, but enough to get the idea. Lower carbonation-English feel to it. Pale golden-colored appearance. Saw it before on the shelf but never got around to sampling before this. Figured that it would be more "premium" or craft quality, but pretty much an average ESB at best.
2.9 500ml bottle into shaker. From ALDI, Riverwood. pours a clear bronze colour with a thin white foamy head which leaves some lacing, medium carbonation. Slight aroma of sweet malt. Slightly prickly in the mouth, leafy, grassy hops. Finish is cleansing and mildly bitter, touches of mint and herbal hops. More a golden ale than an ESB. Good for a summer beer garden.
2.7 Amber and clear, this brew comes with a style-typical malty aroma: caramel, biscuit, dates... not bad, but not terrifically deep. Carbonation is spot on, but bitterness a little on the weak side, and the finish is slightly 'salty'. I miss depth and balance. Not awful, but by no means a memorable experience.
2.7 Taste: crisp, slight hop, mild malt flavor. mellow grainy nose. Golden hue, crystal clear, tall white foam head some lace. medium to light body. An ale to go with appetizers. Had several years ago.
2.9 Bottle from Morrisons. Amber in colour, with a small, off-white, head. A malty bitter, with caramel, a touch of fruit and moderately bitter finish. Ok.
3.3 Pint Can - I figure that's the bottled version. $2.50, Parkhurst Wine Shop @ Rainbow Hill. No freshness date that I can decipher, but I've had issues with that at this shop. Pours medium gold with a soft white head. Aroma is tart berry, candied berry, light grasses. Flavor is sweet caramel, raspberry hard candy, grasses, English malts. It's not bad despite the candied flavor. It's not a sugar bomb, at least.
3.2 This is a Pint Can of Amber Gold Ale (tempered over burning witches!). Poured dark and clear, with ample foamy head. I admit, this is better than I expected. Started with great, full flavor that was not bitter. The last of it is much like a brown ale. It is nothing exceptional, but gets a few extra points from an old gumby at heart!
4.0 Had this one while celebrating with friends the end of our 2017-2018 volleyball season. The score is probably reflecting more the good times we had, while I found the beer ok. On my second attempt, it made a very good impression. Gave it a +0.5.
2.9 Bottle at Bishops Arms Linnegatan, Stockholm. Clear light amber with a medium white head. On the sweet side with malt, grass, hops and some caramel. Quite light and with a medium bitter finish.
3.4 Amber colour, medium head with short retention. Good lace. Aroma of cereals, lemon, caramel. Medium body, creamy texture, good carbonation. Dry finish. Taste of lemon, caramel, grains. A good refreshing beer.
3.4 Bottle. Dark honey colour, white head. Lemon, corn, must, wet cardboard. Medium body. Ersatz macro?
3.2 Bottle. Pours clear dark amber with very small frothy whitish head, lightly spicy caramel malt aroma, high carbonation, spicy sweetish caramel taste, thin body, longish caramel finish. Tasty and easy to drink.
2.5 4.7% gold colour with a thin head, citrus hop aroma, bitter citrus hop taste.
2.7 0.5 bottle @ Davies Court Gold with a small head. Aroma of malts, fruits, and DMS, as well as some flowers and perhaps English hops. Taste is sweet, malty, typical English ale. Medium, slick, lively. Finish introduces nothing new. Overall, mediocre.
1.8 Love the film.... not the beer, bit of a nothing to be honest, not a lot of smell or taste Disappointment but not nasty
3.0 Bought from Morrisons. Pours to a golden colour. No head retention. Not a nasty pint!
3.8 From Mar 2006 Poured from bottle(room temp) a medium gold with a huge head of foam that dissipated slowly leaving s solid layer that lasted throughout the session. The smell is of sweet malt and some faint fruitness. The taste up front was a malt sweetness, almost honey like but shortly after, the bitterness from the hops come in and pretty much took over but that's temporary as well as the finish, imo, is a very nice balance between the 2 tastes . Yum...what a nice session brew! Bottom line: Here's another session English Ale that delivers nicely in the taste department. I'll certainly buy this again.
2.8 Bottle. Backlog rating from bottle collection and historic scoring. Source not recorded. No tasting notes kept, just rating. But not at all 'woody'.
2.7 Bottle, 0.50l. Pours cloudy amber color with large frothy off-white head and good lacing with average sparkling appearance. Aroma of berries, grass, cereals, yeast and toffee. Taste starts with mild sweet toffee, following is grassy and mild fruity, while finish is medium bitter. Light to medium body, thin texture and average carbonation in palate. No fun at all...
2.8 Review based on the BJCP2015 guidelines (style 12A). Bottle 50 cl - Batch LB7086 (BBF 27.MAR.18). AROMA: medium-low to low hop aroma with an herbal character (starting to show oxidation), low diacetyl. very faint to none slightly sweet malt background. APPEARANCE: golden color and clear. medium-low ivory head with good retention. TASTE: medium-low hop flavor with a dry grass character (slight oxidation). almost neutral and slightly sweet malt background. medium to medium-high bitterness with a dry and bitter finish. slight diacetyl and cardboard. PALATE: medium-low body with medium-low carbonation. OVERALL: a golden ale with too little malt character on the flavor and starting to show some oxidation.
2.7 Clear copper to light amber color, medium white head. Medium to low carbonation. Medium-light body, thin texture. Aroma is grass, resin and light fruity. Taste is medium to medium-high bitter, some sweet malt and moderate caramel. Moderate-high hops with grass and resin character. Aftertaste is medium-dry and bitter.
3.0 Bottle from Getränkefeinkost, Magdeburg. Clear orange with a white head. Aroma is sweet, malty, caramel and fruity. Flavor is medium sweet and light bitter. Sweet and light bitter finish. 220717
3.0 50 cl At Lidl , Lisbon. The new label is amazing. The main reason I bought this one. The beer is ok
2.0 0,5l bottle. Pours orange with small white head. Malty and a bit mettalic aroma. A bitter taste.
