3.0 Fairly standard stout. Biscuit, malt, light treacle, some bitterness. Perhaps a little oat but not particularly prominent. Reasonable.
2.6 All I taste on this one is ash and cigarettes. Awful. Unless you’re a smoker, avoid. Pouring this one out. :(
4.7 This has certainly become far more available in recent years, even appearing on tesco shelves. When I discovered it it was produced by the bridge of Allen brewery and by far the best ale I had ever drank. So good I visited the microbrewery while in Scotland. It's lost something now, but still one of he finest stouts I have ever had, full and great with every sip.
2.7 500ml bottle at home. Dark brown pour, no head. Coffee, raisin, oat aromas. Taste has more of the same, plus a fruity plum note. Sweet finish. Thin.
3.6 Thanks to Seanyfo. Dark in the glass with beige head. Nice thick aroma with stout-typical slightly sourness. The beer itself starts dark, aromatic. Nicely roasted, very dry. The mainpart is slightly flowery, nice, balanced, not too thick. The aftertaste is long, roasted, dry, slightly sour and highly drinkable! --> very nice stout! Aromatic and also suitable as a session beer! 12/13/12/12
3.2 Smoky, marmite like aroma. Appears black with brown thin head. Big citrussy mouthfeel, logger than expected. Burnt , light flavours toward back of the mouth. Big bubbly mouthfeel but leaves the tongue and palate wanting a little more substance.
3.6 Pours an opaque black with a medium sized creamy tan head and great legs. Aroma is roasted malts, chocolate and a touch of coffee. Great velvety, creamy mouthfeel, flavour is sweet roasted malts, dark chocolate, velvety oats, and a mild roasted malt bitterness.
2.9 A decent enough stout, thin body, slight sourness, even at 4.5% I was expecting more. I’m not sure about the complex roast malts and I wouldn’t describe it as mysterious & compelling, just OK.
3.6 Bottle, shared with Grippitis. Dark brown, beige head. A lovely rounded soft mouthfeel, hard roast and oats, finishes with a mild bitterness. A wonderful silky session stout, terrific use of the oats here. Very well made.
2.3 Bottle from B&M. Nice dark body with short lasting cream head. Pleanty of coffee on the nose. Rather a sour taste. Earthy coffee flavours. Not a great stout.
3.3 a nice smooth and creamy oat stout. Pours a dark deep black with a frothy creamy beige head. Nose of sweet roasted and chocolate malts. Robust flavour with a complex malt and a mild hop finish. Nice smooth and creamy flavour
3.4 500ml brown bottle. Dark brown pour with some dark orange highlights showing through when held up to the light. Head is large and beige with a very creamy bead. Nose has mild roast, toast and chocolate. Taste has bitter chocolate and oats and faint roast. Light and soft finish, dry, not much aftertaste, just a bit of chocolate malt, low bitterness. Medium body and creamy texture in the mouth. Much better than expected, a good oat stout.
3.0 Aroma: Cherry, cacao, dried fruit. Appearance: Black with red hues. Light-brown, very thin, silky head. Taste: Nutty, dry, astringent, Palate: Light body, high carbonation. Very crisp/bite. Slick mouthfeel Overall: Very crisp for a stout! 500 ml bottle, poured. TSA Wild Oat Stout. 13C. Oatmeal Stout
3.2 Scotland: Average stout. Not as smooth as Guinness but with a more roasted flavor depth. Why does every stout get compared to Guinness?
3.2 Pours black colour with a thin head, taste is of coffee, roasts malts, oats and finishes with a dry palate Earlier Rating: 12/31/2011 Total Score: 3.7 Strong taste of roasted malts with a slight hint of chocolate, quite dry on the palate
3.4 Bottled. A pretty pedestrian kind of low booze stout -the only interesting thing of note is the smoky notes located cause of the toasted/ oats ..and roast malt character ..other wise pretty safe stuff.
2.0 Asbak en gas-lucht als niet erg opbeurende aroma elementen. Smaak gaat scherp verder, muf mint, waterige koffie, roggebrood, wat zoet waterig aan het eind. Desondanks toch iets
2.1 Heel donkere kleur, plakkerige kraag. Ruikt naar as, koffie en wat rottigs. Smaakt vaag koffie, mout bitterzure ,waterige afdronk. Niet zo goed.
2.4 500ml bottle. Pours black with a long-lasting creamy head. Aroma of roasted malt, sulphur and nail varnish. Something definitely seems off. Largely void of definable taste but ashy roast and fruit flit around the edges. Watery feel with soft carbonation. Not undrinkable but few redeeming qualities.
2.7 Bottle purchased from Tesco in Watford. Looks very appealing; wonderful pitch black and with an off-white head. Aroma is very sweet and although it nice burnt notes, those are pushed to the back. Taste is similarly saccharine in my opinion. Disappointing, but I just can’t ever get into sweet stouts.
3.4 Bottle from Lidl. Black beer with residual head. Aroma of roasted malts and chocolate. Taste is burnt malts, some bitterness and peat smoke. Not very full bodied for a stout, especially one with oatmeal in it. OK.
3.1 Short review due to not taking notes while drinking this earlier. Good but not great.
3.5 Bottle@Home. Hot chocolate aroma. Black, brown head, good lace. Sweet chocolate, hint of coffee, hint of bitterness. Soft milky mouth feel. Flavourful.
3.5 Pours lighter than just opaque black with dark tan thinning head. Aroma- high alcohol with wood smell. Taste is high carbonation, to raisiny oatmeal flavor into watery with oat lightness into finish. Too light for me with a stout. Finish and slight middle bitterness. Average.
3.8 Black pour. Huge tan head. Plenty of lacing. Big chocolate aroma. Some roast and malt notes hiding underneath. Creamy mouth of malt. Slight chocolate taste. But mostly a creamy malt, more of an oatmeal. Nice smooth finish. Pretty tasty.
2.9 500ml bottle from supermarket. Dark beer with light frothy head. Smokey with hints of peat on the nose. Roasted caramel taste. Bitter aftertaste.
3.2 A strong aroma of toasted malt and the flavour is the same, with a little smokiness. It’s a simple, clean taste and very drinkable.
3.0 500ml bottle courtesy of JohnRMurdoch - clear very dark brown near black, diminishing tan head, chocolate and oatmeal aroma, roasted malt, oatmeal, chocolate, flavour, creamy texture, high carbonation
4.2 slick and smooth indeed. Lovely full mouthfeel and excellent ’drinkability’. loved it. toasty flavours to the fore. deep, deep colour.intense
3.0 It has a lovely smooth and velvety texture. A gentle flavour, slightly toasty and smokey, but a little more doughy, with slight vanilla.
