Blackberry Farm Classic Saison

Blackberry Farm Classic Saison

This is a Belgian-style farmhouse ale. The aroma is dominated by fruity esters reminiscent of citrus fruits along with a moderate earthy and floral hop aroma from the use of Noble-type hops in the brewing process. Has a deep gold, hue that is often hazy, and a voluminous head on pouring as a result of the bottle-conditioning and high natural carbonation. The beer is medium-bodied and has a very refreshing effervescence which, along with a fairly low alcohol content, makes this a beer to be enjoyed on a warm day by itself or with a wide range of foods, whether casual or fine dining. Complex flavors and aromas in this beer are a result of the special yeast used in fermentation combined with the additional complexity added by bottle-conditioning in large bottles for at least six weeks before being released.

3.3 Pours clear bright yellow with a frothy ivory head. Aroma gives tart pomme with a tropical hint and crisp malt. Dry flavor offers tart and sweet pomme and tropical tones plus fresh malt and a floral hint. Texture provides smooth, fairly firm body and peppy fizz. A classic.
3.3 Pours hazy golden amber with a full, white head. Aroma is dried fruit, light caramel and Belgian yeast. Taste is plum and light caramel, moving to Belgian yeast and light hops. Finish is plum and Belgian yeast. Good saison.
4.0 Great saison. Dry with musty fruitiness and a lingering spicy finish. A little grass, a little lemon, quite nice. Tried at White Elm in 2019.
3.6 10-21-19
3.7 Ar: Pear, black pepper, and star anise; some pineapple and juicy fruit. Ap: Golden and slightly hazy; medium white head with low retention, settles into a ring of fine bubbles and a hazy central nebula of foam. T: Big pear up front; banana and black pepper; herbal hoppiness, with a medium bitterness; chalk and lemon; sweetness is almost nonexistent; finish is more banana, pear, and black pepper. M: Medium-light body with very high carbonation; finish is dry and lean. O: A saison with an authentic European flavor; lots of fruit and spice, with a dry, lively mouthfeel.
4.2 This is a lovely beer. Sharp carbonated mouthfeel. Pours a generous head with a cloudy-golden color. Bubble gum nose and a sweet, yeasty hay-like taste . Well paired with tonkotsu or miso ramen.
4.1 Can pour into shaker pint glass from Total Wine & More, Brentwood, MO. Appearance is cloudy dark yellow with tons of sparkle, finger-width off-white head with fair retention and no lacing. Aroma is yeast, fruity esters, wheat and tart fruit. Taste is strong wheat, clove, coriander, fruity esters, yeast, milder tart fruit. Mouthfeel is light-to-medium bodied with frothy texture, average-to-lively carbonation and finish as taste. Overall, excellent representative of farmhouse/saison style with strong aroma and flavor. Quite good. My first Tennessee beer and they're off to a good start.
3.8 Tap at the Shambles. Golden pour, limited head. Beautiful saison in the straight-ahead Dupont vein. Lovely esters, quaffable, sippable, everything. Lovely beer for my second Tennessee tick. Selection bias obviously, but TN is rising high in my state-by-state rankings.
3.1 Sampled from a can this beer poured a cloudy golden color with a large foamy yellow-white head that left very good lacing. The aroma was musty with perfume, citrus and bubblegum. The flavor was very musty with perfume, bubblegum and light citrus. Medium length finish. Medium body.
3.5 Can. Pours a slightly hazy orange with a thick white head. Aroma of anise, peppery spices, clove, Belgian yeast, bready malt, light fruits. Flavor of lots of spices up front - clove, anise, pepper, bubblegum, bready malt, Belgian yeast. Perhaps a bit overspiced but ok. 7/4/7/4/13 (3.5/5)
3.3 12oz can. Pours a cloudy gold with a moderate frothy off-white head. Aroma is floral hops, earth, citrus, and some bread. Taste is floral, citrus, apple, pepper, light cracker, a little spice, yeast, and some banana. Dry-ish. Light-medium body. Medium carbonation.
4.5 A real old school Saison, Blackberry Farm remembers that balance is key. Their "classic" pours deep clear golden and floats a thick 2 finger even and resilient head that leaves plenty of lace. Yeast, stone fruit, berries, grass, and some barnyard have both aroma and flavor. A solid malt sweetness forms the base on which the other flavors weave and dance, one taking control for a short spurt before relinquishing control to another element. Black pepper rises in the finish. Complex and delicious and created in the old world tradition, but perhaps with more consistency. Nice job.
3.7 1Mar2019 Intense barnyard, bread, sweet grain and cereal malts. Clear gold, small, creamy, white head. Light sour. More bitter barnyard, bitter grain and cereal malts, barnyard dominating, soft carbonation, medium bodied. Decent. Keg at Cloudwater Friend Family Beer, Session 1, Manchester.
4.1 Bottle from Beer Gonzo, Earlsdon, Coventry. Consumed at home Friday 8th February 2019 down the office on an evening when we should have been in London. Pours yellow orange, hazy, white head atop. A lovely Saison and as described it is classic in style. Nice carbonation, nice sweetness, yeasty, fruity, dry, good aroma, a lovely light rustic farmhouse touch. Excellent.
4.2 Saison
3.4 Tap at Kultainen Apina. Pours clear golden yellow, white head. Wheat, yeast, earth, pepper, banana. Medium body, soft carbonation, sweetish finish.
3.4 This poured a golden color with a white head. The aroma contains some lemons, hay, and a hint of spices. More like a pilsner than a saison. The flavor however is all saison with quite a bit of spices and fruity notes. Some lemons and grassy notes present. The mouthfeel is rather dry. Overall not bad at all.
4.0 Nice saison aroma and breads aroma. Sweet with lots of carbonation. Nice flavor.
3.8 Keg at BeaverFest 2018 Friday... Golden amber.. Thin white lacing.. Soft funk.. Soft berries fruit nose.. Juicy earth beer.. Big yeasty fruit.. Big bread fruit
3.9 Tap. Unclear golden color with white head. Aroma is herbal, peppery yeast, wheat, nice earthiness. Taste is herbal, dough, peppery yeast, very nice complexity, dry finish. Oily mouthfeel with natural carbonation. Good!
3.0 Gulbrun klar med høyt hvitt skum. Lukter høy og blomster. Lett. Smaker høy, blomster og lett bitter sitrus. Floralsk avslutning. Ikke min ølstil. (The Beavertown Extravaganza 2018)

2.8 Tap at BeavEx2018, London. Colour is clear golden with small white head. Aromas and flavors: Fruits, dryness, some minerals, some Belgian yeast and malts. Lots of minerals.
3.5 Draught @ Beavertown Extravaganza 2018. Smooth, ripe fruity and spicy with some yeast and earthy notes. Okay yeasty and spicy saison.
4.1 Bottle - pours a lively hazy orange - nose of peach, citrus, straw, light muskiness, pear - full in the mouth - prickly carbonation complimented well by a mild acidity - medium dry up front, with pepper and mild wildness, followed by a moderately sweet middle of peach and pear, settling into a moderately spicy and mildly bitter finish - nicely done.
4.2 From: gifted bottle from blackberry farm @ Belgium beer fest with Cla! Aroma: fruit, apricot and banana, smooth yeast Appearance: golden yellow bit of haze with a nice white bubbly head Taste: apricot, hint of banana, yeast and hay, very well balanced. Medium and smooth across with just hints of brightness Palate: delightful. Light to medium, perfect carb and fizz, smooth Overall: a delicious take on a classic saison. Guess that's why it was named that way?
3.0 Keg at BrewDog Newcastle, Newcastle Upon Tyne. Hazy golden. Nice classic Saison beer.
3.6 22/7/2018. Keg at BrewDog, Newcastle. Pours clear golden to amber with a small off-white head. Aroma of yeast, malt, herbs, flowers and light peppery notes. Medium sweetness, light bitterness, hint of tart. Medium body, slight watery texture, soft carbonation.
3.3 Keg, Brewdog Shepherd's Bush. Gold, thin head. Soft herbal and mineral aroma, grassy. Taste is also soft, rather flat, some subtle herbal notes. I suspect this has lost its edge in transit. It's nice but no real distinguishing features.
3.6 From tap at the Avenue Pub, New Orleans. Aroma is peppery and yeasty with malt, herbal notes, citrus, flowers, hint of bubblegum, spices, lots of pepper. Sweetish flavour but has a dry finish. Body is medium. Nice classic herbal Saison indeed, comes with a hint of barnyard.
