Blackstone St. Charles Porter

Blackstone St. Charles Porter

The quintessential British style brown porter. During the 1800’s this full bodied style of ale made up 80% of the beer sold in England. Or most decorated beer and now the most decorated brown Porter in the history of the GABF.

3.3 Fat @ Brewpub. Mörkbrun öl med röda inslag. Smutsvitt medelstort skum. Dofter av choklad, kaffe och trä. Smakinslag av choklad, röda bär, kaffe och rostad malt. Torr munkänsla, aningen vattnig.
3.6 On tap at the brewpub. Dark brown with medium beige head. Aroma is dark grain, medium body, medium carbonation, and good small-bubble lacing. Taste is dark malt, caramel malt, some herbal hops, and chocolate. Good porter.
3.4 Decent porter. Dark brown pour. Ash and chocolate nose. Body is a bit more nutty tasty. Light for a porter. Good.
2.9 12 ounce bottle thanks to John. Thin boy and a bit of chocolate. Too thin for my taste.
3.4 Bottle from Erica and Chris. Dark brown body that some light comes thru with a frothy beige head. Pleasant aroma of roasted malts, caramel and floral hops. The flavor is lightly to moderately sweet and lightly to moderately bitter. It finishes lightly sweet and moderately bitter. Medium body with good carbonation. A pleasant roasted coffee bitterness in the aftertaste along with some lingering caramel notes.
3.2 Keg at the brewpub, Nasheville, 15/02/15. Clear amber with a decent light beige covering that retains well. Nose is toffee, light roast, cocoa dusting, spice. Taste comprises light cofffe, nutty, roast malt, biscuit, cocoa rub. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close. Ok porter.
3.6 3/25/2015. From bottle. Dark brown with a tan head. Roasted malt, chocolate. Similar flavors with some earthy notes. Light bitter finish. Not bad at all!
3.5 Bottle at Bob’s Steakhouse in Nashville. Served very cold. Dark brown with virtually no head. Aroma is nutty, ash and coffee with bitter chocolate notes. Very sweet taste, very little hop character. Slick mouthfeel. Decent porter.
3.7 June 2014, Flying Saucer Nashville. Dark brown pour, almost black, under a tan head. Okay aroma, caramel, chocolate, coffee. Better flavor, coffee, chocolate, nutty, biscuity, doughy malts. Tasty.
3.3 Draft at brewery. The pour is a nice darker brown. The aroma is very interesting. Sweet and malty nose blend well. The taste is more nut brown than porter to me. Smooth and nutty.
4.0 This's an actually very nice porter. Sweet light vanilla and creamy. Aroma is a nutty. Correct bitter balance. Nice lasting head. Very impressed.
3.9 Draft at Ale House. Very dark brown color. Aroma of very chocolatey espresso. Taste is toasted brownies dipped in coffee. Very tasty.
3.8 Dark brown pour, nice tan head. A bit sweet up front, medium roast, some coffee and prunes. A nice porter.
4.0 Pours a dark brown with tan head. Lots of roasted malt on the nose, some coffee and cocoa as well; follows onto the palate. Finishes with a little hop note, very well done.
2.6 On Tap at Blackstone Restaurant and Brewery in Nashville TN. St Charles is a rich red brown brew with a nice head of small bubbles. Nose is sweet and hearty with roasted malt goodness. Taste is a bit of medium malt with good hop presence throughout. Body is a bit on the thin side, thinner than typical for the style. A good porter none the less.
2.9 It poured a dark brown color with a small beige head. The aroma was of caramel and roasted malts. The taste was of roasted malts and coffee. It had a medium body with soft carbonation and a creamy mouthfeel.
4.0 Brilliantly clear dark reddish brown appearance. Bready, buttery, caramel aromas. Earthy hop aromas. Flavor full bodied molasses and caramel maltiness with bitter bite and lingering sweetness.
3.3 Bottle thanks to Springlicker. Pours brown with off white head. Nose and taste of toasted nuts, lightly roasted black malt, cocoa and grassy earth. Lighter medium body.
3.5 Draft->shaker. Deep brown woth medium tan head. Roasted malt, chocolate, coffee, hint of earthy hops. Good.
3.3 12oz bottle. Pours a dark brown with an amber hue. Large tan head and good amount of lacing. Aroma of roasted malts, chocolate, hints of dark fruit and coffee. Taste is heavy on the roasted malts up front with coffee, dark chocolate, plum, and an underlying earthy hop bitterness. Tasty sweetness and bitter mix in the finish of toast, dark chocolate, and hop resin. Medium bodied, oily but slightly thin texture, average carbonation. Interesting beer. Taste and mouthfeel are kind of a mix of a porter and a brown ale.
3.4 Draught at the Blackstone Restaurant, Nashville, TN. Dark reddish brown colour with a small off-white head. Roasted malt, mild coffee and some sweetness in the aroma. Roasted malt, dryness, mild coffee and some bitterness in the flavour. Quite easy for a Porter.
3.5 Great dark color. Chocolate notes. Very smooth and drinkable for a porter style.
5.0 This beer is phenomenal! An absolutely perfect representation of a Brown Porter and the GABF medals prove it. Well balanced malty deliciousness. My favorite Porter by far.
3.6 Shared from a 12oz brown bottle into a nonic glass, thanks gregwilsonstl. It poured a clear dark brown colour, reddish at the edges, with long-lasting beige foam and lots of lace. Aromas of toast, roasted barley, plums, raspberries, coffee. Flavour was tart, toasty again, caramelly, fruity, bright coffee-like acidity again. Nice bready malt flavours with true-to-style English hop balance. Light body and carbonation, a bit thin but not to the point of watery, with a nice chalky/mineral water mouthfeel. A basic but well-crafted Porter. Good stuff.
2.8 Dark brown. Mellow hints of chocolate. Thick head. Lacing. Lasting vanilla....but not up front. Tasty but nothing special.
3.5 Slight roasty notes and very drinkable. I’d like to try this one on cask with less carbonation .Goes well with their food!
3.6 Hazy dark cherry amber with a long lasting head/head cover, wisps of lace. Taste is a chewy caramel malt with a hint of toast. Taste grows through the palate, becoming slightly chalky on the roof of the mouth before adding a light hop bittering to finish. Overall, a solid traditional porter. Recommended.
3.9 Solid porter. Dark brown with slight beige head. Sweet carmel on the nose. More caramel on the pallet with pleasant aftertaste.
4.1 Dark brown with red tint and light tan head. Aroma is smoky roast coffee. Taste is roast malt, a little sweet and hoppier than most. Enjoyable.
