Blaugies La Moneuse

Blaugies La Moneuse

La Moneuse is named for A. J. Moneuse (b. 1768), a famous local bandit and gang leader, and ancestor of the brewers’ family. It is a classic "saison" beer by virtue of its strength and its earthy, aged quality. It has a hardy, semi-dry malt character, a fresh but not overpowering hoppiness, abundant yeasty, fruity flavors and a fairly strong, but pleasant and enticing mustiness.

3.7 Bottle from LCBO, corked and caged 375 ml. I really questioned why I bought for $7.00 but La Moneuse is sort of interesting, - sweetish although nice sweet-tart-dry balance with some caramel, acetic, and earth and lemon. Phenolic spice and pear. Verdict undecided,.. the mystery may yet visit me.
3.9 Blaugies La Moneuse Saison 8% Incredibly dense rocky head of foam with a zesty aroma. The body on this was incredibly soft with a round carbonation. The taste was subtle but satisfying with malt sweetness and floral hops joining the mild saison spice. So easy to drink.
3.9 Klassisk saison. Mycket god. Ljus, lätt, stark och god. Typisk belgare
3.5 BBD end of 2020, consumed at the start of 2021, opened with a pop, but the beer was not spilling all over the place. Smell- weak to medium, malt, herbal, Belgian tones, caramel. Foam- Thin, herbal, caramel, weak hops, grass, faint sweetness. Head is small, even tiny white color. Fizzy. Appearance- simple forced bottle, the label is simple. Cloudy orange color, there is some sediment however, might be due to age. From- snifter Taste - malt, caramel, Belgian tones, weak sweetness, faint alcohol?. Wak bitter notes with maybe really really faint sour after tones. Feels herbal. Nice neutral Saison.
3.9 Flaska från Belgoklubben. Disigt orangegul med vitt skum. Fruktig och stallig i doft och smak. Bra balanserad.
3.9 0.375 Bottle from BIAB. Golden beer with a fine head. Very mild nose, fresh apple, smells dry. Flavor is fantastic: complex but somehow dry caramel, no burning rubber aftertaste like by many wild sours, a bit of bready biscuit rounding it out. Very fine/high carb. Mild bitterness that doesn't disturb the other goodness going on here. Very unique & tasty for the style!
3.8 Bottle. Orange pour, off-white head. Malty and slightly sweet saison, very tasty. Hay, light barnyard. Good stuff.
3.3 Strong apple, candy sugar, alcohol.
3.5 bottiglia 375 ml, schiuma bianco sporco fine evanescente, colore giallo/oro velato, al naso legno frutta matura succo di mele, in bocca è speziata marmellata di pesche, corpo rotondo, alcool perfettamente bilanciato, carbonazione leggera, oily, molto dolce con amaro moderato, poco secca e asciutta. Una Saison particolare. Lontano dal mio prototipo di Saison. c. Cantina della Birra 22.08.20
3.5 75cl bottle, expired few months ago. Hazy orange color, with nice white head. Aroma is malty, candi sugar. Taste is spicy, yeasty, malt. Some tartness, licorice note too. Medium/strong carbonation. Nice beer.
3.8 25 cl tap. Cloudy orange, foamy creamy head. Very yeasty, a lot of hay and wheat, some basement notes, orange zest, tangerine, a bit of lemon. Mild dryness. Full bodied, oily texture, soft carbonated, dry finish. Very nice!
3.3 Bottle from Belgiuminabox. Pours a murky orange/brown colour with a very thin soapy looking off-white head. Lots of sediment in the glass. Aroma is woody with notes of alcohol, some orange, apricot, floral and spicy notes. Taste has more notes of orange, apricot, tangerine with light herbal and spice. Light to medium bodied, low carbonation and fairly smooth mouthfeel. it certainly is a different type of beer to what I’m used to. it’s not bad but i won’t be in a hurry to try again any time soon.
3.5 Bottle at a tasting. Med-thin body, med-high carbonation. Med-light honeyish syrupy sweetness, light sourness, but mostly clean, sweetish. Light fruitiness, red fruits, a hint of tartness in the background. Easy drinking, good, could use a bit more complexity though IMO.
3.8 Shared bottle, from Adam, many thanks. Orange color with white head. Aroma of oranges, zest, pines. Honey, yeast, spices, earthy notes. Good.
3.7 C: toffee brown N: candied sugar, yeast P: malt, candied sugar, yeast, caramel.
4.4 This is to date my favourite saison. So full of flavour. Well fruity and yeasty. One for the re buy list.
3.4 Copenhagen 13/6 2020. 75 cl corked bottle from Kvickly, Allerød. Yellow-toned label to makeup look rustic and ancient with a drawing of a an old farm with a horse cart with beer barrels in front. Pours unclear, golden yellow with a medium-sized white head. Settles as thin but consistent layer of foam covering the surface of the beer. Clinging to the sides of the glass. Moderate lacing. Aroma is fairly intense with a malty sweetness and a sronger yeasty basement odor. Light citric notes. Toffee, honey, humid basement. Citrus. Floral. Light carbonation. Slightly thick, oily, almost flat texture. Flavor is medium intense with a medium strong sweetness followed by a moderately strong, citric sourness. Aftertaste is bitter with light sweet undercurrent. Finish is dry with a light boozy burn. Solid Saison from the sweet side of town. Only subdued sourness but it carries a punch.
3.8 Amber with notes of toasted malts, barnyard, green banana, some toffee and herbal notes. Tangy getting into a semi-smooth texture. Light sweet and balanced bitterness. Well done Saison.
3.7 Bottle. Color: Slightly hazy amber, frothy white head. Aroma: Malty, spicy, Saison yeast. Taste: Malt, grain, hay, spicy, yeasty, hints of banana, caramel and white sugar. Over moderate sweet, moderate bitter, light sourish notes. Medium body, just below average carbonation. Nice one.
4.4 Spezie, arancia, frutta candita, frutta secca. In bocca pianificato, spezie, miele onarancio
3.6 75 cl fles. Wazig licht amberkleurig bier met veel rotsachtig wit schuim. Geur: licht zoet, licht zuurtje, fruitig, citrus, perzik, wat kruidige gist, wat stoffig, hooi. Smaak: licht moutzoet, lichte hopbitterheid, wat kandij, fruitige zuurtjes, vleugje kruidige gist. Goede koolzuurprikkel. Afdronk: iets alcohol verwarmend, droog, wat kruidig. Ja, zowat alle aspecten voor saison zijn aanwezig.
3.7 On tap. Pours a clear dark orange with a thin white head. Aroma of light fruits, raisin, bready malt, light spices, peppercorns. Flavor of bready malt, Belgian yeast, light fruits, raisin. Malty, spicy, fruity. 7/4/8/4/14 (3.7/5)
3.9 Clear golden color with off-white head. Aroma has yeast, hay and earthy notes. Taste is fruity with long a bit sour aftertaste. Flavors of citrus, hay, spices and fruits.
3.8 A nice find while passing by and exploring, and not sure if I’m going to tumble on something of worth. A nice wholesome saison, a bit on the dry side. Quite enjoyable.
3.6 75cl bottle, given as a gift from a customer for recommending Corsadyl for his toothache, saving his holiday. Drunk on my birthday. Pours hazy amber, large off-white head. Aroma is gently sweet, floral, funk, yeast. Taste is richer with a deeper caramel profile than I prefer my saison to have, some doughy yeast, grain, dried fruit hints.. extremely high carbonation that encourages slow sipping. Decent.
3.7 750ml bottle. Almost clear amber, effervescent bubbles and a thick foamy off-white head. Flavors are dough, cereals, apricot, apple and honey with spicy and floral notes. Medium body, lively carbonation, smooth texture.
3.6 Bottle. Amber, slightly unclear with a large white head that collapses to a cm. Aroma is mildly funky, floral and lemony - old and zest - a little toast. Lightish bodied, fizzy. Some toast, plum skins, sugary fruit chews but not all that sweet. Dry and bitter finish with citrus and some minor spice notes. Intriguing.
3.7 Bottle at home. Hazy golden body with a large white head. Yeast, malt, spices, fruity.
