Blaugies Saison D'Epeautre

Blaugies Saison D'Epeautre

Saison D’Epeautre is a saison beer made in a unique traditional style, using spelt and barley malt in the mash. Very dry and light in body, with a hint of wheaty tartness and a hardy texture that expresses the character of spelt, a primitive strain of wheat.

It is one truly feisty brew, with an outrageous pop and a natural long-lasting head. And ah, the aroma! It’s a wonderfully heady, musty, cellar character that is unmistakably Belgian and a lot like champagne. The taste delivers on the promise of the nose. Very enjoyable, and perfect for summer, but wonderful at any time of year.

D’Epeautre is hand-brewed in small batches by the impassioned, gifted Blaugies brewers, a husband, wife, and son team. They’re very adventurous in recreating traditional beer styles – and are some of the nicest people you will ever meet. The family enjoys good food and beer, and consumes a lot of its own product for cooking and drinking. We like the rougher, grainier malt texture of all their beers. They give you the feeling that the brewers put this beer in a bottle just a few days ago, especially for you.

3.9 Pours a clear, golden coloration with a medium, frothy head and slightly visible carbonation. Smells of slightly bready, grainy malt and estery fruit and spice notes of green apple, pear gooseberry and clove. Taste is a great balance of slighty bready, quite grainy malt, floral hops and expressive fruity and spicy yeast esters of tart green apple, pear, gooseberry, clove and white pepper, as well as some grassy hay. Finishes semi-dry, with a light sweetness and tartness, as well as some green apple, gooseberry and clove lingering in the aftertaste. Effervescent, velvety mouthfeel with a medium body and medium/strong carbonation. A very nice Saison with a great balance of grainy malt, floral hops and estery fruit and spice notes, with a rather dry character, mild tartness and lightly sweet and bitter accents, as well as a great, velvety mouthfeel. Your typical, old-school Belgian Saison, but with quite expressive esters and a truly lovely balance, making this a joy to drink.
3.8 Bottle from Belgiuminabox. Pours a murky amber colour with a huge fast dissipating foamy white head. Aromas of apricots, lemon, lemonrass, coriander, gooseberry, apples, pears, spice, floral and light herbs. Taste is pretty similar to the aroma, fruity, spicy and also some tartness. Light bodied with average carbonation and a dry finish. Has a slight champagne like feel on the palate. Very refreshing and an excellent beer to enjoy on a hot day.
3.3 0.75L bottle.flowery.low carbonation.dryish,but not too much.an okay saison.
3.9 Fresh, malty, smooth. Quite basic saison
3.7 Bottle corked and caged 37.5cl. @home poured into a shaker. A lot of carbonation. Hazy pale golden, huge moussy white head, receding slowly, good lacing. Aroma wheat malt, yeast, apricot, light lemon, goose berries, green apple, grass. Taste light sweet, mild sourish and slightly bitter, yeast, lemon, goose berries, bit tart, herbal and mineral notes. Medium body, watery texture, average carbonation, dry sweetbitter and sourish aftertaste, interesting brew, has an ancient feel, very nice.
3.4 26.06.2020: 375 ml bottle, 6.6% ABV, at Brasserie Au Trappiste, Bern. Pours a nearly clear dark golden with a white head. The aroma is yeasty and medium malty - bread, hints of wheat, light fruity notes, pear, come cloves, dough, biscuit, cereals, hay, light herbal notes. Medium body with an average carbonation, a light sweetness and a very light bitterness. Flavor of distinct but not unpleasant yeasty notes in front of a lightly sweetish base of pale malt, some pear, some apple, some spicy cloves, sweet wheat, some biscuit and again a light herbal touch. Finishes relatively dry with a light hoppy bitterness and some residual spicy yeast. Overall well balanced and harmonious with surprisingly intense yeast notes reminiscent of a classical Weizenbier. 3.6 Copenhagen 31/5 2020. 75 cl corked bottle from Kvickly in Allerød. Drawing of a windmill churning corn and the the miller standing with what I suppose is a big bag of spelt. Pours unclear yellow with a big, bubbly white head. Settles as thin layer of foam just covering the surface of the beer. Moderate lacing. Aroma is intense with a medium strong fruity sourness and a strong odor of yeast. Lemongrass and citrus. Underlying odor of sweet peach. Wet soil and pepper. Light carbonation. Thin, oily, lightly tingling texture. Flavor is medium intense with medium strong sweetness followed and balanced by a medium strong, tart bitterness. Aftertaste is tart. Finish is dry. Nice dry, tart Saison.
3.7 Gold pour, huge foamy white head. Lemon, grain, spelt, peppery spice. Graininess especially in flavor.

3.9 Really nice saison. Crisp and fruity. Dry and refreshing. A very nice beer for a hot day.
4.0 750ml bottle from an unknown location (online somewhere). It pours hazy bright golden with a thick, fluffy white head. The aroma is fresh and fluffy, lovely cereal vibes, toasty, farmhouse loaf, sweet dough, hint of white wine, hay, straw and just a touch of spice. The taste is crisp and snappy, firm dryness, toasty grains, cereal, hay, doughy white bread, grass, straw, touch of white grape, gooseberry, touch of funk, twist of white pepper and some floral accents with a dry and quenching finish. Medium body and high, fluffy carbonation. Very moreish. Elegant and eminently drinkable stuff.
3.9 Bottle. Has a hazy orange colour with big off-white head. Aroma of Phenols, hay, cloves, grass, lime and some chlorine. Flavour of wet hay, grass, phenols, cardamom and citrus. Has a slick mouth feel, medium body and a light bitterness. Nice and solid saison.
3.8 Thanks Fil! So, apparently I'd never had/rated this classic before. Can't say I expected that, but there you go. Lovely golden body, white head. Classic, well defined estery-spicy aroma, fresh, quince, lemon-lime, spicy touches, the yeast doing an excellent job! Well balanced taste, slightly soapy, but still generally taste sweetish lemony-spicy taste, esters, lean body, highly drinkable, without flaws. Guess it can be hit and miss reading some of the reviews, but this time it was doubtlessly a hit!
3.3 75 cl fles. Wazig goudblond bier met rotsachtig wit schuim. Geur: mout, licht hoppig, grassig, fruitig, citrus, wat appel, kruidige gist. Smaak: lichte hopbitterheid, kruidig, wat citrus. Medium koolzuurprikkel. Lichte body. Afdronk: droog.
3.8 Clear golden color with off-white head. Aroma has fruits, hay, spices and citrus. Taste is fruity with long quite dry and a bit sour aftertaste. Flavors of citrus, sweet fruits, yeast and earthy notes. Refreshing and nice mouthfeel.
3.1 Glass drinked @BrusselsBeerFest. Blond beer with sweet aroma. Small bubblegum aftertaste.
3.9 75cl bottle from Bierhalle de Koninck. Pours misty golden yellow, good rocky white topping. Pleasant moderately sweet saison yeast on the nose, distant spice. Taste is clean, balanced with soft mouthfeel, gentle saison yeast, soft grain, light spice.. excellent balance and drinkability.
3.5 750 ml corked & caged green bottle, from Vinmonopolet, Nettbutikken. ABV is 6%. Pale golden colour, large to moderate white head. Distinct sweetish aroma of spicy saison yeast, wheat (or more specifically spelt) malt and grassy hops. Also hints of old jam. Fizzy mouthfeel. The flavour is medium sweet (not "very dry" at all) with the same elements as the aroma. Not bad, but a bit too much on the sweet side.
3.9 Brasserie de Blaugies Saison d’Epeautre 6% Honey orange gold with a thick pillowy light beige head. The aroma is lightly spicy and fruity with honey notes. It’s got a fantastically soft round carbonation and very drinkable honey grains with white pepper flavor. Delicious.
3.1 Fles 37,5cl thuis. Wat weeïg, flink koolzuur, wat metaalachtige smaak, duidelijke tarwesmaak, bloemig, witbier tonen. Aparte saison. (1-3-2019).
3.3 Rami Rami is drinking a La Saison d'Epeautre by Brasserie de Blaugies at Powiśle Intensywny, przyprawowy, troche jasnych owocow, duzo co2, spoko, 3.3?
4.0 LCI. Uit de fles geschonken. Heerlijke frisse saison: moutig, fruitig, flink wat koolzuur wst de smaak ten goede komt. Prima!
3.9 Deep orange body with a super-rocky, tall and persistent white head. Aroma of black pepper, cloves, some vinegar. Taste is cereals, black pepper, zest. Medium spicy finish. Medium body, average carbobation, oily texture
3.9 750ml bottle thanks to Dave pours out golden topped with a white head. Nose is nice big clove spice citrus and grass floral hops. Taste is more of the nice floral perfume hops and a nice spice balance.
3.2 (dans des circonstances pas évidentes pour noter, néanmoins je sens que je ne pourrais aller guère plus loin)
