Blue Moon Grand Cru

Blue Moon Grand Cru

In Belgium, a Grand Cru is traditionally brewed for special celebrations. This holiday season, there’s definitely something to celebrate: a blue moon on New Year’s Eve. To honor this rare event, we’ve brewed a limited-edition Blue Moon Grand Cru in the US. This small-batch, Artfully Crafted brew incorporates subtle hints of orange peel and coriander and delivers a warm, spicy finish. Garnish with an orange slice and celebrate.

2.7 very thin head nice orange color. nice low carbanation i got a little banana some coriander..light after taste.
2.9 Poured from bottle, hazy orange with minor head, aroma is quite pleasant and floral, the taste is a let down, too sweet, minor alcohol taste on the back end.
2.8 Pours a hazy golden orange from the bottle, with quickly dissipating head and little to no lacing. Aroma heavy on the orange, and a fake orange smell at that. Taste slightly of belgian yeast, but mostly orange. Hides the alcohol well, but that’s the best part.
3.3 Hazy orange-amber colored pour. Small amount of white bubbles along the sides. No lacing. Smells of oranges, lemons, malt and yeast. Fruity sweetness with a hint of spice and orange. Good mouthfeel and body. Deceptively light considering the ABV. Not shabby.
3.0 2011 vintage. Dirty blonde to orange-copper pour into thin head that quickly dissipates as carbonated bubbles rise from the bottom of the glass into a ring of foam and pools of swirling bubbles. Aroma of malty biscuit and yeasty straw with hints of coriander and citrus. Initial flavor of lightly toasted wheatbread and orange zest that fades into an oily, spicy, peppery finish
2.3 Good to start but the finish is like vinegar. Overall just a slightly more potent version of the original.
3.3 Pours a hazy gold with thin white head. Aroma is sweet and fruity, flavor is too but with a surprising lack of complexity. Like a cheap champagne.
3.7 Has a cloudy golden color. Smell is alive with citrus and spice. Taste is a bit boozy, citrus, a touch of spice and a tad tart. Overall a good quality beer.
1.6 nothing i can say positive about this.nothing in this bottle is appealing.bad aroma, flavour, palate is very flat.just an all out failure on their part.wont even give it a second thought next year
4.0 Big fan of this. Would go well with some seafood. Or any new beer drinkers. Lots of sediment forms at bottom of bottle.
3.0 2010 bottle pours hazy yellow with tall white head. Smell is musty wheat and rotten orange rind. Taste is decent, a solid Belgian wit but not too impressive. Similar to hoegaarden or other cheap Belgian wit beers.
3.4 Pours a honey-gold color with whit head; lots of floating sediment. Yeasty-fruity aroma. Taste - Wheat malt, orange marmalade, yeast and some vanilla and clove. Has that belgian malt flavor. Has quite an alcohol kick to it. Tastes a lot like regular Blue Moon on steroids. This is good.
2.7 Not much of a difference from a normal blue moon other than the alcohol content. I didnt have high expectations but this was pretty disappointing.
2.4 A - pours milky banana amber with high foamy head S - grains and subtle yeasts, coriander and light citrus notes, lightest hint of banana. M - High carb with nice light body . T - yeasty French breads light orange and coriander notes. Nice nose empty middle yeasty finish. A little dry throughout. O - not as good as the Blue Moon Pale moon. Not as well rounded a beer. 4+/5-
3.1 Pours a hazy orange with a pillowy white head. The nose is slightly acidic, orange peel, some clove. The taste is moderately sweet, a bit yeasty. Unstructured finish. The body’s medium, somewhat acidic. Overall, nothing particularly special, not bad either.
1.3 No head, too sweet, aftertaste is pure alcohol.
3.5 This beer is a stronger version of regular Blue Moon with the same great general flavor. You can definitely taste the higher alcohol content yet it is not overpowering.
4.5 Found two bottles of this in a little beer store. 2009 edition. I was a little concerned with how old they were but they had been kept chilled and in the dark so I had hope. Lots of sediment at the bottom of the bottle with this one. Nose is of orange peel, coriander, wheat, and yeast. Very hazy appearance. This was a delicious beer. So much flavor going on here. It is like an amplified version of a regular blue moon. Lots of flavor notes on the palate and the finish is long and lingering. Complex to say the least. Great brew, if you ever get the chance to try it, absolutely do so.
2.7 Bottle--ok, not too bad, but doesn’t measure up to other Belgian type beers. Pours a hazy lemon color with no head. The aroma was of orange and yeast. Tasted similar to their wheat ale with some malt. A little thick and sweet on the finish. When the label said to use an orange slice, I should have known. At least it was on sale. 2.99 Produce Place.
2.4 Bottle at GABF. Pours a deeply hazed deep gold with a fluffy white head. Nose is soft phenols, clove and white pepper, crisp green apple notes. Nose isn’t that great. On tasting, more of the white pepper, soft citrus and odd apple. Really flabby and like an even more awful Blue Moon Belg. White. Not a fan.
2.9 6 Oct 2011, bottle, 2010 vintage. orange, hazy. smells like a spiced high abv beer. corriander, butterscotch, CO2. sweet, alcohol, and sharp CO2. not the greatest. med body and fizzy. tastes a lot like a pumpkin ale. alcohol makes the spiced (nutmeg?) flavour much sharper. alcohol is pretty noticeable but spiced flavor is dominant. not the best. couldn’t drink much of it. definitely need to split a bottle. flavor is too sharp and spiced.
3.0 Bottle. Pours a hazed gold with a thin white head and quite a few beige to grey floaties. Soft citrus and wheat, light lemon on the nose. A little acidic sourness, tart wheat. Medium bodied, sweet citrus candy, lemon tartness.
3.3 Better than expected. Think of blue moon with a bit of uffda. Pours a typical orange with a fizzy white head. Nose is of light cities and spice. A BMC buddy brought this to the new years party, I gave it a shot. Not bad.
2.7 Bottle from Pick’s Liquors poured into a snifter. 2009 version. Pours a cloudy orange with a big off-white head. Slight aroma of orange, caramel and clover. Taste is medium sweet and lightly sour. Tastes strongly of clover and orange. Light bodied with a thick and sticky texture. Fizzy carbonation and not much of a a finish. Overall, not my favorite. Aging has not been kind to this beer. It was much better when it was fresh.
3.1 ...looked decent in the glass with a cloudy reddish hue, and a small tan head, that faded quickly. Flavors were hinted with darker malt than the normal moon, with of course more alcohol, and a stronger flavor. Had some thickness to it with medium carbonation, wheat, citrus, some clove, yeast as well. Finished with some alcohol, but really wasn’t that bad. It was overpriced though, and wasn’t anything special.
3.3 tasting on 8/20/11. cloudy yellow pour with a 1+ finger white head which quickly drops to almost nothing. light citrus nose - nothing else really going on. medium body with orange peel, coriander, light yeast phenols and light apple notes. semi-dry finish with apples and spices. very one dimensional throughout... good flavors but lacking any depth and complexity. highly drinkable for 8% abv.
3.1 To me this tasted more like a more boozy version of blue moon, had all the same makings, aromas of coriander, banana, clove, spice, hint of orange, and the same flavors with a boozy aftertaste.
3.9 Sweet and spicy aroma. Smells of banana and faint lemon citrus. Sweet - almost syrupy mouthfeel. Lots of nice yeasty spice notes. Lovely complexity. This should be the regular Blue Moon!
3.5 Deep gold, medium haze, nice white head borders on creamy. Aroma is honey accented wheat, coriander, and citrus. Flavor matches, with a sweet orange and spice note on the finish. Easily one of the best beers I’ve ever had from a big brewer
3.4 Sampled at Texas Beerfest. Pours a cloudy orange copper with a thick creamy off white head that leaves spotty lacing along the glass. The aroma is a sweet malt with honey and orange peel. Medium mouthfeel with a sweet belgian yeast and coriander with a spicy finish. A decent Belgian strong ale.
