Blue Moon Harvest Pumpkin Wheat

Blue Moon Harvest Pumpkin Wheat

In 1995, we crafted our first autumn seasonal—Pumpkin Ale. At the time, Oktoberfest beers were in high demand. For our version, we wanted to create a beer that was a little different than what was already out there and complemented the season by highlighting the flavors we’ve all grown to love during this time. It was so popular that it became the first nationally available pumpkin ale. Harvest Pumpkin Wheat, as it’s called now, is crafted with pumpkin and spices of cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and allspice for a taste you’ll want to fall right into.

3.3 Pours an autumn color. Okay, burnt orange. Somewhat hazy. Some sediment in it. Two finger lightly cream colored head. Light retention, light lacing. Aroma is pumpkin and pumpkin spice. Bready and bread crust. A little wheaty. Taste is pumpkin and pumpkin spice. A little more pumpkin and a little less spice than most pumpkin beers. Bready. Has a nice allspice kick on the finish. Mouthfeel is light to medium bodied. A little pie spice bitterness on the finish. Overall, pretty good. Considerably different than most pumpkin beers, it’s worth a shot. I’d probably buy it again and probably recommend it.
2.0 From Sept 2008 This pours a clear reddish gold with a 2 finger head of foam. Good head retention and some lacing. The smell smells slightly spicy, slightly malty. Not much going on. The taste is light but does at least have some character. Light spices, maybe some nutmeg other, are up front with really light pumpkin flavour and some sweet malt. It finishes slightly bitterish. Not bad. The mouthfeel is light close to medium but there's a harshness on my tongue that I'm not very fond of... Overall, worth visiting once for me but I won't buy it again.
3.3 Bottle, small quickly dissapearing bubbly creamy head, light hazy very deep orange color, light spicy melange aroma with hints of smoked wood and pumpkin, flavor of spices with some yeastiness and hint of pumpkin, and biscuity malt behind, carbonation just a bit agressive. Nice and enjoyable.
2.6 Maybe because I don't really like pumpkin anything I shouldn't be reviewing this. For my personal flavor preferences it would get about a 0.5, but I gave it a 2.6 because I feel that's more what it would deserve if I did enjoy said pumpkin flavoring.
2.4 Balance is especially important in a spicy forward beer like a pumpkin beer, and this one doesn’t quite make the grade. Light and watery, yet still overly aggressive on the pumpkin spice.
3.0 Bottle. Clear copper amber with not lasting off-white head. Smell of fruity esters, spices, nutmeg, allspice. Medium sweetness, spicy, clove, caramel, nutmeg, pumpkin flavors with light bitterness. Light-medium bodied, strong carbonation.
3.0 Has an ultra clear light copper color with a decent head of sustainable off-white foam. Has an aroma that starts off as wet wheat and fresh pumpkin guts, but then has a cheap drugstore cologne thing going on that almost ruins the whole experience. It has a better taste than it does aroma. Not a terrible pumpkin beer, but not an ace.
2.7 ABV - 5.7 .Appearance: Clear amber, one finger of off white head. Not much head retention. .Aroma: Upfront spice, cinnamon, nutmeg, sweet malt. .Taste: Good mix of sweetness and spice, little on the sweet side, good amount of bitterness on the finish, slight citrus. .Mouthfeel: Thin, light bodied, watery. .Overall: C. .Lack of balance and a watery, thin mouthfeel put a damper on the experience. Looks great in the glass though.
3.0 Bottle. Clear copper with beige head. The aroma is quite spicy with notes of cinnamon, nuts, clove and ripe fruits. Sweet and spicy flavor with notes of clove, cinnamon, citrus, raisin and ripe fruits, slightly alcoholic. Medium-bodied.
3.0 Reddish copper color with a big off white head. Aroma sweat and earthy, with nutmeg, clove, and spice notes. Taste is very sweet, strong notes of nutmeg, cinnamon, clove, and allspice. Not badly made, but definitely an acquired taste...
2.8 Bottle clear deep copper color, scant thin off-white head. Plenty of sweet holiday spice in the aroma. Dry carmelized malt flavors and a quick dry finish. Decent but unimpressive fall seasonal. Earlier Rating: 10/29/2004 Total Score: 2.8 Bottle Pours a clear deep copper with a short lived fizzy white head. No real lacing Aroma is a slight cinimon/pumpkin thats smells sweet like cinimon candy. Some malts and no hop aroma. Flavor is consistant, but not as sweet as it smelled. Lively carbonation and a nice feel. Surprisingly bitter aftertaste. Interesting but I’ll never get used to pumpkin beer.
3.2 Refrigerated 12 oz. brown bottle poured into a weizen glass. Clear copper with small off-white head. Aroma is pumpkin & cinnamon, medium body, lower carbonation, and little lacing. Taste is wheat ester, pumpkin, all spice, and some caramel malt. Earlier Rating: 10/10/2010 Total Score: 1.9 Refrigerated bottle poured into a shaker. Pours a medium amber, some lacing, low carbonation, and a small off-white head that dissapates quickly. Taste is dark malt and some pumpkin, and some spice. Boring not interested in buying any more.
3.2 Bottle: Clear, dark, wet, copper with a small off-wite head. Lightly dusty pumpkin spice, cola aroma. Taste is sweet, caramel malt, pumpkin pie mix, toasted wheat. Not a bad pumpkin beer, really.....not overblown or watery, well carbonated......subtle, but a good cumulative spicy warmth to it. A nice little fall beer. Earlier Rating: 9/13/2013 Total Score: 2.6 Clear, amber-orange with a fluffy, off-white head. Spiced pumpkin aroma...clove, nutmeg. Taste is fairly natural pumpkin, spices.... A little too sweet....OK.
2.7 Root, sweet pumpkin aroma. Amber appearance. Small head, highly carbonated. Small bitterness in palate.
3.1 (12oz bottle) AROMA: light malt, some sweetness, pumpkin, touch of spice, creamy and vanilla APPEARANCE: nice looking beer, heads a bit thin but leaves a lingering white film, copper/orange amber, decent visible carbonation, clear TASTE: slightly bitter roasted malt, wheat, pumpkin, some cloves/spices, PALATE: medium body, some spritz, some oiliness, mostly smooth/slick, ok bitterness. OVERALL: ok ale, not really a wheat ale, hint of pumpkin is nice and not overdone, pretty good balance but not too complex, decent beer but still has that mass market taste..
2.7 Evidently, I'm pumpkin impaired. First time I've tried a pumpkin flavored beer of any type, so wasn't sure what to expect. I'm not tasting the pumpkin at all (probably a good thing), but this still works for me as an Oktoberfest inspired beer. Matter of fact, best I've tried this season. Better than the Sam Adams swill, for sure.
3.3 12oz bottle from the fridge. Apparently my pumpkin-beer-loving wife bought this. Nose is pumpkin spice. Sip adds light hop flavors and bread/butter crackers. Sweet and Fall spices. Earlier Rating: 10/30/2011 Total Score: 3.1 rerated on 9/23/2012 - 12oz bottle - pours clear caramel with off-white head and thin lacing. Nose is pumpkin and caramel. Flavor adds pumpkin pie and faint brown sugar. Taste is moderately sweet. thin to sticky texture. not as bad as I remember it. bottle in a pint glass - pours clear caramel with white head and evident lacing. Aroma is caramel malts and faint pumpkin. Taste is sweet at first and a little bitter at the end. Body is medium and texture is thin. Finish is dry, as in nearly non-existent. Aftertaste is a little metallic. Non-offensive but light on flavor. 6/4/6/2/12 or 3.0 on 10/30/2011
3.3 12oz bottle to tulip. Pours clear amber red, decent tan head. Aroma of bread, caramel, nutmeg, cinnamon. Taste of same with the good ol pumpkin spice qualities. Pretty mild as far as the seasonal goes. Mild is good though. Tastes more rye than wheat to me.
3.9 Nice when really cold. Gets a bit awkward when sitting a while. Overall really liked it though. Shame I can't buy in the UK!
3.1 Very nice pumpkin spice aroma...taste is similar but more like a beer and less flavor than smell....some light diversity...wish it tasted more like smell and had a touch more sweetness... finish is very much like a cheaper beer and that hurts it Earlier Rating: 1/14/2012 Total Score: 3.1 pretty tasty good smelling seasonal beer... not to hoppy... finish lingers in your mouth for a while
3.3 Bottle. it poured a copper color with a quicky disipating off-white head. The aroma had notes of spices - cinnamon, allspice and clove- and of course pumpkin. The taste had some light caramel sweetness that balanced out a little hoppy bitterness on the finish. While I am not a big pumpkin fan this was actually pretty good. Earlier Rating: 9/28/2015 Total Score: 2.8 Draft. Amber color with frothy white head. Aroma is malty. Flavor is pumpkin and spices. Taste is balanced.
3.2 From old tasting notes. Bright copper color. Bubbly beige head. Fragrant pumpkin malt aroma. Interesting fruity malt flavor is complex and flavorful. Notes of pumpkin, nutmeg and cinnamon are readily present. Spicy hop finish.
2.1 Donker oranje kleur, weinig schuim.de geur redelijk chemisch. Redelijk smaakloos, valt wat tegen.
3.0 12 ounce bottle Hiding in the back of the fridge after a party this would not have been a beer I normally opted to try. It’s an average Blue Moon - better than nothing but hardly a release to get excited about. Your mileage may vary but I’d rather buy local since almost any city will have something at least as good. Aroma / Appearance - Watery marmalade fills the pint glass. A gentle offwhite head paints a soft canopy. The warm smell of Costco pumpkin pie is tethered by a gentle earthiness. The spices come mostly in the form of nutmeg with few frills. Flavor / Palate - Vanilla ice cream paired with overdone pumpkin pie make it hard to focus on the other aspects. The basic fluid profile does not delve too deep. Instead it shoots for being a run of the mill seasonal that corners over 40% of the market due to branding. I’ll pass in the future.
3.3 A tough aroma which affected the taste. It was Pumpkinie with a little pallet. Tasted by Cannery Row Beer Club. Cheers!
3.3 Bottle. Pours a dark copper color with white head. Pumpkin, caramel, malty, slight roasted sunfllower seed aromas. Pumpkin, caramel, malty, sunflower seed flavors. This was the third beer of my blind tasting of seven pumpkin beers.
3.9 nice pumpkin beer good pumpkin flavors not to sweet. nice blend of spices.
3.4 Very nice and refreshing. Strange thin spices features but still good to enjoy with friends at all time.
2.7 Bottle - Pours medium amber with fizzy white head. Aroma of pumpkin bread, spices, caramel, malt. Flavors of pumpkin pie, cloves, nutmeg, cinnamon, biscuit, malty, with mild hops end.
2.8 Pours an amber color with a white head. Aroma is skunk with some pumpkin. Flavor is sweet with caramel malts. Finish is all pumpkin with some cinnamon. Better than I thought but still not great.
