Blue Point Oatmeal Stout

Blue Point Oatmeal Stout

Blue Point Brewing’s Oatmeal Stout is a rich, deeply malted extravaganza of a beer. The Oatmeal Stout is a dark beer drinker’s dream come true. The Oatmeal Stout is made from Pale, Crystal, Chocolate and Roasted Malts. In addition Flaked Oats are added to the mix and the outcome is an uncommonly silky brew. This legendary dark beer is full flavored and rich tasting. A romantically delicious microbrew to share with someone special.

2.8 The aroma is roasted malt chocolate coffee and oats. The appearance is dark brown with a tan head. The taste is like the aims except it has a sour acidic quality. The palate is thin. Overall drinkable but not the best.
2.8 The palate is kinda thin with a slight tang acidic at the end. It's very fizzy with high scrub on the bubbles. It's refreshing but not very substance.
2.8 It seemed to have a nice aroma. A nice mix of oats and roasted malts. There was even a hint of smoke to it. Flavor seemed to be off balanced. While there was nice flavors of oats and roasted malts. There was a unsettling acidic flavor. Although it was mild, I could not get around it. Light on the palate.
3.4 Pours a dark black with light brown head. Has a sweet chocolate and sugar aroma. Taste is very sweet with chocolate, some malt, grain, and caramel.
4.0 On tap & House of Brews, NY. Clear almost black color with small creamy tan-like head and good lacing. Aroma of roasted malt, cappuchino, chocolate and molasses. Tastes of sweet milk chocolate, caramel and white coffee, following is flaky and grainy, while finish is mild herbal bitter with warming aftertaste. Full body, creamy texture and average carbonation in palate. Pretty smooth and drinkable stout...
4.5 Smooth silky chocolate with great taste
3.6 Undated 22 oz bottle served in a snifter. This Oatmeal Stout pours very dark mahogany but is clear and the bottle lacks sediment. The small tan head is short-lived and lives scant lacing. Hints of dried fruits, bourbon(!) and faint coffee add to the flavor which is, as expected, dominated by roasted grains. The oatmeal is evident in the aroma, flavor and soft feel. No burnt grain. Feel: Well chosen low carbonation. Medium-full bodied. Nicely smooth.
3.2 Bomber to pint (shared with the Mrs.). Looks good for the style; cola with foamy beige head. Smells of dark malt, bitter chocolate, and roast. Tastes like it smells with an average mouthfeel. The bitterness in the nose is more of a metallic flavor. Alright, but it doesn’t strike me as a Sweet Stout.
3.5 Had a glass on tap as part of a sampler at Ashley’s in Ann Arbor. Weird. Kinda hole with a big lactose taste.
2.8 Bottle at home. Aroma of roasted malts, cola. Thin, watery palate. Light roasted malt flavor, ash, not too sweet. Finish is thin and hollow.
1.5 Bottle and served in snifter: Roast, milk chocolate syrup. very light dark fruits, herbal and developing lactic sourness. Add in an uber thin palate and you have a piss poor example of a sweet stout. That is all I will say about this.
2.7 Unimpressive. Aroma was subdued but fine. Mix of malt and roast dark pour. 2 for palate. Watery thin and flavors were minimal. No thx
3.2 Eh, everything about this screams average. Kind of a dull pitch black pour and the head disappears so fast you wouldn’t even know it was ever there. No lacing and somewhat watery body. The aroma is ok with some nice malt flavors standing out. The taste is somewhat sweet up front but whatever they were going for in the finish just doesn’t work. It’s watery and slightly metallicy. Needs to be thickened just a hair to add some depth and complexity!
3.2 Draft at Louis Benton, lots of roasty aromas, smooth silky palate with a hint of roasted coffee , not the best oatmeal stout I've ever had but far from the worst , not bad
3.2 pours clear dark brown with a medium-sized light beige head, some retention and lacing. silky chocolate and vanilla beans, minerals, overdone coffee. hint of sweetness but ends with a dry bitter coffee finish. prickly carbonation, light body to medium body. ok.
3.0 Dark pour, thin brown head. Little lacing. A little watered down not to thick. Smooth.
2.9 Pours dark brown with a thin tan head leaves little residue. Tastes like burnt outmeal that has been wateres down. Not a recommended beer. An unimpressive entry from a normally good brewer.
3.2 On tap. Pours dark brown/black color with a creamy tan head. Aroma of smoke, chocolate, and roasted malt. Taste sweet chocolate, roasted and caramel malt, and again some smoke.
3.6 Aroma is roasted malts, yeast, lemons and light dark fruit. The flavor is dark fruit/berries, roasted malts, light coffee, mild sweetness and a tart/acidic finish.
3.0 A bit disappointed in this one. On tap at Sailfish Brewery in Fort Pierce. Dark cola looking beer with a thin, off-white head. Aromas of faint roasted grains and not much else. Tastes of watery dark coffee, some bittersweet chocolate, and roasted grains. Chalky, dry finish. Very average.
3.3 Bottle shared with charule at houghs. Roasted malt aroma. Extremely watered down taste and mouth feel. Slightly smokey.
2.7 Bomber at Houghs. Poured black with tan head. Light malty aromas diificult to pickup. Watered down stout flavor slightly bitter. Wont get again.
3.2 Draught at Rattle & Hum NYC sept 2012. Black beer with a small tanned head. Oat and coffee aroma. Oat, coffee and malty flavour. Rather thin one...
3.1 Bomber. Near black pour with a frothy, light brown head. Roasty aroma, with a hint of resiny hops. A somewhat weak roast flavor. The oatmeal bitterness is definitely there in the finish. Watery texture with soft carbonation. Lacking in body and pretty bland.
2.1 Pour from a 22oz bottle. Dark brew with generous head. Faint aroma of roasted grain. Surprisingly thin body. Weak taste. Burnt grains at the start transitioning to to sweet malts and then a sour, lactic and vegetal finish. Metallic notes at the very end. Distinctly not pleasant. Maybe this had gone bad? I dunno, not so good.
3.4 Deep black color that isn’t hazy. Coffee and oat aroma with a cupcake hints. The palate has a slight smokyness to it. It is full bodied yet flat. Not at all sweet. A great oatmeal backing.
3.1 Black with thin white head. Aroma is vaguely sweet, roasted malt. Flavor is a little sweet with a small bit of roasted malt. It’s a little watery which is somewhat distracted. Nice and smooth, but I’d like a little more malt to give it more body. Overall, it’s ok but nothing special.
2.6 22oz bottle. black with a small, stable, creamy tan head. milk chocolate and brown sugar aroma. unfitting, light tart character to this one. roasty notes, but not sweet enough. palate is spot on with a creamy fullness. vinous and oddly tart. might be something wrong.
2.8 Bomber from Sam’s, Durham. Handsome pour, cola brown and roiling, with a nice head and a body that settles into something substantial. Weakish aroma, though, of artifical chocolate, flaky grain, and a bit of coffee. Mouthfeel was also a bit on the airy side, anything but the heft this style requires. And the tastes also revealed some pronounced tartness. Disappointment, because I was so in the mood for exactly this style of beer. Would consider trying again on the odds that I got an off bottle.
3.6 A good brew. On tap at Indigo’s. Aromas are of roasted malt and chocolate/cocoa. Pour is dark brown with a tan head. The flavors are nice with a solid, roasted malt backbone and a finish of chocolate and oats. Very nice.
