3.6 Bottle at work from Majo. Pours bit hazy orange color, white head. Aroma is malty, citrusy, rye, herbal. Taste is medium sweet, medium bitter, citrusy, rye, malt.
3.3 Nice amber/orange color; Medium creamy body; Aroma of caramel malt, rye, citrus hops, & spice; Flavor of sweet malt, pine hops, rye, caramel and citrus; Finish is slightly bitter; Nice aroma - decent.
3.2 Poured from a 22 OZ bomber into a pint glass. Aroma- some toasted malt with a floral/citrus finish Appearance- a nice solid murky orange/brown color, had a small white head. Taste- had a faint rye taste with a citrus follow up. Palate- A medium bodied brew with moderate carbonation. Overall- Not a bad beer, I have not had many ryes and I would drink this again and try other rye brands.
5.0 My favorite Rye beer of all time... So my rating is a bit biased. Love everything about it. Rich copper in color. Aromas of deep, Rye malts. Taste is a quick hit of Rye with pretty big citrusy hops, 48 IBUs. One of the best if your a fan of Rye
2.3 Hazy amber pour with a white head. Aromas of hop with earthy/spicy rye. Flavor is spicy rye with some citrus hops. No single flavor really pops with this brew. It’s ok but nothing special.
3.2 Hazy amber orange pour with a bubbly white head. Aroma is hoppy and sweet. Flavor is mild with some nice hop bitterness. Smooth, without too much rye.
3.4 Big bottle at The New Penguin, 06/04/14. Dusky peach bright with fizz under a tight white foam. Peach bomb nose with lemon-infused cake, honey and lemon throat sweet, tempura and pine needle hop notes. Soapy and shot through with honey and lemon; warm booze, orange liqueur, peach iced tea and sweet deep-fried batter flavours. Balancing bitter finish. Very West Coast. Not my favourite kind of IPA- too much floweriness and cake, but very decent nonetheless.
3.6 Rcvd in trade. The appearance had a hazy golden colored body, one finger white foamy head that dies within a half minute adequate clingy and coated lacing graces the sides of the glass. The smell had a nice rye malt up front. There’s a decent amount of citrus hoppiness coming out along with some pine in an earthy sort of way. The taste had a sweet and somewhat earthy with an adequate spicy flavoring from the rye. Everything combines fantastic. The aftertaste is somewhat spicy yet malty aftertaste and finish (though I do have to admit, the finish does seem slightly grainy as well). The palate sits about a medium with a decent harshness of a typical Rye Beer trying to pound my mouth and tongue, but for the most part it doesn’t as it seems balanced enough to not let the carbonation add to the pounding of the mouth and tongue, decent sessionability. Overall, this is a pretty good Rye Beer that I would be willing to have again.
3.0 On tap at Battleship. Pours a golden color with medium white head. Aromas are of rye, floral hops, sweet caramel malts. Taste is of a faint IPA with an grassy grassy and earthiness to it. Hints of pine, spruce, and lemon from the hops. Not bad. Prob a first and last.
3.1 Medium brown with medium brown head. Aroma grassy and piney hops, and some bread-like malt. Medium full body. Flavor is overall sweet. There is some bit of spice, and some hops. Drinkable for sure but I think a little too sweet and a tad out of balance.
3.5 Cask at the Ginger Man, NYC, 23/11/13. Clear golden amber with a moderate off white covering. Nose is hops, rye strains evident, citric notes, woody tones, bitter orange. Taste comprises orange pith, caramel malt, rye notes, light spice, hint of grapefruit. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, smooth on the palate, light spice and hop bitterness in the finish. Decent drop - suited cask conditioning well.
3.1 Bottle. This is a nice rye all with some dry rye bite and good hop undertones.
2.9 Malty sweetness that reminds me of dried leaves and dirt. some light spicy rye and herbal hops are there as well.
2.9 A little too sweet for me, very sweet and big rye flavors, meh it’s ok. Too sweet though
3.8 Bottle. Light brown pour with thin white head that dissipates. Medium carbonation with ipa aroma. Interesting flavor with hop presence and rye on the back. Enjoyable.
3.9 A: Amber/Golden Straw Hue, Passes Some Light Through, White Head Ring, Good Lacing S: Rye, Caramel T: Rye, Bready, Caramel M: Good Carbonation, Medium Bodied, Dry, Clean Overall, a decent bready rye ale with a nice lingering taste.
3.7 Draft at Champs Altoona. Pours brown with an inch of white foam. Leaves some trace lacing. Nice rye notes of the nose even with the massively frozen glass. Lots of spicy rye on the tongue. I hate rye beers that don’t taste of rye. This ones pretty groovy.
3.8 This is a good one. Good pour with a nice head and lacing. Good sweet aroma and taste. Hops follow and the rye really makes this one stand out. Good brew.
3.1 Taster on tap at HopCat in East Lansing. Clear golden orange color. Little off-white head. Some loose lace. Medium body. Lighter, kind of crisp carbonation. More dry finish. Sweeter taste for an IPA, moderate bitter. Caramel malt, rye is very subtle. Some spicy hop. Alright.
3.9 I poured a 22oz bottle into a tulip glass. There was no freshness date. It cost $4.99 ($0.23 per ounce). Appearance: Murky copper-colored body. Forms a large, white, frothy head which laces and retains well. Smell: Rye is quite prominent (not surprisingly), but there’s a sweet maltiness to the aroma as well. Taste: It’s hard to have expectations about Blue Point Rastafa Rye Ale since it doesn’t really conform to any style per se. I’ve had plenty of pale ales and IPAs with a strong rye character, though there’s not enough hop presence for this to be an IPA and the body is a bit too big to be an ordinary pale ale. So what is this beer? Well, it’s technically a "Specialty Grain", as the rye definitely is the star of the show. Though a better description might just be "a very good beer". The palette opens with a strong malty presence, not unlike that of an amber ale. Slightly sweet flavor of caramel are prominent, but they’re quickly obscured by the beers strong rye character. It’s a dry spiciness and works well with the malts to create for a slightly bready-like flavor (ya know - rye bread?). Significant bitterness comes out in the second half of the swig. It’s slightly flower-like, but more on the spicy/earthy side. Rye flavor returns on the finish and in the aftertaste, but so does the malty sweetness. Overall, this is a really well-balanced beer with an enjoyable taste palette. It’s a tad repetitive, but what’s here is quite enjoyable. Drinkability: Blue Point Rastafa Rye Ale does not nearly drink as big of a beer as it is at 7.5% ABV. The mouthfeel is firm, but soft and smooth with no alcohol presence whatsoever. I wouldn’t call it refreshing, but it’s certainly no challenge to drink. You don’t have to be a hophead to enjoy this since it’s only 48 IBUs, and only leaves a subtle aftertaste (though I wouldn’t consider it refreshing). Paired with the right meal, I think this could be enjoyed even more than as a stand-alone beverage.
3.4 Cloudy amber with a nice cream colored head. Smooth and hides it’s ABV very well. Got a BOGO so that’s even better.
3.6 22oz bottle served in a Sierra Nevada pint glass. (from 2011 notes) It pours a hazy reddish amber with a rather thin but durable off-white head. Ample, mostly fine carbonation can be seen. Aroma: plenty of caramel with some baked bread, light toasted grains, and hints of hops and rye. Nice if rather subdued. The taste is pretty balanced between sweet and bitter, with a good amount of hop flavor mid-taste, and leaving a mildly bitter and hoppy aftertaste. Rye is evident too. Not too complex but well done and with more than adequately rich flavor for style and some light fruitiness. Medium bodied; excellent carbonation; rather smooth with a hint of dryness. Mouthfeel is the only dimension where the higher ABV is evident. O - a fine session beer. Easily recommended to fans of rye beers. ... wait, I see the ABV is 7.5; it is well hidden in both aroma and taste, so be careful.
3.6 Copper pour with a white head. Rye and citrusy flavors, and some sweetness. It is a nice rye beer.
3.7 Bottle from Total Wine in Boca Raton, FL. Overall a very nice orange-haze pour into a tulip at home. Some white head and lacing. Good aroma of rye, bread, some floral sweetness. Taste is kind of sweet for a rye but not overdone. I get the rye, bread, fruits, light sweetness, and a somewhat dry finish. Nice finish with a hoppy rye flavor. Not bad.
4.0 Bottle from Plaza Liqour Store, Kissimmee, Florida. This is a hazy orange coloured beer with a sweet, juicy tangerine and orange flavour followed by sweet tropical notes, slight tartness and warmth on the finish.
4.1 Tap at Corrigans in St Pete. Smooth. Kinda fruity aftertaste for a rye beer . Personally liked it more than other reviewers
4.1 On tap at the Waterfront, New York on 9th July 2013. Slightly hazy amber with white ring of initially lacing foam. Yeastiness, hops and sweet malts in aroma. Hoppy with rear-mouth grassiness, while caramel malt clings to front of mouth. Bittersweet, well-balanced finish -bitterness among smoothly-blended flavours. Light carbonation, easy drinking for the strength.
3.2 Tap at Brass Tap Carrollwood. Pour amber red with a nice white head. Laces the cup well. Taste hops, citrus and hads a mild bitterness on the end.
2.9 On tap at the Knick. Really nice floral hoppy aroma, sweet with caramel and some brown sugar. Spicy rye grain notes. Hazy medium amber with thin off-white head. Medium body with heavy carbonation and carbonic fizz. Starts medium sweet with biscuit and toffee, light spicy character and decent floral hop flavor. Light sweet finish and smooth after.
3.6 Aroma is yeast, rye and light citrus. The flavor is rye/rye bread, mild/medium sweetness/almost sugary, citrus and a tangy/mildly bitter finish.
