3.0Pours a clear garnet/amber with a decent smoky linen head that depletes rather quickly. Aroma is caramel and hop spice. Taste is sweet caramel malt, biscuits and a bit of cocoa powder. Hop bitterness is rather muted, but in a good way for the style.
3.1On tap. Pours a nice amber color with a small white head. Aroma fruit and caramel. taste is similar with fruit, caramel and trace of spice. Mild bitterness with a slightly sweet finish. Moderate body, smooth with a definite caramel presence. Tad too sweet.
2.4Dark, reddish clear pour with thick, rather quick foam. Lots of sweet fruit and caramel in the nose. The taste balances the fruit and caramel. Medium body with moderate carbonation and slickness. It’s a little too sweet, even for a winter beer.
3.212oz bottle at 101 Constitution NW, Washington DC on 6-Mar-2017. Dark brown with a reddish hue and a thin white head. Aroma of sweet fruit and biscuit. Fully body and soft carbonation. Heavy taste of caramel, dark fruit, molasses and spices. Lightly hopped and heavy sweetness. A little too much for me.
3.2On tap, lounge at JFK. Deep brown amber colour, thin white foam. Quite rich, malty, hint of oil, and a little boozy, with a moderate hop bitterness. Would have benefited from being served warmer for sure, but not a bad wintry ale.
3.4Bottle pour into nonic pint glass from Cigarette City. Aroma is sweet caramel, dark fruits, brown sugar. Appearance is a clear, dark ruby red with minimal sparkle, 1/2 finger width white head with poor retention, no lacing. Taste is strong sweet fruity caramel. Palate is medium bodied with thick texture, average carbonation with late lively kick, sweet fruity finish. Overall, a nice winter offering but no complexity. A little too sweet, which is saying a lot coming from me.
3.3Pours a deep Amber with an off white head. Aroma of malt and brown sugar. A little sweeter than expected.
3.5Pours a reddish brown color with ivory colored head. Caramel malt, biscuit, bread, and some molasses on the nose; follows onto the palate. Medium bodied. Finishes with bread and molasses.
3.7Pours a clear, deep auburn with dense khaki head that reduces steadily but leaves a bit of lacing.
The nose is caramel, bread, molasses, malt riding over earthy yeasts. The palate is similar, a nice mix of seasonal flavors as advertised, with caramel, raisin and mild chocolate. The spice is more a suggestion than a strong note, and the herbal hops are mercifully restrained. The result is actually well balanced without having to shout about it.
This seems more like a traditional English ale. It’s nothing outlandish, but made with finesse to reflect the season and appeal to mature palates.
3.0Brown sugar, a bit sweet, caramel, watery molasses, moderate maltiness, mild earthy hoppiness, stronger as it warms; just okay.
3.212 ounce bottle purchased at Total Wine Pembroke Pines, FL for $8.99/6-pack. Good.
2.4Bottle poured into a Lagunitas jar. I was really not liking this when I saw the ABInBev connection... glad I only bought one bottle. ’Hearty and robust’? More like sugary and off-flavored. Had to dump this into the glass to get any head at all, which was fleeting. Smells of malt, tastes of brown malt and brown sugar. Light on the hops as well. Simple, bland, unbalanced, ordinary, I would have been pissed off if I bought a 6 pack.
3.0Bottle. Trade with Leighton. Cheers. Clear amber. Film of clingy, off white head. Spicy, biscuit, toffee malts. Some raisin fruitiness. Taste is burnt toffee sweet. Has a rising, quite harsh bitterness. Full body. Finishes sweet, with more of the bitterness. Ok at best.
3.1Dark auburn body with dense tan head. Malt heavy aroma that has hints of caramel and dough. Nutty malt taste spiked with winter spices.
2.8Kind of a boring Amber ale that is middle of the rode. Not too winter like for me but I’ll drink.
3.0Pours amber with a fluffy beige head that quickly died down. Aroma is caramel, toast and bread. Taste is sweet with a trace of hops. Medium bodied.
3.312 Fl. Oz. Bottle. Poured dark copper, clear with a small white head and a bit of a spotty lacing on the glass. Aroma of roasted malts and caramel combined with some earthy notes. Taste is sweet, malts and caramel notes are predominant, slightly bitter and slightly boozy. Actually not bad pleasantly surprised.
3.3Comes out of tap bubbly caramel brown with a thick buff head. Malty aroma has a note of cinnamon and a hint of hops. Crisp, malty flavor echoes the cinnamon of the aroma and the hoppy hint. Texture is so-so, but it goes down well. A good way to welcome winter and the new solar year.
3.2Draft. Pours a dark amber color with a thin white head. Aroma is slightly sweet with roasted malt notes. Flavor has some booziness up front. Slight touch of bitterness in the finish
2.7Very clear dark amber. Smooth initial flavor with sharp bitter aftertaste. Light lingering foam
3.8The aroma and appearance are pleasing, not an overwhelming chocolate taste, just enough so you know it’s there. Leaves a good after taste.
2.9Pours a light amber. Has a fruity malt and winter spice aroma. A light body beer with flavors of caramel, fruity malts, cinnamon, and nutmeg
3.712 ounce bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 10/17/2012. Pours slightly hazy deep reddish copper color with a 1-2 finger dense light khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice dense soapy lacing clings around the glass, with some light streaming carbonation. Aromas of caramel, toffee, toast, raisin, plum, fig, brown sugar, brown bread, light chocolate, herbal, and yeast/toasted earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance and complexity of dark/bready malt, fruity yeast, and light earthy hop notes; with solid strength. Taste of big caramel, toffee, toast, dark bread, brown sugar, raisin, plum, fig, light chocolate, herbal, and yeast/toasted earthiness. Light amount of herbal/roast bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of caramel, toast, toffee, dark bread, brown sugar, raisin, plum, fig, light chocolate, herbal, and toast/yeast earthiness. Nice complexity and robustness of dark/bready malt, fruity yeast, and earthy hop flavors; with a good bitterness/sweetness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a smooth and moderately creamy/bready mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is well hidden with only a slight warming present after the finish. Overall this is a nice English amber ale, more of a winter warmer in my opinion. All around good robustness and balance of dark/bready malt, fruit yeast, and earthy hop flavors; and very smooth to sip on. A nicely enjoyable offering.
3.1A pretty basic winter ale. Mellow overall, but with a pleasant roasted sweetness.

Poured from bottle into a pint glass
Appearance – The beer pours light copper color with a thick two finger off white head. The head has a nice level of retention, slowly fading over time to leave a decent level of lace on the sides of the glass.
Smell – The aroma is heaviest of a caramel sweetness and a moderately strong toasted malt smell. Mixed with these aromas is a bit of a nutty and alcohol smell, producing a rather warming smell overall.
Taste – The taste begins with a flavor of a caramel sweetness mixed with toasted malt. As the taste moves forward, it sweetness further with toffee like flavors hitting the tongue as well as a bit of nuttiness. About this time some flavors of a light bitter hop of a more herbal/grassy nature meet the tongue. The mainly sweeter and toasted malty flavors take the taste to its end where they are joined by flavors of a light alcohol, some oak, and as well as a light spice of nutmeg and cinnamon. In the end with the advent of the spice, oak, alcohol and hop, the tongue is left with a warmingly sweet and malty flavor to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is slightly creamier then average with a carbonation level that is on the lower side. Both the lower carbonation and thicker body suit well the warming, light nut, hop, and spice flavors of the brew quite well and make for a nice slow drinker.
Overall – A somewhat complex winter warmer style with a rather nice blend of spice, nut/oak, hop, and sweet malty flavors. It is a rather enjoyable brew to drink.
3.712 fl oz bottle from Potsdam NY, served at cellar temperature in a tulip glass.
App.: Clear deep copper with a nice tan head.
Aroma: Rich maltiness, dark dried fruits, bread crust, melanoidin, toffee/caramel notes, somewhat vinous, brighter fruitiness, a touch of butterscotch, a little Sherry-like oxidation.
Palate: Medium+ body, fairly full effervescence.
Flav.: Lots of toffee and brown sugar, tastes like those Halloween kisses, dark bread crust, quite malty and delicious; dry with some bitterness and a very malty, deep toffee, slightly boozy finish.
This is a great winter beer. I drank it in May and also enjoyed it.
3.4Poured from 12 oz. bottle.
Clear, dark amber with a 2-finger pale buff colored head and very good lacing.
Aroma of toffee, bread, mild dark fruit and mild earthy spices.
Taste of toffee, spices, traditional English fruit cake, dark fruit and caramel.
Medium body and high/medium carbonization.
Overall, tastes like a sweet and spice Christmas treat.
3.6Amber in colour, malty nose. The beer starts malty and roasted dry. Very smooth. The mainpart continues very smooth, roasted dry with a subtle malty sweetness. Ver well balanced. The aftertaste is smooth, roasted-dry, malty and not too sweet.
A very nice winter ale. I like it - not too sweet and easy drinkable! --> 12/12/12/12
3.3Bottle, screw top. Nose lightly malty and dusty, not too sweet but with some mild toasted edges and caramel twang. Pours a really nice dark amber/copper with dense sudsy beige head. Taste sweet with very low bitterness but a toasty, bready finish into the aftertaste, some nice chewy caramel with traditional hops. Strikes a great balance between malt and hops. Medium body hides alcohol well, lightly crisp, smooth without being soft (on account of light tang). Actually reminds a lot of Sam Adams, though this has mild fruity and nutty accents that render it an improvement. Enjoyed!
2.92/8/2014. From bottle. amber color with a white head. Malty and spicy aromas. Light hops, a bit tart with seasonal spices. Nothing special, but drinkable.
