An American standard, BBC APA is a full bodied and heavily hopped American Ale. It is copper in color and brewed with a blend of pale and crystal malts, balancing the citrus and pine flavors from large doses of American and English hops to create a very drinkable, hoppy ale. BBC APA is a hophead’s dream!

2.3Appearance- Pours a hazy golden red with a cream head
Aroma- strong Hop scent with a very sweet undertone
T/P - Very light APA, Crisp and Hoppy some what sweet. goes down very smooth
3.5Pours a hazy dark caramel amber color. Medium white head, reducing to a small sticky topping and thick ring. Aroma carries some very nice citrus and tropical hops supported by moderate caramely malt, hoppy fruity, and sweet and very inviting. Medium body. Very firm bitterness cut by malt. Slick and fairly creamy. The bitterness comes on strong about 3/4 through then mellows through the finish of medium to long duration. Balanced enough that the bitterness does not overtake. Pretty nice.
3.0Sample at BBC on 9/13/13. Clear amber in color with a medium white head. Aroma of malt and floral hops. Malty flavor with slight caramel character and floral hops.
3.8On tap at bbc.. amber, a really good pa very earthy aroma and taste! Good pa!!!!!!!!!!
3.4February 2010. Bottle., Pours copper color with a white head. Hoppy aromas with pine and grass. Good hop flavors with floral notes. Bitter finish.
2.8Copper-brown with a pillowy, dark tan head.
Aroma is malt, floral/cherry.
Taste is slightly cherried...with a strong floral/herbal bitter.
A bit rough.
3.0Copper color with a big white head. Smells of citrus and malt. Tastes of citrus and a biter finish.
3.3Sampler at BBC downtown. Bright peachy amber color with a thin, lasting head. Aroma had very little to it...mostly malt. The flavor and body were very light and mostly malt with some residual sweetness.
2.3Not for me. Orange brown white off white head. Would have called it burnt orange if I liked it more. Aroma of grapefruit and lemon. First impression of the taste was that I was drinking a lemon scented cleanser. I like most of bbc, just not this. It looks and smells nice. Does that count?
3.3Bottle->SA. Dark copper with thick offwhite head. Aroma: hops, citrus, sour malt. Taste: subdued malt and hops. Bitter with smooth citrus. Good.
3.0Draft to taster at BBC. Looks solid; a transparent burnt-orange with sticky off-white lacing. Smells Tastes like it smells with an average mouthfeel. An okay example of the style.
3.4Draft @ BBC. Clear amber with a long lasting white head. Aroma is light citrus and floral with some cereal grain. Flavor is malty with a firm hop bitterness. Medium to light body with average carbonation. Fairly ordinary Pale, no real flaws just somewhat mild all around.
3.2Bottle. Pours copper with a small beige head. Very light aroma of sweet malts and citrus. Flavor of moderate sweet malts and earthy and citrus hops. Finish is more toward the malty side with a touch of citrus and pine hops. Also a strange herbal note.
3.7Pours a nice amber red with great aroma and taste. Had single bottle from world market. Great pale ale
3.112 fl oz bottle via my bro, served at cellar temperature in a tulip glass.
App.: Clear copper with a nice light tan foam.
Aroma: Strong caramel and sweet, sugary malts, grapefruit and marmalade, rye bread crust, fairly citrusy, a little pine/resin, a touch savoury/brothy, quite fruity, some berries, maybe apricot?, nice.
Palate: Medium body, moderate effervescence.
Flav.: Much more stark than the nose, quite resinous, a bit floral, fairly earthy, not nearly as friendly, dry, earthy malts, a little burnt sugar, quite different from nose; dry with strong bitterness and a stark, earthy, stern finish.
Holy bipolar brew, Batman!
3.5On tap at the Louisville brewpub. Pours a light clear amber with a nice light foamy head from the draught. Nose is fresh hops, citrusy with a bit of light pine. Sweet but mild malt. Light and refreshing.
2.1Dark amber color. Strong flavor beyond hops. Make this one into an OPA and it might be ok.
3.2Dark burnt orange/ amber color with very little white head. Sweet hops and malts with not a lot of hop flavor
3.1Pours a burnt orange color with a small off-white head. Aroma of sweet malts and citrus hops. Flavor of citrus and pine hops with some light pale malt.
3.4Caramel-amber with fair, creamy, tan head / Mild, lightly skunky and earthy nose of cream, caramel, and citrus / Medium body, a touch watery and genuinely soapy, low fruit but with good balance and bitter finish / Modest flavors of caramel, dry hops, grapefruit, and soap / Somebody was sleep-walking through this batch.
3.2Cloudy amber color. Fresh hops and slightly bread nose. Earthy hops with citrus. Bready in the middle. Malt on the finish with bitter aftertaste.
3.6Weak aroma with a beautiful cloudy orange/light brown color. Taste is good with slight bitterness at the end. Mouthfeel is smooth. Little head and lacing. Good beer great value
2.7Pours a murky amber with little head. Aroma is barley, floral notes, and copper. Taste is metallic, bitter, lightly sweet and subpar.
2.5this is not a hophead dream. It is a sadistic fuckheads dream. Shit this is worthless, aspirin tasting shitty malts. I’m thinking this beer is way past its prime. No hop aroma or flavor at all. Malts tasted very stale.
3.0Clear medium amber, head coating, tiny dots of lace. Decent American Ale, with all that implies: caramel malt and mild hops share the ride straight through the finish. A little carbonation completes the taste. Nothing wrong here.
3.2Bottle. Sweet caramel malt and floral citrusy hops aroma. Hazy golden amber with a ginormous soapy off-white head, which took forever to recede. Sediment suspended throughout. Light malt and piney citrus hops. Medium body, slightly dry finish. Very hops forward. Personally, I would have enjoyed it more with some additional malt to balance the hops.
3.7This has a nice level of hoppiness to it all around, both in aroma and in taste. Pours amber with a moderate head, it has the crispness of some good APAs.
3.8Originally reviewed: 12/5/09. Bottle received from bamadog in a recent trade (BA). Huge thanks!
Pours a very dark copper color with a good inch’s worth of ivory head on top. Decent retention, left tons of sticky lace all over the glass. Dull earthy scents come out, along with some roasted pale malts.
Full-bodied PA here. Carbonation level is moderate, this beer goes down thick. Dull bitter hops right away. Some mild char on the finish. Sweet balance is lacking a bit. As the site proclaims, this really is a hophead’s dream. Plenty bitter without all the citrus presence. This is straight up hops. I like it. Thanks, Rich, for the awesome opportunity.
3.3Draft. Dark amber pour with a tiny off white head. Citrus scent.Taste is same with a hint of bread.
3.7growler from the tap room. orange/copper color with minimal head and lacing all the way down the glass. great aroma of citrus and grassy/pine hops. the flavor is right down the middle for an american pale ale. long time friend of this beer and base others on this. love this pale ale as a go to beer.
